thecrushed, I've been following this thread and had also read your couple of other thread.
This is my take on your situation:
1. You are dealing with destructive cult members(your wife, MIL, elders)
2. YOu are dealing with drug addict.
In my opinion, this is even more harmful than #1 issue. I have known JW women just like your MIL and your wife who's life defended on exact same pills.(I said 'defended' because the women are dead today due to perscription drug addiction.) I have a news for you. It is the pills that are real driving force behind of their behaviour. They may will leave cult but pills. All those pills need to go. It's too late for your MIL but not too late for your wife. Your wife's personality sounds very much like that of the deceased JW women. The sad thing is that the women were very sweet and fun but turned into the meanest and unresonable under the influence of drugs. They are totaly two different persons. Your wife's defendancy of pills will get only worse.
3. You are not indepandant financially.
Your wife pays all the bills. She controls both of your money. Why is that? Are you less responsible with money? Or is your wife a total controler? The best way to determine level of your credibility is your credit score. You know what they are and make your plan accordingly. You can't even aford your own appartment in case you being kick out? I am not talking about temporary place before you get your own place.
4. You are your own independant being.
You deserve your basic privacy. Your wife is controlling all your communication. That is totally out of line! You need to draw the line. She wouldn't appreciate if the situation is the other way around. Would she?
Besides, the above points, You need to educate yourself of your rights. You have as much rights as your wife does. She can't not just kick you out of the house unless she has ligitimite reason.
I may sounded little harsh and to the point but this is exactly what I would tell to my own children who I care for deeply.

The reason she is in control of the finances is because she is simply much better at it. I assigned it to her! I take care of the yard, and other mechanical stuff. My wife wasn't a total controller till recently. I'm not horrible with money but she is much more organized and just better at it. I'm perfectly capable of doing it all myself and did before we married. As for independance I'm working on that. I landed a better job with room for advancement. I used to make 11/hr and now I can almost make a weeks pay in 1 day depending on how many install jobs I do. This past thursday I made 300 $ and other days I average 170-200 a day. My plan is to create a bank acct that isn't connected to our bank and cyphon off the top of my pay check as an emergency acct in case she goes bat shit nutz on me.
