Which takes us back in the direction of: "god" wanted to keep "knowledge" for himself; it was therefore "wrong" or "bad" for HUMANS to seek out knowledge...

IF... someone else's conjecture is right.

I don't embrace a lot of conjecture or even doctrine/dogma as it is, so that is a big if, imo. So someone else's conjecture doesn't necessarily change my understanding. It might be interesting, sure... other viewpoints can help us to broaden our perspective, or help us to consider something we might not have, otherwise. But the above contradicts that Solomon was even praised for asking for wisdom in knowing to discern good from evil. Nor did Christ seem to have a problem with people seeking knowledge.

Tec - look up the meaning of conjecture. It is all you engage in.

I know what conjecture means. I was just pointing out that wikipedia and someone else's conjecture is not proof. No reason at all for me to set aside my understanding, unless that 'conjecture' makes more sense, or is more truthful. Nothing I say is proof of anything either, but I never said that I could offer proof. Only my understanding of whatever is being asked - be it given through the spirit who teaches, or out of my own personal e x periences, or even out of the writings in the bible.

Uhm, when one looks at the track record of the god of the bible, one sees that it - 'he' - wasn't very supportive of scholarly works - unless one was talking about poring over HIS words for endless hours of the day...

"Of the making of books there is no end, and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh..." supposedly written by "Solomon", I believe...

I liked Solomon actually. One of the more interesting characters of the OT

I agree, Zid. The trillions of hours of wasted time 'devoted' to the Jehovah and Jesus Chronicles has been wearisome to mankind's metaphorical flesh. If proponents of those chronicles had it their way we would still be living in the dark ages.

My granddaughter just came in and told me about a girl in her class who, in mockery of the biblical silliness [this is a 12 year old], came into class yesterday and said; " Then God came down from heaven and killed the dinosaurs and the homosexuals."

Even a twelve year old can see the silliness of the Bible 'record' about the 'flood'.

Just as I might teach my 4 year old that Jesus Christ loves him and he does not yet understand who God is, that 12 year old did not have the correct Biblical or scientific knowledge of the event. Didn't the Watchtower imply that the flood killed the dinosaurs? Haven't we learned that they are wrong on nearly everything? If one wants to know anything about God or the Bible they need to look elsewhere.

    Oh!

I was wondering what the connection was between "God coming down to kill dinosaurs and homose x uals"... and the "record about the flood".

I didn't realize anyone taught that.
