Dinner guest- When you bring wine shouldn't they offer you some?
by Witness 007 ini've gone to many a witness dinner where i would bring one or two nice wines, hoping we would have some with dinner.
{to numb the boring conversations} only, to find the couple say "thanks" put it in the cabnet....and serve up lemonade..... and it's not an alcohol thing....two different brothers brought out there own "home made" vino instead, which taste like a mixture of fruit punch and vineger!

If you have a really good bottle of wine in your hand before you set off to a dinner party, it is advisable to drink it before you leave your house. Then take an average bottle to the dinner party. A couple of miniatures or hip flask secreted about your person as a back up also helps.
Whatever happens after that will not concern you too much. It always works for me. Hic!

Can the holy spirit be a person???
by leaving-jws inmy mom and i got into a debate about the trinity doctrine.
she claims that the holy spirit cannot be a person which invalidates the trinity doctrine.
she says in genesis that the holy spirit was depicted as "roving about the earth" as an "active force".

It all depends what you want to believe. In our imagination anything is possible.

She is trying me to the extreme and to the limit!
by Gill inmy youngest child has always been a very good girl at school.
she has never been any trouble to any one caused any disruption etc.....just a good girl and she is progressing well.
recently her form tutor retired and a new teacher arrived.

It comes down to who is in control of the class. Your daughter or the teacher.
Insolence and lack of discipline in schools is a major factor in deteriorating standards of education.
The teacher already has a job. The only loser in a stand off is your daughter.

Does Someone Have to be Religious to Be a Good Person?
by flipper inthis is something my wife and i were discussing the other day .
in a general view of religious people - most religious people feel it makes them holier, better, or on a higher moral plane claiming to worship god in an organized religion.
in the jehovah's witnesses view - the outside world is evil, and they claim that if you get away from their religion , and " fall away" a person is doomed to go astray, doing various sundry things like murder, adultery, stealing, orgies, because " they claim " that they have fallen " out of " god's favor.

A person is only considered 'good' when they conform to the rules that their society expects them to. So good is a subjective thing. Of course murder and pedeophilia are accepted in most societies as bad but in polite society what is good to one person is bad to another.
Religious people have historically held extreme views that were opposed to the views of secular minded people.
In the eyes of a religious person it is impossible to be good unless one is religious, so the answer to the question is - it depends who is asking the question.

we all come from different backgrounds, walks of life, and had different experiences in growing up as children into adolescence.
so it should suffice to say, that we will all have a variety of takes on various issues that come up on the board.

I was impressed by the way you avoided rising to the bait dangled by Hillary Step. You showed great wisdom for a dolphin. He will try again, it's in his blood.
Many years ago, before time began, I came here in an attempt to come to terms with with 'Losing my religion.' I now realize that it was no loss but the beginning of wisdom. I still hang around here being irrelevant, irreverent and irascible.
What I enjoy most is watching the big brains bang into each other, terrified that they may not drive their point home forcefully enough to triumph and their egos will go limp. Christian bashing is always fun.
Occasionally, if the sun is out, I try help people who are suffering and toss in my tuppence worth of home grown wisdom.
My aim is to avoid looking too foolish but due to my dry sense of humor I sometimes upset people with whom I was trying to have a laugh.

You obviously have a better grasp of things than most of the Christians I have talked with.
Your mistake is to take the bible literally. Apparently it is merely a metaphor and you do not need the bible to be a Christian.
Just let Jesus enter your heart and enjoy a warm fuzzy feeling that comes from knowing that you are saved for a special purpose and will never die. As a slave of Christ you can then enjoy freedom!
If asked to explain what you base your beliefs on just become angry and shout loudly that you are being persecuted for your faith. This will provide you with proof that you have been chosen.
