along the lines of joy's post on friends, i wanted to add my own 2 cents in praise of this board!

to put it all in a nutshell, i learned how to *drink* when i was at bethel, around late 89 to early 93. was disfellowshipped sometime just before thanksgiving 94, and have continued to be a heavy drinker ever since.

about a month & a half ago i discovered this board, and last sunday i quit drinking .

the local paper ran an article today (from cox news service; you may have seen it already) on the religion page, "god, that's funny!

" it's about some bible "experts" testifying that god does, in fact, have a "funny bone.

" in other words, that it's ok to poke fun at religion in general, or even to tell jokes about god.

is this just my misconception, or is the "friends" forum constantly being misused as a place to post anything and everything that someone wants to be "noticed?

Of Anger, Resentment, Crying, & WhatNot

it seems like there has been a lot of talk here about anger, bitterness, resentment of the jdubs, and so on... i've read a few posts where current dubs, or someone in the process of leaving, asks 'why are y'all here, on this site, so many years after you left?

' or 'why all the anger and resentment?

why not let it go & move on with your life?'.

i'm spending the week more or less lounging around my place on vacation, & today's my birthday, so i thought i'd ask all you hopeless apostate types <eg>, what's your take on astrology?

for years i thought this was a ridiculous practice, even after leaving the dubs.

but after reading a book that breaks down which planet was where on which day, and how each "affects" me, i don't feel i can blow it all off as coincidence or as one-size-fits-all doubletalk.

i'll try to keep this concise... this is an issue i never got an answer to, from the elders or any witness, on my way out of the "truth":.

jws believe that god permits evil to answer the "age-old challenge from satan the devil," that man can't rule himself without god, correct?

(please correct me if i'm wrong).

welllllll... this is my first post on this forum =) i've enjoyed some of the paranoiac screaming back&forth on the un thread (hehehe, no, i mean really enjoyed it), but what i'd really like to do is contact any ex-jdubs from the east metairie cong in louisiana; i was there during the late 80s / early 90s... especially phoebe, if you're out there; i know it's a long shot!.
