For the faders, you'll have to show up at least once a month ... maybe do a day of field service. Still, even then you'll constantly get "Shepherding Calls" or talks in the back room because of your low attendance. Boy, I'd hate to be in your shoes!

Actually, "inactive" only means that you have not turned time in for 6 months consecutively. It has nothing to do with meeting attendance. So the WTS is going to start making attendance lists; what about vacations, sick days, visiting other congregations? I know of congregations that accept time slips from people who have not attended meetings. I don't think the elders or the WTS want do this much paperwork. As to shepherding calls, it has been attested by ex-elders and elders on this board that rarely are these calls made, takes up too much of the elders time.

Re. meeting attendance; I think we all know the criterion that would be used. We've all known of JWs who disappeared from the meetings, showing up on the odd occasion or memorial.

Spent some time last night with an occasional poster on here who knows Teddy J quite well.
Word is that TJ likes everybody to be categorized neatly - he was behind the disastrous 'approved associate' title.
So it seems plausible that along with all the reasons neatly given in this thread we can also add TJ's desire for certainty into the mix and that self-DA'ing of inactive ones would fit with the MO of the GB.

Has this rumour ever been confirmed or not? Anyone know?

SA, I'd prefer an occasional confessional. Yuck.
Besty, what is an "approved associate"? Never heard of it. Is that like the requirements for having someone in a JW wedding at a KH?

*** w88 11/15 p. 17 Helping Others to Worship God ***Previously, an unbaptized person who qualified to share in the field ministry was termed an "approved associate." However, "unbaptized publisher" is a more accurate designation, especially in view of the Biblical indication that God’s approval results from a valid dedication and Christian baptism.

BTW, I was called on recently (after over 7 years not attending) and was invited to come to the meetings. No mention that if I did not that I was disassociating myself.

Wow, Blondie. What a surprise after seven years; did you know the person?

Yes, knew both. And they knew that how long I had been gone. The elder bodies have several reasons to have a fire under their rear
1. specific instructions to call on inactive
2. traditional instruction to call on inactive around memorial
3. WT study articles coming up on "encouraging" the "inactive ones"
It was pretty much a duty call.......I hate it when they just drop by and don't call to see if is convenient for you....where is the love in that?
