Considering some of the elders I have seen who are absolute dicks, then obviously someone isn't vetting the nominees very well. And the nominees aren't voluntarily disqualifying themselves either. The idea that Holy Spirit has anything to do with the process is a real laugh.

stupid statement in watchtower about appointments of elders
by hoser inafter going through all the processes of how they appointed elders in the past they say this:.
"the elders in turn would inform the newly appointed men of their appointment, asking them if they were willing and actually qualified to accept the assignment.
so after qualifying the man you ask him if he is qualified.. .

If they believe in 'draining the blood of an animal while it is still alive', then that shows me that they are oblivious to the suffering of those animals. I couldn't care less if it's the 'way things are done there'. Making animals needlessly suffer has it's consequences. Maybe Ebola is such a consequence. In my opinion, what goes around, comes around.

This week's Book study :the chicken or egg debate
by raymond frantz inthis week's book study has this to say on paragraph 11:.
11 all humans are by inheritance sinful and thus deserving of sins penaltydeath.
(romans 5:12) but jehovah finds no pleasure in the death of sinners.

The whole concept of all humans being 'sinners deserving of death' and requiring a 'ransom sacrifice' to 'save' then makes absolutely no sense. What a pessimistic outlook on life. I think most educated people now reject that whole worn-out story. It's much more enlightened to view humans as basically good than to think that everyone is a 'born sinner' deserving of death. It's no wonder that many people are turning away from Christianity nowadays. Believing anything in the Bible is a big mistake. Optimism is far more appealing.

RELIGIOUS FANATICS
by NAVYTOWN inmy personal definition of a 'religious fanatic' is a person who believes that their religion is the only one that has the truth.
all other religions are considered apostate or the work of satan.
any attempt to present alternative views is met with either outright dismissal, or else pre-programmed answers supporting their current religion.

My personal definition of a 'religious fanatic' is a person who believes that THEIR religion is the ONLY one that has the Truth. All other religions are considered apostate or the work of Satan. Any attempt to present alternative views is met with either outright dismissal, or else pre-programmed answers supporting their current religion. No room for compromise or original, independent thinking. The Witnesses fit this definition perfectly, with the GB as the prime example. Also Mormons seem to fit the definition. The extreme example is the violent fanaticism in the Islamic Middle Eastern countries. Also Scientology fits the bill. The Witnesses don't consider themselves a 'cult', but they certainly fit the definition of being 'religious fanatics'. Maybe presenting these examples to JWs might give them something to think about. How could they deny that they are fanatical when it comes to being a JW??? Any thoughts?

I have been on most of the antidepressant/bipolar meds. Some worked, some didn't. Sometimes they work well for a while, then gradually stop working as well. The key thing is to see a psychiatrist for an evaluation if you suspect you are seriously depressed and it lasts longer than a couple of weeks. When you are really depressed, no amount of positive thinking or doing 'fun' things can do much to make it go away. My experience with medications has been mostly positive. But it is a process of TRIAL AND ERROR! You might need to try various meds until you find the right one for your body chemistry. The MAIN thing is, seek help from a professional. Also, talk therapy can be helpful while you are taking antidepressants. If you are totally resistant to taking meds, try to see a therapist, preferably one with a PhD in clinical psychology. That has helped me a lot over the years.

The answer is simple: Don't attend!! Avoid going any way you can. Sickness, depression, stumbled, etc. Or you can always tell the truth: 'it's boring and a waste of time,'

Jesus was a false prophet?
by opusdei1972 inand he said to them, "i tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of god come with power.
(mark 9:1).
when you are persecuted in one place, flee to another.

This 'generation' passage has caused all sorts of idle speculation. Which generation is it referring to? When will The Tribulation happen? When will Jesus reappear? My advice is to forget all about it. Whichever 'generation' it actually is talking about, it's still just a made-up story. Jesus ain't coming back, folks. The Great tribulation story is just a myth. So no need to ponder and speculate, trying to discern what it 'really means'. The Witnesses just keep this scary story alive in order to control the 'sheep'. Don't take ANY of it seriously.

Officially parting ways : (
by Batman89 insome of you might remember my first post on here about my dilemma of whether or not to remain in a relationship with my jw girlfriend after learning ttatt http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/278710/1/im-new-and-need-help#.u-kltpldvyq.
while we were taking a break, well it turned out to be not very much of a break because of our still strong feeling for each other (we eventually went from talking every few weeks to once a week and then to everyday again) and things started to get complicated.
well last night we officially decided that it would be best for the both of us to at least part ways for now and end things.

The breakup was destined to happen sooner or later. Eventually she would have determined that you were 'bad association' and stopped all communication with you. There was really no chance that the two of you would remain friends long-term. Better to break it off now than after you got married and maybe had children. Now you can build a fulfilling life apart from any JW influence. And she can find a dedicated JW man to be with. Everybody comes out a winner in the end. Hang in there and start hanging out with non-JW friends. Best wishes!!

Tamar was not a harlot, so Judah did not commit fornication
by opusdei1972 inthis is a portion of what the insight book says about the affair between judah and tamar:.
therefore, subsequent to judahs becoming a widower, tamar, on learning that her father-in-law was going to timnah, disguised herself as a prostitute and then seated herself at the entrance of enaim on the road judah would be traversing.
not recognizing his daughter-in-law and assuming her to be a prostitute, judah had relations with her.

What a convoluted fantasy story. Too bad it's all just made-up nonsense. Never take this stuff seriously.
