"The parallels of this and other Christ-myth comparisons are not based on true scholarship, but are instead based on 'internet claims disguised as facts'...." tec

So, I take it that you've never read "Pagan Christs" by J.M. Robertson?? Or "The Jesus Mysteries" by Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy? Or "Jesus and the Lost Goddess" also by Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy???

    Sooooooo.....

What BOOKS have you read on the subject????

Or was all of YOUR research of the "internet" kind...???

I think my question was simple. But I can't get a clear answer. It leaves me wanting to assume that I know the answer, but everytime I do that I met with the comment that I don't know where Tec is coming from. So I'm trying to find out where she is coming from--- but that information is not forthcoming. I can't continue this conversation anymore. I don't have the needed information. I don't want to make assumptions, but I can't get answers either.

How does Tec decide what contradicts christ and what does not? I don't know. I don't know which teachings are contradictory. I don't know which teachings are dead on. And I don't know how that is decided.

And this is often the end. When talking to someone about their beliefs, there always reaches a point we cannot work beyond. Which is fine, except when they pop up into these atheist conversations, these questions are fair and reasonable. It's like as a JW I hated when people spent bunches of time to try and convince someone the trinity is not a bible teaching---without even bothering to find out if that person believes such. I am trying not to assume, but I also can't find out what is beleived. Biggest conversation stopper of all. Guess what I'm thinking. Okay . . . .Nope that's wrong. You don't understand what I'm saying. Well tell me then.

UGH. Frustrating, but I think I'm done with this conversation for now.

What did you learn about Jesus from the gnostics or from "apocryphal gospels?

Of course there was word of mouth before the gospels. There is no word of mouth now that didn't originate in the bible and we are talking about now.

You take the gospels with a grain of salt but you have no other source of data about the Jesus you claim to know.

I think you did say you believe in the virgin birth. There is an example of something you couldn't know without trusting the gospels, do you agree?

I'm not avoiding your questions. I answered your question, NC. I don't know what else you're looking for. As far as I know there are no teachings about who Christ is and what Christ taught in the gospels that contradict with one another. I am NOT asking you to guess what I am thinking. I am telling you. I don't understand what you don't understand about my answer.

Not playing coy. I really don't get what you want.

Are you saying that you believe all writings specifically on Jesus's life are reliable?

I accept these, yes. The witness accounts to Christ. Yes. I don't accept them as an infallable word of god... but I do accept them.

    Peace,

    Tammy

Okay. I just don't want to assume anything. I can go from here.

You accept the witness accounts. Are there any parts of these account you don't accept? I ask because you have said they are not infallible, but you accept them.

Honey, you're CONSTANTLY lying to yourself....

You believe whatever makes you feel good. I'm not lying to myself. You continue to get me wrong: my statements... which you spin to your own meaning, then move on to something new when I show you that you were wrong about what you thought I meant; my beliefs - that I think atheism is a religion, or that I deny evolution, or that I deny scientific findings. None of these things are true of me, yet you continue to state them. Then I don't know if you've gotten what I've said to help clarify what I actually believe and said, because you ignore that to hop onto something new.

So you may continue to poke your stick. You are dishonest or you simply choose to see what is not there, and I think I am done.

    Peace,

    Tammy

And secondly, are these witness accounts more reliable than the first 5 books of the bible, and if so, why?

Luke 14:26 - If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

Did Jesus say this? I know the WT spin on this verse and the dance they do around the word 'hate' but it's there, so what's your take?

Matthew 7:7,8 - Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

What about this one? Everyone who prays knows that this isn't true but did Jesus say it?
