If members of the congregation are known to have undue association with disfellowshipped or disassociated relatives who are not in the household elders should counsel and reason with those members of the congregation from the Scriptures. Review with them information from the "God's Love" book, pages 207-208; The Watchtower of April 15, 1988, pages 26-30; or the article "Display Christian Loyalty When a Relative Is Disfellowshipped" in the August 2002 Our Kingdom Ministry. If it is clear that a Christian is violating the spirit of the disfellowshipping decree in this regard and does not respond to counsel, it may be that he would not qualify for congregation privileges, which require one to be exemplary. He would not be dealt with judicially unless there is persistent spiritual association or he openly criticizes the disfellowshipping decision.

so sickly in fact i don't know how she's holding on.

I would assume that visiting and helping out an ailing parent would qualify as Necessary Family Business™, especially since the Congregation™ almost never steps in to do it, insisting that this role is the family's job, not theirs.

On the other hand, perhaps the shunning of the DFd children has created a rift that is beyond repair. It might be a good idea to get their input in case they want nothing to do with parents who put their belief system ahead of family.

the difficulty of finding a marriage mate is well known for sisters.

but i would say it's hard for brothers also.

Perhaps your JW "friend" should take a trip to the Philippines or Japan and meet some Sisters™ there. I understand the women are petite, attractive, and really dig Submissiveness™. /sarcasm

PS Your friend is an asshole and I wouldn't wish him on anyone, not even a dog.

We all know from personal experience as JWs that attempts to "educate" active JWs is likely fruitless in 99.9% of cases. The WTS admonishes JWs to pay no heed to unsolicited Apostate™ material, to just toss it out or delete it. They also advocate the idea that unsolicited Apostate™ material is a form of Persecution™, validation that their beliefs are The Truth™.

Why anyone would want to feed those delusions and further entrench someone in the JW belief system is beyond me.

I'm of the opinion that if you are going to stir up a hornets' nest, you have to expect you'll get stung.

These tactics almost always fail with JWs because they feed the persecution complex that JWs have had trained into them, and it ends up reinforcing their delusion that they have The Truth™.

Mommy says no Christmas

daughter is 3 now, that's a little less than i've been on this forum.

enough to say that i have a generous amount of visitation with her.. i picked her up and was talking about the lights some of her neighbors had.

It's really hard for a 3 year old to be in the middle when parenting conflicts like this arise. Be prepared for repercussions such as attempts at limiting visitation or finding yourself DFd and then having your daughter told "no daddy".

I don't want to rain on your parade, but it can be very confusing for your daughter. Obedience to her mom and her mom's belief are very often co-mingled with love for her mom, and she may feel that by observing Christmas with you that she is going to make her mom (and Jehovah) sad, because that's how we were trained to teach our children about Christmas and birthdays when we were JWs.

I've mentioned the following podcast a couple of times before, it's regarding raising children in a mixed (religious and secular) family. The guest on the show is Dale McGowan who's written a book called Parenting Beyond Belief, which I think is a must-read for anyone who has left the JWs but has a spouse or ex-spouse who remains in the JWs and wants to co-parent effectively. He also runs a website and has written books dedicated to raising children so that they know how to think rather than what to think.

it seems like the list of people who are accusing him of rape and sexual assault is growing every day.

i'm skeptical of single accusations but the number of people and the similar stories seem overwhelming now.. it's not a conviction but to the court of public opinion ... guilty?.

It's very likely that each woman was intimidated into silence - the old "do you really think they're going to believe you? or Dr Huxtable?" and I'm sure his lawyer can be very intimidating if an alleged victim even *thought* about pressing charges. Maybe the victims believed their experiences were anomalies and not part of a predatory pattern of behaviour.

How many women who were sexually abused by Elders™ or Ministerial Servants™ questioned their experiences? It's easy to believe that you are the only person this happened to, that nobody is going to believe you if you say anything or try to stop it. Or worse, blame you somehow for "seducing" a beloved man who is Appointed By Holy Spirit™ - who's going believe you making such allegations against *him*?? A victim is made to feel shame and embarrassment, they are intimidated into silence, and they feel utterly ALONE. Alone, that is, until they realize that they were not alone. That validation, in itself, is liberating. It is reassurance that you aren't crazy, you didn't imagine it, you are NOT lying about what happened, and that it isn't your fault - you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, in the path of a predator in the act of predation.

I'm glad these women are coming forward. They deserve justice, even if it means taking down a once beloved public figure. If he is guilty of the allegations, he doesn't deserve to be a beloved public figure. He deserves public ridicule and jail time if he is guilty. Zero tolerance.
