  i was married with 2 small children (an adult) when someone came to my door.

  i can't figure out how i ever got invoved !!!

  i can completely see how one can be easily brainwashed being a child and raised as a witness, but i'm angry at myself more than the organization that i was so easily duped... i feel i lost 9 years of my life and missed out on so much for being stupid.

  I feel exactly the same way as you do.
  I wasn't raised as a JW either but I fell for their teachings when they came to my door.
  I also regret deeply what I put my kids through with the org.
  The WTS certainly is good at manipulating people and circimstances.
  
  Don't think you fell for the WTS lies because you were stupid though.
  As was already brought out, some verry inteligent people were also duped.
  I think many people have gotten involved with the WTS because they wanted to believe
  the things they were taught.
  It all sounded so easy. Black and white.
  We didn't have to think for ourselves.
  All we had to do to please God was do as the WTS said.
  It was all done for us. All we had to do was follow.

  Plus the fact that we had no way of checking the WTS out.
  Computers weren't available to everyone when I became involved with them.
  I don't think there was much written info. on the WTS either.

  So I think it was much easier for the WTS to recrute new members from all walks of life
  up until a few years ago.
  Now we have the computer as well as books written by people that were involved with
  the WTS first hand.

  So don't beat yourself up to badly because of the WTS.
  We can't change the past but we can control our future.

  i first posted to this board as "truman" about 2 months ago.

  it was a time of deep depression, confusion, fear, and paranoia for me, as i had just 3 weeks before discovered that everything i had believed for 27 years was only a pipe dream.. everyone was very welcoming, but after only a few posts, i got so afraid i had to stop.

  i was fearful of revealing too much, being somehow discovered, and of the possibility of saying the wrong thing, incurring the ire of my betters here.

  Welcome to the board.
  You've summed up how many of us felt when we discovered that the WTS was not
  what they claimed to be.
  It's hard admitting to ourselves that we've been duped into believing that the WTS
  was Gods chosen org.
  Their record of failed prophecies and changes in thier teachings is enough to show that
  God is NOT backing them.

  As far as field service and meetings,I felt the same way.
  I hated having to give a talk because I would get stage fright.
  I also dreaded field service. I always hoped no one was home when I knocked on
  thier doors.

  But we don't have to be bashful here. (No one can see us)

  DECEPTIVE JW ELDERS - CASE#2

  deceptive jw elders case#2 .

  appointing spiritually qualified men to take the lead and serve as elders and overseers has been a feature of watch tower congregational organization since about 1972. jws were told in talks at conventions, in literature, and finally in the two versions of the organization book that the biblical criteria is used when elders meet to consider some men for appointment as an elder.

  jws are also told that these qualified men are already appointed first by holy spirit, and then as the congregation is lead by that spirit to recognize them, the elders meeting is a confirmation of what god has done.

  Reducing Stress

  on the lighter side of mental health issues, i was curious as to some good ideas you all had regarding the methods you use to reduce stress.

  i will give two of my favorites and hope that several of you would provide one or two others and then come back in a day or two if others miss a favorite of yours.. .

  two of my favorites are humor and music.

  I have to agree with you that comedy is one of the best ways to
  relieve stress.
  Another one would be excercising.

  i think i remember reading somewhere here about how some poor df'd sister's car broke down on the way home from a meeting once and none of the brothers would stop to help.

  it made somebody ashamed, as well it should have!.

  I remember when I was just studying to become a JW,
  that there was a df'd person attending the meetings
  trying to get reinstated.
  One night his car broke down.
  Well as you know the "brothers" would not give this person
  a ride home as that would be going against the rules.

  But because I was not yet baptised, I was allowed to give him a ride.
  I got dirty looks for doing it though.
  
  Talk about being legalistic.
  Wasn't that one of the things Jesus put the Pharrasies down about?
  Being legalistic?

  Oh yes. The "brothers"and "sisters" really know how to be true Christians.
  Don't they?
