Going to other churches, religion after being a Dub???

so, ever since i was a little kid, i always wondered about other faiths.

because i was born and raised a dub, only went inside of two other churches in my life for weddings.

as many of you know, i was just df'd at the beginning of this year.

Having a pre-dub life with grandparents who were sincere Christians who actually lived their faith is a big help to me. You guys make me aware of this every day. Despite my rational nature, I think of my grandparents as being in heaven and cannot picture them any other way. It was the way they lived.

I now prefer a liturgical church because I do feel renewed and ready to face life's challenges after the service. If I go to church, I usually go to the Episcopal Church, preferably high church. However, nothing offers me comfort like those gospel songs I used to hear in childhood.

I still believe it is important for children to be taken to religious services. It is the only way they have a foundation to make a choice for themselves when they are older.

freeminds.org - it's the one I recommend to everyone who is interested in helping JW family members because it has links to all kinds of other sites with the info it lacks.

Would You Be Disturbed If A Casino Opened Up In Your Area???

in massachusetts, the governor unveiled a casino proposal yesterday.

some are very much for it: others are solidly against it.. would you be against having a casino in your state?

I live in Nevada, so I'd have to leave the state if I were bothered by the presence of casinos. They're not as much fun as they used to be, especially the showrooms.

renee: You did leave the paradise of Lake Tahoe and make it to Reno, but I was in Vegas! When are you coming back?

The Insight and Wisdom of Warren Jeffs

i don't know how many of you are following the trial of warren jeffs, leader of a mormon splinter sect, who is being prosecuted for arranging and advocating the marriage of young girls (14 years old and thereabouts) to much older men, with the parents' cooperation, of course.. one of these victims testified that she was made to listen to recorded sermons by this guy pretty much throughout the day.. cnn helpfully provided a snippet of one of his recordings:.

i am providing a transcript of the last bit, it's a howler, but it also sounds a little familiar.

Maybe Jeffs changed the story to make Chuck Berry a homosexual because of this part of Berry's checkered past (from Wikipedia):

In December 1959, after scoring a string of hit songs and while touring often, Berry had legal problems after he invited a 14-year-old Apache waitress whom he met in Mexico to work as a hat check girl at Berry's Club Bandstand, his nightclub in St. Louis. After being fired from the club, the girl was arrested on a prostitution charge and Berry was arrested under the Mann Act. Berry was convicted, fined $5,000, and sentenced to five years in prison.

Hypocrisy in expectations???

ok, i am not very experienced in the field of females.. recently, my mother and i were talking about courting, and other stuff like that.. a sister recently stopped courting a brother because "he was ready to get married too soon".. i understand rushing into things can get you into trouble.. however, the sister had said (after the first date) "this is the one i want to marry".. so, my question is why the hypocrisy??.

she was saying he was the one after 1 date; he was - after a month.. she broke it off because he was too quick?!

this isn't the first time something like this has happened.. i can come up with at least 3 or 4 other relationships where the female has ended it because of the male being too eager.. yet in each circumstance the female was quicker than the male to jump to conclusions.. .

JH is right. The chemistry can be there, but that's only the beginning. Saying that you know this is the person you are going to marry is one thing. To actually marry that person in haste is quite another. If I understood correctly, she only made a remark but did not state that she wanted to actually go through with marriage right away.

It's as if I am driving down the street and say "I want to own that house one day." I mean it when I say it, but maybe I don't have the money, or maybe when I see the inside of the house I will find it less appealing than it was from the outside.

It is best to have a courtship of at least a year and a half, or at least to have known each other that long, before getting married.

Another good argument for not trying to get a woman to commit very quickly is that abusers do that.

Do you really want to save us?

this is for the christians.. let's put our swords away.. try to convince those of us that have lost our faith to accept jesus christ and all that that acceptance entails.. pretend that our lives( eternal) depend on it.. that's what you believe isn't it?.

this is an opportunity to win souls for christ.. yes.

As a person who was not brought up from birth as a JW, I think my perspective is a bit different. My grandparents were right wing fundamentalist Christians who actually lived what they believed every day. Unlike most people I know, my earliest experience with people of faith was positive. I think that experience laid the groundwork for the JW's with their glib know-it-all approach to ensnare me.

After I realized what a sham I had bought into and personally experienced the twisted "value system" of the so-called "elders," I was out. Then, when I married my second husband, I became an Episcopalian. Episcopalians are not evangelical and are very open to ideas and questioning. There is no insistence that there is only "one true church" and a person's salvation is between that person and God.

It's up to you to save yourself, buddy, to "work out your own salvation" as it says in scripture somewhere. Now we could open a new debate on what it means to be "saved."

Letter that my DFed wife received from her Pioneer Mother

we have been dfed for almost 3.5yrs and have been trying to get back in for 2 yrs and we are getting the runaround.. anyway..... here is the letter my pregnant wife received from her elderess pioneer mother.. .

dear mary,.

i am writing to ask you please do not try to talk to me until you are reinstated.

You folks really need a support system. Maybe your wife could ask her gynecologist about a pregnancy support group she could attend. This cruel rejection on the part of her own mother can't be conducive to a healthy pregnancy. Your unborn child does not need this stress either. Please go to counseling and get the help you need.

I am Frustrated beyond belief~/Please read!

just had a conversation with my mom about 13 million spent on defending and losing court cases by the society.. i argued that they can't argue against the catholics when they themselves are guilty of the same.. she replied she didn't care.

(after sending them $100,000.00 dollars) she stated that the catholic church had spent billions defending them selves and if the jw's had only spent millions .

that the society had spent billions sending a message, and if i didn't like their message then leave her alone and the rest of the group.. i am burning with rage......i was accused of trying to destroy her beliefs, and if i was not in agreement to reject the entire religion........which of course i have already done many moons ago.. r..

At least your mother still speaks to you. From a past post, you seem to have a fairly relaxed relationship, given that she is a hardcore dub.

It is impossible to change someone else. The only attitude you get to be in charge of is your own. It's hard, but best to let it go.

Here's my prescription: Take a relaxing aromatherapy bath, light some candles, put on some calming music, pour yourself a glass of good wine, and enjoy. Just remember not to drown in the bathtub.

Welcome, angeleyes. As someone else pointed out, it seems that you need to make friends with people who like you for the individual you are, not because you are blindly loyal to an organization. Counseling or group therapy could be useful as well.

For now, why not leave off being scared that you will die at Armageddon and just take each day as it comes? I was expecting Armageddon to come by 1975, and here I am more than 30 years later. Guess what! If Armageddon did come in or around 1975, I survived. You will, too.

Keep coming back. You need the support offered here. Live in the present and enjoy this day that you have, okay?
