situation:.
my mom and sister came down in november "during thanksgiving" break.
my mom has been a jw since i was 1 year old.
Leave it alone. Witness family are like an old scabby wound that it is irresistable to pick at but it just prolongs the wound. Your mother and sister have made their fcuked up decision and you wont change their minds bringing this up.
Move on and be fabulous.

i got conned in as an adult but my now ex-wife was raised in the collective.
meetings, ministry, study etc don't make a bad childhood, abuse and neglect do.

Hhhmmm... reading this board has always made me feel a little guilty that I had such a lovely childhood. Yes. it was in the Borg. I was deeply loved by my parents, we had fun. Yes, I didn't celebrate birthdays ,christmas etc but that never ever bothered me, maybe a born non-conformist. It may sound bizarre, but our family studies were inevitably hilarious.
Leaving was deeply unpleasant, yes, but that hasn't altered the fact that my childhood was secure and produced a secure and confident adult.
My experience may be exceptional, I have friends whose parents were a nightmare, but they'd have been a nightmare JW or not.

i had lunch with a jw friend who's just finished a law degree.
she was saying that at the last circuit assembly the bethel speaker, (philip longstaffe) said that the society had not changed its stance on further education, and that college for vocational skills was all that they thought was ok. my friend's a bit of a free thinker (i'd half hoped that this lunch date was to tell me she had doubts, but no) so she doesn't give fig what they think.
i was actually appointed as an elder the month before i started attending uni and the co had told the other elders it was no reason to prevent my appointment.. anyone else heard this at their assemblies?

as some of you know, when cj and i were married, i adopted her daughter, and raised her as my own.
i love her so much, i never referred to her as step-daughter, and never will.
she calls me dad, even though her biological father, somehow found his way out out of the woodwork, when she turned 18.
If your younger children are 'aware' as you put it, they surely will expect their adult sister to be like their adult parents. They cope with the knowledge that you may have sex together and will cope with knowing their sister does too. They may tease her, but that's what siblings are for. Separate rooms will make everyone embarrassed.
But, it is your house and you have the luxury of making your own rules.
how many cases are there of people leaving the jw organization or being df'ed because they decided to be gay?
is it common?
i haven't heard of many cases, but i also haven't researched a whole lot.. .
On reflection I can think of 8 ex JW friends who are gay, and not on this board, all in th UK. Only one is dfed. I also know about 4 active, faithful, and celibate gay JWs.

I left the because I didn't believe any of it, and never had.
I am also gay. My JW family like to think this prevented me ever believing. I'm not df/da, just stopped.
there is a guy at work that i had heard was a jw, so i was working with him and we had a few laughs talking and joking around so i was starting to pry and get it out of him that he was a jw, also i had heard a few things and wanted to ask him as well.
so i asked what he did for christmas and he avoided the question and then i said, "oh yeah your a jehovahs witness" and he said he was, right after he said "but i got some good presents" (admitting your a jw seemed to be awkward for him) as he is the only jw in his family.
i told him that my parents were as well and my grandparents went to the same hall as he did many years ago.
Ditto what Euph and Blondie say. Sounds like he's unlikely to be holding any 'privileges' for him to lose. Apart from answering. ugg!
the person in question is my husband's mother who is a jw.
she is in her late 40s... has been a devout dub for 20 years or so, and has never to my knowledge had any spiritual "problems".
she exhibits every characteristic that the typical rank-and-file should have.

It's interesting because a friend and I often talk about the high incidence of M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome amongst JWs. Illness is the legitimate way of stopping pioneering or leaving bethel, staying off meetings or field service. My friend works in adolescent mental health and has seen a number of children that come from strict religious families who have M.E.
For those who have M.E. or C.F.S I'm not suggesting that they are purely psychsomatic disorders but that mental well being/stress play a part in the condition.

in searching for info i stumbled across this board because i have just run into a problem with the witnesses.
It sounds to me like you may be dealing with an inexperienced body of elders that feel you should be disfellowshipped as proof of a scriptural divorce. I'd go with the verbal threat of legal action. I'd been out for 2 years when I had some elders start harrassing me and they were scared off when they heard I was considering taking legal action.
I hadn't planned to frighten them, it was the xJW grapevine that reached them, and I subsequently discovered via my JW mother that it was this that had stopped the hunt. She thought it a clever move on my part but it was accidental. Tell the elders via your ex-wife that you'll take legal action if they pester you again.
