  welcome jusastudy,

  i am very glad you are here. many of us have scriptures that have special resonance and that have carried us through confusing or disorienting times. for me it is the very center verse of the bible, psalm ll8:8 - "it is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man." He is trustworthy and everything will become clear in due course. just hang on and know that you have a lot of support here.

  Did You Ever Aspire To Be Anything Special In The Organization?

  i never wanted to go to bethel but when i was a teenager, i wondered what i would need to do to become a circuit overseer.

  i was a pioneer, the daughter of an elder, the wife of a bethelite. we at one time wanted to be in and were working towards circuit work. it was discovered around that time that my (ex) husband just had one little problem with shepherding the females of the flock, particularly young girls.

  welcome yor. it was very interesting reading your posts. i found them at first to be absolutely chilling, and then comforting, realizing that the wts is indeed in its "time of the end".

  as i mentioned in other thread i have been df'd for about 9-10 yrs.

  i was raised in the "truth" - although neither of my parents were never really stellar examples of good jw's.

  haunted still, after all this time.

  most of the time, i am able to separate who i am today from who i was five years ago.

  soon, it'll be the five year anniversary of my disfellowshipping.

  i think many here on this forum have scars that have not completely disappeared, anger that has not completely dissipated. perhaps we never totally exorcise the spirits of the past. it is good to know that this vehicle is here for us to be able to share, validate and support others with similar experiences when we feel the need.

  one of the main things that hits you when you leave the jw's is that maybe you haven't got all the answers like you once thought, so you begin to question everything, wouldn't you agree?.

  well, my eyes were opened to the prospect of living in heaven, and not on earth like the dubya's preach.

  i have listened to plenty of audio files from people that have left the witnesses and have became born again and if that floats your boat then thats great !

  whenever i have read your words they have resonated with me. thank you also for answering my question on baptism the other day which i did not discover until days later.

  if the bible has been tampered with, if not all is inspired, how are we to listen for the truth. through prayer? does God speak directly to you?

  What does it take to become an elder?

  a question for some of you x-elders or current elders what is the process to become an elder?.

  are there questions like when you get baptized?

  has anybody here ever turned down an offer to be an elder?

  i remember a conversation i had with another female pioneer. we were bemoaning the fact that women could not serve in oversight capacities in the cong., we could only go as far as our husbands in traveling up the ranks.

  well, in listening to blues bro and maverick, i really think we were spared. if the average jw rails against all the responsibilities and burdens placed on them, it must be multiplied many many times for the elders. i would think it would be very difficult to maintain your equilibrium in those circumstances.

  and how many elders do not live up to the requirements?

  it must be a relief for the exes to be away from all that.

  i'm a 25 yr old female that was in the "organization from birth until about 18. my mom was babtized; dad was an unbeliever.

  is there anyone else that can related to my background/situation that feels 100% meloncholocy and pessimistic about everything in this world?

  i feel like when i was growing up, i was taught that, basically, i could not be a part of society.

  age 25 is a long time ago for me, but when i was 25 i probably felt exactly the same as you. please know that things will get better and that you have now found a place where you will meet many friends and find much support.

  Hiding your past

  when you make new friends, do you tell them that you already belonged to the jehovah witnesses or do you rather keep that secret?.

  are you afraid that they would treat you as a nut, if you admit that belonged to that religion?.

  i don't feel there is anything to be ashamed of, and i don't try to hide. im usually quite upfront about things i have been through if im with someone with whom i want to be friendly. i don't feel it is a reflection on me, particularly since i was raised jw and did not choose it for myself.

  perhaps it is different for those who converted to jw??

  When is depression a good thing?

  the last five years i was a dud i suffered chronic depression.

  not debilitating depression, but a low- grade constant dissatisfaction with whatever!

  the one saving grace for me was my job.
