hi Outlaw or should I call you 'Dog of many synonyms' actually i'd have done the whole scripture quite happily since none of it contains rejoice so were are we now? firstly in a scripture that has angels clearly refering to God in their praise congratulating him as a people do the parents not jesus.....you are now saying... Glory..(means)..rejoice...(means)..celebrate..(means)..annual observance of christmas a nice line of synonym reasoning ^^ completely mad but interesting :) Reniaa
HI jgnat
Like I said to others pagan roots isn't the only creteria the galations scripture and what the festivals means by it's 'fruits' (new year is also rejected because it encourages over-drinking), as a child in Jw's, mother's day and father' day was a personal choice back then (but they maybe have a more strict line now I couldn't find JW info on them), as an English person I've never celebrated thanksgiving so it's not an issue for us.
I don't think you are a bible follower at all, reniaa. You follow men - the Watchtower - and interpret the bible with that peculiar slant. You decide what is iron-clad and what is controversial, based on pre-concieved doctrines from the society. I'm sorry the bible doesn't allow all your beliefs to be tied in to a pretty bow, but the bible is like that. It is not nearly as neat and orderly as the society itself.
well my profile does mention that i'm thinking of going back and my posts reflect this so you not stating anything I haven't said of myself jgnat but I do quite happily say when I disagree with Jw's as with the shunning and university teachings.

Actually the bible is something i'm quite happy with but it's the Jw;s that don't fit my creteria but the alternatives don't either. Strictly speaking they are not Arian christians, it's like calling Jw's christeldelphians or in trinity christian churches calling a baptist a lutherian, Jws share a common belief with the early Arian church as they do christeldelphians that is the singular God and that jesus is his only begotten son, there isn't enough known about Arian beliefs to do a comparitive study. Arians didn't have the holiday/feast issue because at the time they were around christianity hadn't started celebrating feasts accept passover.
I call myself Arian just to illustrate that whichever way the future takes me it will never be towards a trinitarian belief so in that respect I am anchored to the One God doctrine which was the Arian's main teaching.
You give you opinion straight Jgnat and I will always respect that :)

Thanks Reniaa.
Jgnat is a dear person and moderator here.
She's kind-hearted, but well versed on many issues; responding here in-kind to your amazing thread.
If there's anyone to call me out on 'naughty-boy' behaviour, don't you think she won't clip my shoulders on occasion.
Glad you respect and view her posts/follow-ups as you have.
Thanks!
reniaa,
go back to the JW dirt, and your kids will someday hate you for that.
I somehow wish my mother would have not went into that KH in 1978
hi outlaw
if you know dictionaries and suchlike look up ad hominen arguments,
btw you use the word watchtower as an insult but I'm used to it, on here even the nicer ones use this as a fall back position, its part of their comfort zone. but I chose to come on here so I expect it. I think after your last reply we've said all we ever need to say to each other, it was an interesting debate outlaw

I know you mean well but logical fallacies 'appeal to emotion' an often used one. have limited effect because they are unfair use of emotional manipulation.

Reniaa
I could care less what you decide, just trying to save you and your children grief.
btw you use the word watchtower as an insult
the watchtower is also inadvertenly used a an idol by jehovahs witnesses.
i know plenty of witnesses who use the watchtower symbol as a lapel, tie pin, and decal on personal items.

Eyes Open,
I tried to read that steven McKenzie book but I'm not sure how to download it. It sounds quite interesting.
