Nature seems to favor a central tendency. Since survival requires a variety of strategies it is usually the "average" organism that survives. Too much interest in sex may carry recklessness and impulsivity as associated tendencies. Carrying an adequate repertoire of strategies in an adequate amount is a better strategy than specializing by becoming too tall, too agressive, too smart, too creative, too sexual etc.

Help me out here, I'm having an argument
by ballistic inwhat i'm debating is this.... and creationist probably wont be able to help.
reproduction is the driving forve of evolution, so why does evolution not simply favour the genes of those that reproduce the most...i.e.
not the most fit, intelligent, etc.. and if this is the case, why does the world not fill up with rampant nyphomaniacs?

Congrats to Silent Lambs
by proplog2 inalthough i don't agree with your general motives you have accomplished some good.
it appears the watchtower has altered its official policy judging from the reports on the recent elder seminar.. allowing serial cases to be counted as two or more witnesses is similar to the exception courts make in child abuse cases.
ordinariily a jury is not to consider evidence from one case as bearing on another case but this is allowed in the case of child abuse.. i never expected them to fold this easily.

My post was an acknowledgement of "some" good accomplished by Silent Lambs. When the dust settles JW's will adapt to whatever situation exists. I think the Watchtower is arrogant. But I think the child molestation issue is over-blown. To portray the Watchtower organization as dangerous to children is rediculous.
You have to punish terrorists. But you don't prevent terrorism by locking up terrorists. You ought to punish child molesters but you don't prevent child molestation punishing molesters. The only way to protect your children is by using the utmost vigilance. Never leave children alone with other adults. Don't let your kids play with older sibs - alone. Make sure you really know your mate's mental condition. And above all don't be so damn materialistic - quit that job and watch your own kids.

Hawk:
The veracity of testimony is not determined by social workers or police. This determination is made by a court. Police and social workers just provide what are generally considered "professional opinions". The testimony is considered "professional" because of occupational certification but it is not necessarily "true". There are serious problems with some of the techniques that are used to elicit testimony from children.
Because of the 1980's hysteria over molestation the law is weighted against those who are accused of being molesters. The law is not perfect. That's why some of the best attorneys won't even get involved in defending an accused molester - they want to have a fair chance at winning.
The Michael Jackson incident is a good example. He could have won his case but fortunately had enough money to make his predatory accusers satisfied.

Although I don't agree with your general motives you HAVE accomplished some good. It appears the Watchtower HAS altered its official policy judging from the reports on the recent Elder seminar.

I never expected them to fold this easily. Apparently they really are scared!
Nevertheless I maintain that your portrayal of the Watchtower society as a hot-bed of child abuse is inaccurate and born of hostilities you have for your local elder buddies.

The Bible teaches Jesus is Jehovah?
by Rev BII injohn 8:58 is a bit lame to use as trinitarian argument.
jesus was before adam and he tells the pharisees that he's god's son.. that's what makes them mad *lol* .
you must face that they exist together too;.

There is no evidence God ever spoke through anyone. That's why whatever picture of God emerges from the confusion of the Bible is bound to be a hodge podge of misconceptions.

Boring Meetings are Intentional, Folks!
by metatron inlong, boring, repetitive meetings are intentional.
an accident.
ever experiment with autohypnosis or autosuggestion?

More bull-dropings from the imagination of metatron. Glad to see others here have noted this. Boring meetings are not intentional. They are a consequence of the exit of creative minds. The decrease in attendance is not desireable to the organization. I imagine the same thing happened 4 generations after Jesus started his movement. After it became evident that Jesus hadn't come back the more creative minds drifted. The result finally ended up the ultimate boredom - repetitive mass. They were so lacking in creative adaptability they didn't even notice that eventually they were repeating the mass in a dead language - latin. Talk about sleep!!!

I remember studying with an "atheist" on a college campus back in the mid '60s. The guy was raised an atheist. He agreed to study but only in a discussion format that didn't allow JW literature. We argued several times per week for about 8 months. I tried every proof of God I could think of. I finally worked the demon angle. Spiritism was popular on college campuses during the "dawning of the Aquarian Age". Sometimes the student lounge was full of people working Ouija boards. I suggested to my bible student that if the demons exist then God could exist also. He reported back to me that whenever he entered a room where Ouija boards were being used everyone would complain and ask him to leave because their boards wouldn't function.
My bible student became a JW. He was in for 30 years but is now disassociated.
One more anomaly for the heap.

Good News - Alternative Energies
by Amazing ingood news alternative energy .
while on the subject, we could already start to reduce and eventually eliminate oil, at least to the point where we would only need to use our own resources and may buy oil from mexico and russia.. solar: while seemingly forgotten, this is still a growing industry.
solar assist panels for homes are still selling.

Bush should have declared War on OIL instead of on terrorism. If the US told the Mid East that we wouldn't buy any more of their oil they would quickly bring their terrorist out of hiding and execute them.

League of Nations-Help
by proplog2 ini used to have some information in my archives about how the watchtower once believed the world court was the wild beast and that it went into the abyss in 1914 later to come out as the league of nations.
this is important because it is an example of the techncique jw's use of sliding an interpretation around til it seems to fit.. i know they currently believe the league when into the abyss and came out as the united nations.. i am interested in the earlier interpretation.. it may have been on prominent bethelites "the list", but i can't seem to access that site.. thanks for any help.
