i thought i would open up a thread on firearms and shooting.
personally i was raised around firearms as my dad was not a jw.
some of my earliest memories are of my dad teaching me how to put a round in a fleas ass at 200 meters.
Serious clay target shooter here. This year I'll shoot about 20,000 rounds. 8000 of which will be during competitions.
I've had some good years. But I am most looking forward to lots of shooting with my son as he grows. He is 10 and I got him a 20-gauge youth model Beretta autoloader. We'll go tomorrow.

with my sister now in the process of adoption, i am becoming more and more aware how the courts view witnesses.
although you are told religion will not play a factor, my sister says that a lot of attention has been focused on the fact that her husband and her are not both witnesses and they want to know "now" what religion the child will be raised in.
they have not said that it would play a factor, but i think it will.
A lot gets lost in the "We don't support what JWs teach" arguement. In this context, what gets lost if the plight of children needing to be adopted.
If the public at large had any idea of what these kids go through, they would have a different perspective. I'm not talking about the few high-profile cases that find their way to the news media. I'm talking about the usual cases where the children are in an environment bad enough for them to be removed. Then the children go through a long process that includes movement among various foster homes. The process to sever parental rights can take years.
Society should not self-righteously deny these children a safe, permanent home just because the parents belong to a loony religion

Replacements: The insanity of the replacement theory would be obvious to you, if it were not for the fact that Freddie and the society invented it.
8,000 still remain: The insanity that of the 10,000 or so from the 70's, 8,000 still remain (even in new incarnations as replacements) should be obvious.
You won't see the obvious until you are ready. We'll be here when you are.

actually i get shunned just about every day at work.
there are at least three or four witnesses that work with me and know me, but they shun me everyday( one of them saw me on this site lol) well i am sick of it, so starting today i am going to speak very loudly to them in front of people.
i wonder what they'll do....any suggestions of what to say, just quick lines because they tend to walk away as quickly as possible
I've dealt with dubbies at work before. None had the nerve to try that shunning thing.
Now I can't speak of Canadian laws. But I'll bet there are comparable rules up there in the great white north. Here, what the dubbies are doing is referred to as 'creating a hostile work place.' They are treating you in such a way because of your religious beliefs.
One chat with the HR person should solve the problem.

The whole 'they work for less' arguement is circular.
Let me cite two points:
1. There was a time back in the day, maybe 5 to 10 years ago, when it was possible to see a house being built, and the roofers might just be Americans. We didn't mind putting shingles on rooves then. We just don't want to do it for $8.75 per hour.
2. Remember when there was such a thing as a summer job for highschoolers? That was not all that long ago either. Businesses used to wait for the flood af cheap, available labor to get some stuff done. We don't hear so much of that anymore.
We're giving too much of our economy, our country, and our culture away to people that we never wanted in the first place.
Yeah, I'm certain the economy is going to miss all the gardeners and hotel maids skipping the annual May 1 retail splurge.

I gotta go with that Babylon book. Remember how all those dutiful dubbies simply capitulated and said that they could not follow these deeeep topics? Those clowns (no insult to actual, useful, rodeo and circus clowns) couldn't recognize a pile of crap if it was on their dinner plate.
A few years ago I decided to really study that book - page by page, paragraph by paragraph. I crossed out all the points that were unsupported and/or were developed through logical falacy. There was nothing left.
(I never studied the Climax book. But that got so many votes, that I gotta take a closer look at that one.)
