Philautia definitely wouldn't fit well the WT preaching of 'self-sacrifice', a term not found anywhere in the Bible , though they love it.

The Greeks had a word for it, but the Watchtower didn't
by Nathan Natas ini recall as though it was only 60 years ago, sitting in the kingdom hall on those horrible chairs, learning of the four forms of love: agape, philia, storge and eros.. the watchtower never mentioned pragma.. pragma: this is a committed, compassionate love that often grows as two partners continue to cherish and care for each other.
this type of love is associated with being together for a long time.
in some cases, the passion of eros can grow into pragma over time, this forging a lasting bond.. i think i know why; the watchtower isn't into committed, compassionate, cherishing and caring, are they?.

New light on including people you have rejected for 27 yrsđł
by dinosarentreal incan anyone point me in the direction of articles to read about the ânew lightâ about hanging out with family members who are not believers?
i left when i was 20, i was disfellowshipped for five years, went back to it for family and left again shortly after.
i never got disfellowshipped again so that i could talk to my parents.

Similar experience here, I find it so fake though because they're only making contact because they've been given permission to.

We Donât Give Christmas Presents; We Give Presents To Each Other All Year Long!
by Sea Breeze inhow many of you dutifully told this lie to your friends as a kid?.

I got all those replies too, funny how our parents all had the same response ready??
'We get presents all year round '
Oh yes, new clothes and notebooks and pens for assemblies and conventions.
Why do JWs automatically assume it's all about the presents anyway? That is actually ridiculously shallow reasoning in the first place.
Now that I celebrate Xmas thanks to my ever-so-worldly husband, I get to enjoy seeing my children's excitement and anticipation weeks in advance, we bake and craft and decorate. There is NOTHING in jw land that compares to this, and the family bonding around this time doesn't happen in jw land....at all.
They deprive themselves of their God given children, every step of the way, the kids are sacrificed at Jehovah's altar, over and over again.

Does god punish children for their parents sins?
by moomanchu inezekiel 18: 1-4 , âthe word of the lord came to me: âwhat do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of israel: âthe parents eat sour grapes, and the childrenâs teeth are set on edgeâ?
as surely as i live, declares the sovereign lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in israel.
for everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the childâboth alike belong to me.

I think I could listen to you for hours Kaleb! Do you have a YouTube channel or similar?
I would dearly love to learn more about the Jewish history from a Jewish viewpoint as you seem to do so well.

Watch Tower PA sues Russia in DC district over confiscation of Bethel
by Corney inthe watch tower society of pennsylvania filed a lawsuit on september 3, 2024, naming as defendants the russian federation, the russian ministry of health, and the almazov national medical research center.
unfortunately, i can't access the case documents, including the complaint.
i would appreciate if someone with an active pacer account could make them available.. anyway, it is enough to know the almazov center is one of the entities sued by the wts to say what this case is about.

Why so many cult leaders have weird relationship issues and dysfunctional marriages?
by buzkid inwhy do so many cult leaders have weird relationship issues and dysfunctional marriages?russell coudn't get along with his wife mariah.
rutherford had trouble with his wife and sent her away.. eric wilson says it's o.k.
if you don't get legally married as long as you have a "spiritual marriage" in his latest video response to the situation of people coming forward complaining about the abusive religious tactics his "wife" practices and he condones.. i ask this question in a previous post but it deserves it's own discussion definitely:why is it that so many cult leaders have weird relationship issues and dysfunctional marriages?.

Eric is right in that a legal marriage was never a biblical requirement, that came centuries later.
It isn't a legal requirement anymore today either, a common law marriage is accepted in most western nations, but for inheritance and tax purposes, a legal marriage is still often preferred.
The WT uses the paying Caesar's things back to Caesar as a reason to be legally married but thats taking the verse completely out of context, as it refers to taxation, not marriage. The WT is also REALLY good at only applying this to their r and f but never themselves as an organisation.
In fairness to Eric, he has exposed the WT and Christendom lies re women and their role in first century Christianity, he acknowledges clearly that the scriptures speak of women judges, prophets, apostles, teachers and healers.
Whether Eric and Wendy are legally married or not is nobody's business but their own, same goes for anyone else.

I've recently realised that many of us who left the JWS still carry the belief that the bible has all the answers, if only we interpret it right.
For which we believe we need to pray and ask for holy spirit, in order to understand.
Then arises the scenario, and I see this in all the ex jw groups; Hey, I understand now, because I HAVE hs! If you don't agree/understand like I do then you obv do NOT have hs!
There's a constant them v us thinking.
Yet the Bible is a product of human writing, we're regurgitating and perpetuating the very notions and cultural beliefs that Jesus actively resisted. That's the scholarly and historical conclusion to the life and ministry of Jesus, without any religious interpretation.

I need to vent sorry!
by KerryKing ini couldn't get back to sleep last night, something my father said a few weeks ago popped into my head.. we were talking about obtaining citizenship, he doesn't need it, but was contemplating what benefits it could get him now he's a pensioner.. background : i've been disfellowhipped for 15 years, i was born in, he is an elder, very much pimi, he was also born in.. i said to him how citizenship would be difficult for him as it would require him to swear allegiance to the state?.
oh he said, thats just a crowd of people together in a big room for the swearing in event, it would be easy to just mumble or say nothing, nobody would know.. this has quietly been eating away in my mind, why did it bother me?.
last night it hit me, when i was in my first year of school, age 5, i came out of school one day with a balloon with two little pencils attached, a gift from a classmate who's birthday it was, every child got one.

I didn't know the WT went back on the military service requirement? When did that change?
When I lived in Spain in the 90s I knew men who refused the military and had to do some other public job like library assistant.
