In the big scheme of things, Jesus'....
by SixofNine in...suffering was not so bad.
his "perfection" and understanding of the situation would certainly have mitigated his suffering.. his death was not really death, not in any meaningful sense.
it was a 15 second nap, using bible reasoning.

Failed predictions
by joelbear inwhen all this happened last tuesday i predicted the market would fall 600 to 1000 points and that gold and oil would go way up in price.. well, i got 1 out of 3 right.
batting .333. i sure wouldn't want to try to make a living on being able to predict stuff right.. just posting this to show that even a dummy like me can get things right once in a while, but that the intricacies of life are too complex for anyone to get everything or even a high percentage of things right.
live life.. hugs.

See what happens when you try and make sense of the bible?
Troubled: You say that you see the many things that are wrong with the WTBTS. You say ...
However, I do not believe it is a perfect religion, that we have a grasp on absolute knowledge, or that the GB has never made errors. In fact, I have my own personal struggle in certain areas of our religion, which I am trying to weigh, evaluate, research, and come to grips with.
The weird thing is I've heard several other JWs say the same things. yet the 'struggle' all the while staying deeply entrenched in the bowels of the religion! How can you possible hope to comes to an understanding if you stay in their 'control'. And yes, the 5 meetings a week + FS + study = control. How can you possible hope to formulate YOU OWN opinions or thoughts on a matter when you feed so much from an obviously biased source of information? I just don't get it. You say there are problems, but you (and many others) won't step aside for awhile and think for yourself.
It's always 'where will we go?' 'No one else teaches the truth about the bible'. Trust me, all religions think they have the 'truth' and can prove it with scriptures. If you were as deep into one of them you would be saying the same thing - but about Mormon/Cathlic/Baptist/Muslem/Budda/Whatever. Do you really think that if god has some 'organization' through which he dispensed 'truth' it would be so f*cked up? Come on get real!
Truth - organ transplant = canabilism. Oops, no it doesn't.
Truth - no scream during rape = fornication. Oops, no it doesn't. Oops yes it does. No it doesn't. Yes it does ... ... ..
Truth - all blood = death. Oops, some blood factions OK. Recirculated blood OK.
Truth - Oral sex = fornication. Oops, no it doesn't.
Truth - 1879 second coming of Jesus, 1914 Armageddon. Oops, 1914 was second coming.Should I go on? It could go on for days. We won't mention 1925/1975/generation/end of century/etc.
Why oh why do so many get sucked in because a) nice people, b) hope of earthly life? There are others how beleive in life on earth if that's appealing to you. There are nice people all over the world too.
Start thinking for yourself, which means stop sucking on the teat of 5 meeting a week plus all the rest of the junk associated that keeps JWs running about like chickens w/ their heads cut off, no time to think!

Why Don't They Just Come Clean?
by ballistic ini'm sure that many of us exes are angry with the watchtower because you feel like you've been lied to.. for years you are told to believe in them implicitly, not to question, not to look else where for answers.. i think the governing body would gain a lot more respect and credibility if they simply came clean and stated the truth, i.e.
look guys, we get things wrong, we've changed our beliefs time and time again, and we expect that some of what we believe now to be incorrect.. keeping up this charade of being inspired by god into this century is going to give them more problems than ever.
several threads on this site have allready predicted certain doctrinal changes and these are rapidly becoming over-due.

Teirce: There are benefits for the top men, though not really measured in in the you'd think. They are not totally 'living the life of luxury' that they probably could, but on the other hand, they are very well cared for. I.E. when traveling, it's done first class. When dining, it's done first class. And I dare say the new retirement community, oops, house of education in Patterson is a pretty nice place to live your remaining years of life.
However, I think it's more about POWER and CONTROL than money. It's just that money is a perfect tool to have to ensure that that power and control remains yours. Nothing like having your own slaves who jump at your every command now is there? Nothing like being treated as gods on earth by hundreds of humans daily is there?

babyboo: I'll just echo the comments above. You have suffered a great deal, and the fact is that religion has nothing to do with it.(edit: thinking about it, maybe it would be more fair to say "has little to do with it") The fact that your parents/step-brother sound like horrible people does have everything to do with it. Yes there are good people who are JWs. And there are some very bad people who are JWs. The same is true of all other religions (and of people not in religions).
It is hard to divorce your feelings from the JW religion - trust me I know. I was raised in it too. And steping back from it is very difficult at first. But what you need right now is NOT help from JWs, you need professional counselling and help. JWs are NOT trained to deal with the things you have gone through.
You are in an emotional place right now where you should not be adding to your burdens by dealing with a cult like religion. You own it to yourself to step away and deal with yourself for while. Later in life when you are better equiped to handling it, and are still drawn to the JW religion, do some frank investigation of the religion, but PLEASE do so by you OWN reseach - don't rely on the JWs to 'study' with you. You need to see both sides to the picture.
Also, please visit ...
It might help you a great deal to learn that you are BY NO MEANS alone in your plight. Sadly many others are going through the same things.

``Quality Time'' in Field Service: Fact or Fiction
by Room 215 inbased on comments in various threads, it seems that many of you are acquainted with the various ``dodges'' jws use to strech out their field service time: foot-dragging, driving around on return visits from one far-flung end of the territory to the other, the skilful avoidance of contact with housholders, coffee breaks, etc.
etc.. do you have any impression of how pervasive these time-wasting such practices are, and what proportion of the time reported by jws is actually bogus and not spent productively?
or, put another way, how rare is is to encounter who just loves to go out and who uses his/her time efficiently from beginning to end?.

Ha ha, this is hilarious. Nothing changes. My years of pioneering were spent driving from one end of our territory to the other (and we were lucky to have a HUGE territory - about a hour from end to end). Of course, you HAD TO stop and leave a mag/tract w/ someone in town to 'start' your time. Those were the rules you know. Or better yet, some of the pioneers would call a 'study' in the early morning, then get ready/dressed/etc for the FS meeting, all the while counting the entire time since they had 'started' w/ the call. Leave it to the pioneers to 'take the lead' in inventing ways to count time! Loved those 10-12 hour days in late summer trying to make up the year's time...

Already the WT PR machine swings into full gear trying to make themselves smell nice. But they can't hid from the info that was learned in the first day or 2 following the disaster - even their PR video reveals that no movement was made (at least immediately) to reach out to non-JWs.

Those are powerful words. Something to think about.
I do think that the general American idea of 'going in and teaching them a lesson' at most = the Gulf War, which doesn't seem much like a real war anyway (I'm not making light of the many that died there, just pointing out that to the Americans, the cost and losses were light - it was not a long and drawn out affair). And most Americans think we can just drop some bombs and do the job. I really don't think many realize what it would really take to 'do the job'. And even after that 'job' was done, what mess would remain behind.
There are no easy answers.

OVERFLOW KH MEETING TONITE!
by MadApostate ini just drove by the local kh on my way home, and the parking lot was overflowing, almost like at the memorial.
there were probably 50% more autos than are normaly at the average ms/sm.. is this just a local "phenomenon"?
anyone else here live near a kh?

Why would it be surprising that people of faith would go to their places of worship for consolation in this horrible horrible time. I am sure that all churches were packed to overflowing at their meetings this week.
That's not surprising at all. However, this is (well, it isn't but it SHOULD be)...
Unfortunately, the Service Meeting speaker told the cong. to use the tragedy to place more mags and go out in service more.
There's hope for some of them ...
I was encouraged to see many Witnesses in the congregation truly hurt by what had happened in NYC and Arlington.
But you can better beleive that in KHs all accross the country the above was true about 'useing' this to sell more mags. I bet lit sales go through the roof for awhile. THAT's the sad part. And this finally is the worst ...
No mention was made of relief efforts.
Typical. Bethel's OK, they got their sidewalks clean, no need for alarm! Now get out there and sell mags!

Joel, you would have been a breath of fresh air to me then. In all my years and many congs, I rarely ran accross people like you. The majority I knew 1) Hated/disliked FS - saw it as a collosal waste of time/money (myself included) 2) Were what I called 'Nazi' witnesses - you know, had to hit that door right next to the KH to start time, wouldn't stop for a coffee break, knocked 4 times at each door or poked around in back yards, etc. 3) or, those who just put in the time 'cause they thought it was the right thing to do.
I don't think most people here think the 6 million JWs are the 'enemies'. I know I certainly don't hate or even dislike my family! But we do feel sad that they are being dupped into what's best a huge waste of time, and at worst slowly destroying their sanity trying to deal with this insane religion. Not to mention that the JW has sucked away the best years of their life and gives NOTHING in return other than a hope that must get fainter and fainter as time goes by.
I find it sad.
