What is a generation?
by larc ini think we all know about the changing definiition of "generation" by the watchtower society.
i thought i would highlight history in terms of generations.
my great grandfather was born in 1850. that would make him 29 when russell started his religion.

Well, see, I look at this and it looks as if either whatever Jesus was predicting happened within 20 years of his death or he was no better a prophet than some others we could mention. But I'm no biblical scholar or eschatologist and all of this just baffles the sh*t out of me.

LANDMARK DECISION - Vicki Boer vs Watchtower Society
by Uzzah inas most are aware, vicki boer has been long awaiting a decision to be handed down in a case she started against the society in canada.. the decision was handed down today.
as with any 55 page decision, it will take some time for the legal experts to hash it over and decipher what was said.
but, in a nutshell..... vicki won.

Believe me, as someone with no background who is trying to understand all this, "JWs for Dummies" would be greatly appreciated. Of course the Watch Tower would hate it because in trying to make it coherent, it would become abundantly clear what a mass of craziness and contradiction the "doctrine" comprises.

Supreme Court Ruling Thursday on Grounds of Privacy
by ninecharger inthursday, the supreme court overturned the ruling in the 1986 georgia case bowers v hardwick.
in essence the court said that anti-sodomy laws are unconstitutional as they invade the citizen's right to sexual privacy.
how will the wt react?

This decision can have no effect on the behavior of any religious group. I can't imagine the Watch Tower will do anything other than Fred Phelps--fulminate, fulminate, fulminate. There will be lots of ugly stuff in the media. And the constitution doesn't protect any of us from that.

I think I'm talking about something different, but I think it can be passive-aggressive to pass on what someone else says ("my husband can't believe what a bad housekeeper you are" "She says you are never here on time" etc. But "this is being said, how can I help you deal with this?" seems like a good response.
