i've been browsing the site for some time as things that the society teach just are not adding up much these days.

by exploring some of the threads on here i'm starting to see why.

Welcome! So a few quick things. First.....take it easy. Don't overwhelm yourself, but study as much as you can. People on this board believe a variety of things, and that is OK! Your personal views one way or another, are your own. We can discuss them, challenge them, evolve with them.....but NOTHING is off the table.

You can call it Christian freedom, you can call it the right to think......but you are able to research ANYTHING and ask ANYTHING.

Big difference from how we grew up, without even realizing it.

If you haven't gone to JWfacts.com try to do so. Everything there is verifyable. No "apostate lies" to make you scared of the boogyman.

As far as the paranoia of spyware, or modem spying.....while technically I am sure it is possible, I do not think it is plausible. Nobody in your hall probably even has the accument to pull off such a thing. Don't worry about it.

BUT.....the fact you ARE worried about should tell you something.....right? :)

My mother listed me as a Jehovah's Witness at the Hospital for a pending emergency surgery

i've been having some medical issues recently and had to check into the emgerceny hospital.

when they admitted me the registar asked my mother my religion.

she told them jehovah's witness.

Yeah, have someone take that off your file. It could make them hesitate or do something odd if it came to it. And confront (kindly), your mother about it.

I can see the guys coming in to visit not really being an issue. A person who has no interest in the faith wouldn't put "JW" on their admitence. They have no idea that your mother did this. I would give them a break.

Just tell them it was a misunderstanding, you do nto identify as one of JW's because of ___(Insert open and honest phrase about blood, disfellowshipping, or any other nonsese)____ amongst other things. That should nto be on your file, please remove the card from the chaplain room.

How to prove the Watchtower wrong with their own recent literature (May 15th, 2014)

this is very good, at least it will be in a few years.

sorry if it's been posted here before already.. it's in the watchtower magazine may 15th, 2014, last page: from our archives: they talk about a public speech held in sao paolo in 1923 where they also distributed the brochure "millions who now live will never die" (pictured in the magazine!).

a quick calculation: 1923 -> 2014, how many people in the world now are 90 years old or more?

Even if they acknowledge it was wrong, its just "adjusted thinking", but shows the great zeal those early brothers had blah blah blah.

Everyone old enough to UNDERSTAND what was being said, is certainly dead.

Disfellowshipping in Scientology is called "disconnection", as a quick side point. Damn near identical methods.

as a former elder, i know that there was always friction with the c.o.

(funny.... sounds like "commanding officer, doesn't it?).

anyhow, i do wonder how much 'submission' or toadying many of these "men" can endure now that circuit overseers have been given absolute power.

what happens if someone returns to the congregation but stays inactive?

Each hall is different. And alot depends on what you let these guys get away with.

May I ask for more detail to your question? I'm not sure I fully understand what you are asking.

Sometimes to get the people carrying a torch for my return to think, I ask in the proper context the following question or a variation of it. It usually follows some kind of broad explanation of how I feel.

I basically say that it has gotten to the point where i feel like if I follow the GB, I am going against my conscience, which is a sin (James).

They ask me what it is. i say its several things. Then I ask...

"aren't there things you don't agree with?" The answer is ALWAYS yes.

Then I usually ask if there were any things they could think of where IF they disagreed on something. that would be a "red line" for them.

They usually say something like "well sure if they said we could take blood or celebrate birthdays or should now have sex with chickens.....or some madness.

Then I just say.......lets just say I hit my red line. Then I ask what they don't agree with, and I am off the hook for explaining further.

today i was at the meeting (i go there about once a month now).

in the service meeting they had a part where they interviewed the secretary of the congregation.. so one question was: "why are the service reports so important?".

our secretary explained that the reports are important, because the elders can see, who is spiritually weak.

This is classic.

Like ADCMS, I remember very vividly a talk that spoke about how few Isrealites made it out of jerusalem (less than 10% by some estimations?), and that is will probably be the same with "god's People" when the end comes.

I was like......huh!?
