28 yrs with jws. many years in limbo. now i see. i am a christian. i have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior and love Him with everything that i am, but only because He loved me first. i attend a small presbyterian church. that is not important at all. the reason i am there is because they also love the Lord and study the Word. it is not at all important what church you attend. what is important is relationship with the Lord. Listen to those above. they are right. Psalm ll8:8.

realness, i feel for you. you are obviously very sincere in what you say.
i too was once in the place where you are. i pioneered for many years. my life was the organization, following its teachings (believing that the teachings were scriptural). all of my family and friends were jws. i married a bethelite. i was raised a jw, my father was an elder. i swallowed everything wts said too, hook, line and sinker. i considered myself to be "zealous".
when after a while some serious scriptural questions were raised that the elders could not answer by scripture, we were told to simply not question. --direct quote. when issues were raised with some of the anointed, that could not be answered by scripture, they said they "would follow watchtower above the bible." -- direct quote.
it was a long gradual process of leaving, one thing heaped upon another. more than l0 years of doubts and questions not being addressed.
i was in a spiritual limbo for many years after leaving. in the last year or so i have made contact with a christian church, unjudgemental, accepting of questions, providing so much spiritual food. they provide for probably a dozen different bible studies each week, available to all. they read THE BIBLE. they read and discuss scripture alone, no watchtowers, no books. it has been totally enlightening to me that there are others who read and rely on scripture. i always believed as a jw that we were the only ones. totally false propaganda.
i really hope you can open your mind and allow for the possibility that there are others who love God and His Word. i sincerely hope it does not take you too long to find out "the real truth" about the watchtower society.

Confessions of an ex-elder
by Irreverent insince this forum is for cleansing and healing through sharing, i want to share some confessions of an ex-elder.
how could i have allowed myself to be conned into becoming an elder?
and, after becoming an elder, why did it take me 3 years to finally figure out the hypocrisy of the organization?

it gives me pause. i think we females were spared the agony of what you describe. for once it worked for us as we did not have to bear this responsibility. im glad you made it out.
i forgive you, as well as i believe all others here will do also. don't beat yourself up. look ahead and find others you can help with your experience.
my best to you. nowisee

The WatchTower and Higher Education
by Maverick inrunningman's post on the fallacies of the watchtower reasonings started me thinking on the gb's stand on higher education.
i am impressed with the superb thinking ability of many who post here.

this issue is a real sore spot for me.
no, i did not go to college. my iq tested in hs at around l35. my mother is mensa. my father was brilliant, should have been lawyer, but he lived through depression and never realized his full potential. every year my hs counselors fought with my parents to get them to allow me to take college courses. they refused. probably as much because i was female (girls just get married and have children and don't need to work) as because i was jw. jws gave them a valid reason to deny me schooling. at age 37 i struggled and found a way to attend a trade school which now affords me a decent living. none of my family found a way to come to my graduation. what a smack in the face.
on my down days i can get really angry about this. thankfully i have found a way to do something i love on my own.
that is really the bottom line. it is up to each one of us to create a meaningful existence for ourselves.

My Story
by Jennie in(note from mom -- cruzanheart -- our jennie, who is 9 years old, wanted very badly to join the forum, so we agreed that she could as long as she posts and reads while sitting on one of our laps, for censorship purposes!
she wrote the following essay over the weekend after we had a talk with her about the circumstances surrounding her grandfather's death.
she's letting me type it, but the spelling and punctuation is hers.).

hi jennie, its nowisee again.
there was one thing that i forgot to tell you yesterday. suicide is really really hard to understand when you are 9 years old. if you can't understand it now you shouldn't feel bad. practically no 9 year old can understand it -- even adults have trouble sometimes. so if you just want to put it in a box in the back of your mind so you can take it out in a few years when you are older, it is ok. in a few years from now you will be able to understand it a lot better.
right now the most important thing to remember is that you loved your grandfather and he definitely loved you. and that will never never change.
take care jennie. we care about you so much. nowisee

When People Ask Questions About Jehovah's Witnesses, I Tell Them The Truth
by minimus infor a while now, when someone asks me why jw's don't celebrate birthdays, i tell them the unadulterated truth.
i say that in the bible, 2 pagans celebrated their birthdays and 2 people got killed, and that's why we don't celebrate birthdays.then if someone asks about why we can celebrate anniverseries, i tell them that nobody got killed for celebrating one, so it's up to our conscience.
if someone asks if we take blood transfusions, i say no, but, we will take (and i name the different components) other portions of the blood.
