"For all practical purposes, the Democratic Party no longer exists. Its leadership has been taken over by the Progressives. That the Progressives themselves are in fact thinly disguised Marxists / Socialists & Communists(not to mention homosexuals, atheists, muslims and about 50 million nonindiginous folk from "south of the border" ) is only now beginning to be recognized by any significant portion of the American public. Unfortunately for all of us, the Progressive movement has deep roots in the GOP establishment as well. The Progressive’s political philosophy is based on a foundation of lies, three of which are the cornerstones upon which virtually all of their other lies are built. Those three big lies are as follows:.........."
I know I`m showing my ignorance here, being from a land down under, wouldnt it be a little bit interesting to see how a morman president would handle things ? I mean you have had protestants , a catholic, maybe a morman can give you a new perspective.
I await to be shot down in flames
smiddy
Mormonism is no more crazy than basic Christianity. Once you accept talking animals all bets are off and the grown ups have left the building.
Romney is an excellent manager ( his campaign is evidence ) , a financial mastermind ( bank account ) and not doing this for more money ( unlike some of the book writing promoting candidates - I think I remember him turning down pay while Governer ) and is ruthless when it comes to economic issues ( which is critical in the amoral market ). I think wacky religious beliefs aside he will be an economic and organisational whizz in the White House.
Such a Coup for the LDS Church to get their man in the Highest Office, expect the big checks to flow. Interesting that the LDS believe Michael the Archangel is Adam.
What if Mitt puts one of those Gold Moroni Angels on top of the White House.
I think that the LDS church will scramble to get itself as far away from Mitt as possible (unless he pulls a blinder and is a loved president) especially when he has to make compromises that aren't strictly LDS. You won't see much LDS doctrine on show (for example coffee won't be banned) but you may get a toughening of the anti - gay legislation :(
Q- Interesting take, Mitt hasn't spoken much about his Faith the way Perry, Bachmann and Santorum have. He needs the Evangelical vote to take the White House but threatens to lose them if he speaks Mormonism lingo. The two groups that believe America is God's Country for the taking (Evangelicals and Mormons) see the Presidency in a far different light than a secular minded Rockefeller type might, Bush was pushing the envelope for the Second Coming.
I cant wait for the swearing in on the book of morman!
haha - still may as well use one book of fiction as another!
I think I have made up my mind to vote for Santorum for the primary.
Santorum is not a Mormon, slicked up hair looking man who was super nervous over his tax records, like Romney. In the SC debate, Romney looked like a deer in the headlight, super guilty man over his taxes. There was no need for such a weak showing by Romney, if he understood the situation. Romney had a great excuse, had he had any basic understanding to income tax law. People who pay capital gains taxes don't pay just 15%. The money was first earned at a job or inherited - and was taxed at usually the highest individual tax rates or estate tax rates. Then, the money that was left over after paying taxes was invested (eg. bought stocks). Such investments are not safe like bank interest. And, such investments help companies grow & create more jobs. So, the government decided to tax investment dollars at a lower tax rate.
Here's an example. A man makes $1,000 through his job. The government takes about 45% (36% state & federal income taxes & 9% combined social security/unemployment). The man is left with $550. He decides to put $100 in stock. The stock grows for 5 years, and he's lucky as the stock is now worth $250. (This much of a gain is super rare). He sells. He has capital gains of $150 ($250-$100). This is subject to 15% tax. The capital gains tax encourages men like Romney to invest their $$$ in companies, and not put it away in a Swiss bank account earning safe interest.
On the other hand, if the stock goes down in value and the man sells it at a loss, he is NOT allowed any capital gains deduction. He can only "net" his losses against his gains. The IRS does allow up to $3,000 a year of capital losses to be "converted" to ordinary losses. So, in the end, a man can only deduct up to $3,000 a year in "capital" losses. This is the 'average Joe' exception. But, big players like Trump & Romney, well, their butts are on the line with no government bailout if they lose big on their overall stock bets.
If Romney, the supposed great venture capitalist, can't explain this to the American people, then he doesn't deserve to be President.
Santorum is not seen as an angry, old white man like Newt. Newt is a great Republican, but isn't going to get the swing voters. Santorum has enough experience in Congress, Armed Forces, and Budget/Business to be a nominee. But, I would love to see Newt & Barrack go at it in a Presidential debate.
