Part of JW lore is the concept of sifting. The "Harvest Siftings" of Russell were echoed by the post-1975 rationalization that Jehovah allowed those events to play out so as to sift out those who were serving a date from those who were truly serving Him. In this way decreases in membership can be spun as a necessary part of the Divine Purpose. Whether or not the initial post is true, it would appear another period of sifting is upon us. However, this time we're talking about many more people being affected than in the past. Maybe this time the ugly reality will overshadow the spin. In addition, I agree with everything posted by Betsy.

If a JW parent is willing to allow their son or daughter to die from refusing a blood transfusion; then obeying a new shunning policy is not so big of a leap is it?

JeremyC, Of course, we all know that your statement is true. We have always known it. But to see it boiled down to 2 sentences, and to see it in print, is really sad. Seems so surreal.

I missed this fascinating thread and have been trying to catch up with it for the past two days.

Lots of good comments on here. Let me add a few.

I think if this is done, it will be for legal reasons, as well as an attempt to put pressure on faders to get back to the Hall. Also, if faders are viewed as DAed, more of them will be shunned by the JW rank and file, so the WTS may see it as a form of protection from WTS criticism.

As someone wrote, the WTS is dealing with a huge group of semi-apostate faders who are intermittent meeting attenders, etc., and this would be a way of weeding at least some of them out.

Also, I know and trust Illowy, and he made it clear he'd been unable to totally verify his first post.

I understand that Illowy has been banned from JWD due to questioning what sounded like a totally crackpot poster on here. I'm not sure, as I wasn't involved with that thread or discussion, and haven't read it, BUT I would like to request that the ban on Illowy be lifted. He's been an asset here.

The one problem with the whole premise of getting rid of those who no longer attend is that it really will not solve the most crucial problem for the watchtower. There are and still will be those attending who do not believe the nonsense. They will still post on the net and release material.

I don't believe they can totally control things as much as they used to when apostate material was scarce. The internet changes the whole playing field. I still hope it will cause the whole borg to implode.

The question this thread raises is not whether or not the GB will take action against this problem. The only question is what will they do and when. This "gray zone" of people who are in a sort of half apostate / half JW positions is something they are going to need to do something about. They know it, and we know it. The most probable action that they may feel they will have to take is to expand their shunning policies.

I have to agree Jeremy C. I remember in the ' 70s there were the apostates w/their signs and literature outside the District Assemblies. We were told not to have ANYTHING to do with them. Don't even LOOK at them; just keep on walking. Now, people can go online at home and discreetly find out what they have to say. So many more people are having doubts now.

Well said, Dear Juni! You are so right... and I am so thankful that this is true. In my own life and experience, I had been out for 20 years myself, and still made excuses for them... until I accidentally stumbled upon news of the UN scandal. Thank heavens, and thank Google.

    Love,
    Baba.

Yes. And now we can give them so many more places to go.

    I HOPE THIS IS TRUE!!!!

What great news it would be! There could be a "Disfellowshipping" annoucement or two at every meeting!

I have to say that I thnki this is a pile of horse shit. Can't ever see the WTS taking action against faders etc. Where would they begin? And although it would effectively stop chatter among JW's & 'faders' they would surely realise that such a move would be counter productive as more people in the truth would be thinking WTF, this is insane!
