Europeans NEVER cared about one another. Never. When Czechoslovakia (or Hungary) was attacked by Soviet Union, nobody in Europe rised a single voice of support against injustice. Not single time during cold war. It was only Reagan who dared to push Soviet limits. All Europeans complied and many would like to return into decades when USA paid for the Western defenses, while East was brutally oppressed by colonial power. When I was in Western Europe before 1989 and I had to hear from the westerners how dare these fascist, ungreatfull Czechoslovaks are for opposing glorious empire like Soviet Union that meant so well for peace and stability of Europe. Who cared in Europe when Prague or Budapest was littered with burned bodies and destroyed buildings after 1956 or 1968 invasions? What did Europe do when Serbian sieged Sarajevo for 3 1/2 yearsthat caused deaths of tens of thousands people there in the 1990s? Europe did nothing for stop rise of Hitler or Stalin. Europe would do absolutely nothing for Ukraine. If Russki will bomb Kiev, they will not care a bit. Europeans always kissed Russia; before 1989 it was the extreme bolsheviks; today it is right wing parties that see in Moscow a salvation from decadent West. The biggest supporter today of Russian's takeover of Eastern Europe is Germany. Its policy since 1990 was compliance towad Russia and they were the biggest opponent NATO and EU expansions toward eastern Europe. They opposed moving US bases there as well. The biggest opponent of both Russia and Germany is Poland and they know why due experiences from 1939. It is not American problem to solve European mess and I sometimes hope that for once Russia or Arabia will take over entire continent and Americans would not have to lift a finger a bit. They would deserve it.

Population of 1 billion was already supprased 200 years ago, and 2 billions lived already 100 years ago. Roman Empire in its peak had 125 millions, 65 millions lived in Persian and Han empires at the same time. Russell believed in exact number of people that would saved which was 144,000 x 144,000 in a new world. Between 1874 and today more than 12 billion of people were born using 1950-1970 human growth rate. Since 1970's the birthrate is declining even in countries like Brazil, Iran, and China.

one done today on the philosephy of death made a point.. if you lived 300 years you might might still remember childhood.. 500 year childhood might be gone and by then you are not the same person you were at 50. in fat you might not even rmembe you were that person!.

Problem with immortality is the finite space and limit of human body, not to mention resources. Even our universe is finitive. The immortality can only work in the space which is not time depended, but this cannot happen in our 3D world. Also, OT did not have not promissed immortality. When Moses was about to die, he beg, reason, argue with God about getting a chance. He did not get it. Reward in after-life was mentioned for righteousness, but not in this world. So even back in the Bronze age, som individuals were awere of the limit of immortality on earthly domain.

donuthole, thanks for your input. You wrote exactly what I had mentioned above. There were always a pack of JWs who were critical of the leadership, but stilll held a belief that WT is really the God's channel of communication and are in mission reform it. Other see themselves as an ancient prophet with a divine purpsoe to return organization to God's mission. Even if they were DF's they see it as a sign for being right and prosecuted as did prophets in Old Testament, and WT as anciet Isreal. I am highly doubtful on intention of these people.

it's no secret that the wtbts has a cash flow problem.

over the past three years they have closed 20 of their 116 branches.

they have sold off most of their properties in and around ny (including some kingdom halls), drastically reduced the # of printed pages for the watchtower and awake magazines, reduced the printing of books and other materials, increased the number of single page tract campagnes, installed cc machines at their assembly halls, and are now seizing of controll of property assets from local kingdom halls using renovation projects.

All valid points. In the industrial world, JWs had reached saturation point and the demographics does not go well for their faith. People in Europe, Japan, and Northern America had aged and there is no easy for proselyte older population. 35 years ago, there was still a huge tail of postwar population boom in these countries who were 25-35 years old when they joined the cult. There is just not enough young people who are willing to jump into new crazy religion. The growth in industrial world is stagnant the best. Significant growh is comming from underdeveloped countries where population does not possess critical thinking skills to analyze religion indoctrination. It is always much harder to proselyte in countries that went through deep secularization like France, Estonia, or Czech Republic versus countries were faith is an integral part of anyone identity.

When it comes to donations, years 2008-2012 were bad due deep economic recession. While the global crisis started in USA and UK sooner than elsewhere, in many industrial countries like Spain, Italy, Ireland, and Greece, it peaked in 2011 and did not yet recovered. Even less affected countries reached their peak in 2008 in 2014. It will take another five years to see really demographic and economic trend among JW. Considering that even deep recession did not boost their ranks, I doubt that they will succeed in recovering economies.

Third world is major fishing ground for religions including JWs. But WT is not only player there. Catholic, mormon, Islam, and other faith compete there heavily for the souls.

I think the invisible Armageddon is possibility. Alternatively they can claim that it was postponed. I still believe that WT will put these lies for another 20 years and until 2034 so they can have enough time for the old generation of JW to die off and younger will be excited on the new light about imminent armageddon. My evil aunt dragged my parents into the cult in the 1970's, my father eventually stopped with study, but mom proceded, got baptised in 1970's. She is still in at the end of her life expectancy, and so is my sibling. Generation that should never die, is dead. My aunt is dead, but she produced bunch of children who are a vital JWs and make singificant membership in local KH. WT can play the end-game scenario for many many years ahead.

I am personally skeptical. It been 30 years since CoC and nothing had shaked the organization. Cult is still strong with millions of followers. There were always unhappy people in the high ranks of WT since its foundation and there was always power struggle. I find it funny when people talk about inner awakening, when these people have the same access to the same tool and the same bible as many of us who jump the ship years ago. What they were doing? Holding into the rope of the WT and awaiting for Kingdom to come after all these decades and 100+ years of nonsense? Also there were always appologists who were DF and still think that WT is the "Truth" and they seem themselves as another Issiah or Jeremiah on mission reforming WT or even turning it into more crazy cult.

i sent my dad the fred franz talk "my story" when he somewhat candidly discusses the failed prophecies, 1925 etc.

i was hoping it would plant a seed of doubt in his heart.

however my parents eat sleep and breathe wt.

Problem with many JWs are like donkey following the carrot stick and they will never figure out that they been decieved and worship false, man-made religion. Some do weake up, but many will stay in the cult until they die waiting for a reward that will never come.

please don't take this the wrong way if your battling weight problems, that's not what this thread is meant to talk about.

i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.

i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".

When I did field service with elders, we did hiked a lot through the mountains and woods to go from village to village. In the woods we shared different biblical verses and things about life. However, my fanatical JW aunt did not liked it and complained that we waste too much time in between villages and do not use bus to cut a time. I knew JWs who go to countryside by car, spread out through village, meet in couple hours, drive to another.. no movement required. They move less than tranquilized turtle.

with the crisis in gaza, the rise of islamist militants in iraq and syria and the international stand-off ongoing in ukraine, it can sometimes feel like the whole world is at war.. but experts believe this is actually almost universally the case, according to a think-tank which produces one of the world's leading measures of "global peacefulness" - and things are only going to get worse.. it may make for bleak reading, but of the 162 countries covered by the institute for economics and peace's (iep's) latest study, just 11 were not involved in conflict of one kind or another.. worse still, the world as a whole has been getting incrementally less peaceful every year since 2007 - sharply bucking a trend that had seen a global move away from conflict since the end of the second world war.. the uk, as an example, is relatively free from internal conflict, making it easy to fall to thinking it exists in a state of peace.. but recent involvement in foreign fighting in the likes of afghanistan, as well as a fairly high state of militarisation, means britain actually scores quite poorly on the 2014 global peace index, coming 47th overall.. .

I kinda looked into the text and artickle and it is rather stupid. 11 countries they meniotned were Qatar and Vietnam, both which have strained relationships and internal problems. Qatar and Iran do not like each other, and Vietnam has disputes with China over territores back from the 1970's. Blue countries were pretty much all NATO block, which exception of Slovenia and UK have not experienced a war in past 50 years.
