Would you buy a white car?
by JH in.
many years ago, there were many white cars around, but since 10 years around here, maybe 1% of cars are white.
and most of them are old cars.. i don't know if this is just a local thing, but you just don't see white cars anymore in most new car dealer parking lots.. for some reason, i still like white and haven't had one in years, and i do change car often, and was wondering if white is "out" and old fashioned now a days..... i think that there are many white cars where the climate is hot, but up here in canada, it ain't so..

that is, if you are able to without the prospect of facing a three-man kangaroo court appointed by jerhover to keep the congregation clean from apostate influences.. i'll go first: .

Not elderette material though huh????
Not sure if I'd say that. In your one picture, you do have the elder "stare" down pretty good.

Angus Young on the song Back in Black - I know, i know - you've heard it a million times, but Angus's playing on that song is brilliant
I'm not a huge AC/DC fan but his opening solo on Thunderstuck is probably the most amazing playing I've ever seen and heard. How the heck does that guy play and bounce around the stage like that??????

JonBenet Ramsey's Mother Dies
by Mary in.
i was really shocked to see this headline this morning....patsy ramsey died this morning at the age of 49 of ovarian cancer....i always wondered what happened there; whether she and her husband actually killed their daughter, or if someone else broke into the house and murdered her.......while family members are always high on the list of suspects when something like this happens, i tend to think that john and patsy ramsey were falsely accused of murdering their daughter, as there appeared to be no motive.
anyone think they did kill her?

It's been a while since I last read bout the case but I do recall a few things that made me wonder, like hadn't it snowed the night before the murder but there weren't any foot prints outside the basement window where the supposed killer came through. Also, wasn't there something about how the window was broken, like it may have been broken from the inside not the outside. And also the fact that she was found in the basement of their home, wouldn't an intruder kidnap her? That seems to be the M.O. of almost all pediophiles cases that I've seen in the news. I always wondered if the mom (or dad) killed her in a fit of rage and half-hazardly hid the body in the first place they could think of - the basement.

I'm really ticked right now!!!
by sammielee24 insituation ugly.
long story short - adult children have refused contact with df'd father for a few years.
(except for the initial obligatory hate letter full of references to satan and some disgusting name calling).

I would tend to ignore them completely, sammielee.
Speaking from experience, I would agree with Luna. When I da'd myself, it soon became clear that my family would enforce the JW cult rules to the extreme. Since they wouldn't talk to me, I simply dropped each one a note. In it I told them I loved them dearly, will miss them but will honor their request and not contact them. Years went by and they did indeed have nothing to do with me. What shocked me the most was something that happened years later at my father's funeral. I spoke with my mother and made sure that everything she needed was taken care of (fixing stuff around the house, any auto repairs, etc.). My brother was there "standing guard" next to her - suddenly he broke down and began crying. He was sobbing, babbling on about how much he misses me. Sadly though, I had already "grieved" the loss of my JW family. There was nothing there anymore, the bond of two brothers was gone. I don't know if he was simply reacting to the emotions of the day (that's what I personally believe) or if he really missed me or perhaps he felt a little bit of guilt knowing that he/they have really treated me like shit. Whatever the case, I have peace of mind knowing that I did the right thing by sending them a note wishing them well.

Being an elder, about power not faith.
by free2beme inpower is an amazing thing.
when you realize you have control over others and people repeat things you say, as authority, that is a feeling that is hard to bottle.
personally, i have served in positions of power at several stages in my life.

and to make matters worse, most amount to little or nothing in the non-JW world. So the KH becomes their little kingdom where they get off on "proving" that they are someone important.

The Devil couldn't have done a better job, assuming God inspired the Bible
by Spectrum inif you were a mean spirited, nasty supernatural being that wanted to reek havok on human civilisation how would you go about doing it?
inspire people to write several versions of a book, call it holy, then get people to slavishly follow the version that they prefer and die for it when they come in contact with a different version.
could a kind, all powerful, gracious god have ever inspired such a book.

God -our loving creator - inspired the Bible and gave us guidelines for a good life, salvation for when we mess up.
But wouldn't you think that God, knowing everything that there is to know about mankind, would have done a much better job inspiring the writers of the Bible?

Guantanamo Bay Suicides - a PR Move
by eyeslice inquote from bbc website .
a top us official has described the suicides of three detainees at the us base at guantanamo bay, cuba, as a "good pr move to draw attention".
colleen graffy told the bbc the deaths were part of a strategy and "a tactic to further the jihadi cause", but taking their own lives was unnecessary.

Make a post about people being illegally detailed without trial and it's all "hey, who needs trials? we think they are guilty so they are".
I have to admit, what kind of useful information do we expect to get out of people imprisoned for over 4 years.

Do you leave your air conditioning on during the day? I turn mine off completely - it doesn't take that long to cool things down when I get home from work.
Few years ago I installed a programable thermostat, literally took 10 minutes to install and another 5 to program. It cut my heating and airconditioning bill by 25 - 30%. You'd be amazed how much you can save because you never "forget" to turn down the heat or turn off the air when you're not home. Even better yet, is the house is at a perfect temp. when we get up in the morning or when when get home from work & school. Most units cost $25.00 - $40.00. One of the best investments you can make.
Another thing to do that most people neglect is getting your AC unit serviced. Might cost you a hundred bucks every couple of years but you'll save money on your AC bill.

Is the average American afraid of the return of its troops?
by Gill inis the ordinary american, afraid of the return of their service men from iraq?
without a doubt, these young men have been traumatised by everything they have done, or seen done.
how damaged are they now?

If WE went to Iraq to save them from Sadam....why haven't we gone to Zimbabwe to save them from their evil leader. What about Ethiopia, the Congo etc. What ingredient do these countries lack......Oil for the UK and the USA by any chance?
Duh. Has it really been any differnt? Every war is for control of resources (to a greater or lesser degree) - either keeping control of your own or taking control of youe neighbor's. Freedom from the British, preserving the Union, stopping Hitler's extermination of the Jews, etc. were all secondary. Hell, look at what the U.S. and Europe did when millions of Rwadians were wiped out - nothing. Look what the U.S. & Europe is doing to stop the genocide in Darfur, nothing. Even though 400,000 have been killed and millions chased from their homes.
I can't believe that I'm about to say this but I almost wish we has Clinton in office because the public wouldn't have allowed him to get away with the mess we now have in Iraq. I don't understand why we have allowed Bush's poor planning and an even worse execution go without much critizisim. Smartest thing Clinton every did - never put ground troops in Serbia. Blew the hell out of them from the sky but never had the political fallout from seeing body bags of our young men and women coming home.
The man was a genius.
