Oh the fact that Romney has spent millions of dollars of his own money running, this is his second attempt, he already governed Mass. , he loved and respected his father and is following in his footsteps. Do you really think that someone running for the POTUS has no desire to govern? You just made a wild and clearly wrong statement. Your prejudice is blinding you. Not content with simply disagreeing with his policies you are now simply making up stuff. You got called out, take it, move on.

Why stop there, let's just claim he eats babies, farts agent orange and is part of an illuminati conspiracy to plant Monsanto terminator seeds on the moon. It's always a useful contribution to a discussion when you loosen any requirement to rationality or facts and start mixing your LDS with LSD and go full on piffle.
Carry on.

Qcmbr- Give us your perspective on how important it is to the LDS to have a member as POTUS.

Some LDS are excited ( the white horse type) and are talking about what a boost this will be to missionary work ( apparently there is already increased door to door interest already ). To many this is the beginning of spiritually fixing the US, not because Obama or anyone else broke it but because LDS mythology (Book of Mormon ) talks about what happens when the country is led by a Priesthood holder. Apparently God blesses the land with peace, prosperity and increased brotherly/ sisterly love between the citizens. Many ( mistakenly) believe that the prophet will hold regular briefing sessions with the White House.
The church leadership is playing it smart. They have kept stum but have poured money into a slick tv / web onslaught that emphasises the normality of Mormonism. The current LDS prophet seems a bit insipid when compared to previous firebrands and is likely to see this as a chance to hone the LDS public charm offensive rather than a way to promote any LDS belief ( to be fair there aren't any doctrinal ones that are very relevant to a POTUS.)
The smart Mormons (and former Mormons) , like Qcmbr, hope he just gets on with the job and provides as many opportunities for the economy to balance as possible. Personally I wouldn't be afraid of Romney, it's his party that makes me very wary. Smart Mormons know full well that nothing divine will be occurring since there have been lots of LDS in positions of US power ( like Harry Reid ) and nothing special marks the LDS leaders from anyone else.

Never seen "The Candidate", I suppose?
For someone who seemingly thinks they've conquered everything else they've attempted before, the lure and ego-gratification of winning POTUS must be quite irresistable. Being that he's yet to lay down any plan that is compelling (that is, when he's not flip-flopping on what his plan actually is) he's got nothing unique or inspiring to offer... He seemingly wants to win in order to win, just like the GOP footdraggers who ran for office, only to take a pledge not to actually do the work.

KS- The weak business plan is what is really perplexing about Romney. He's running on being the great 'Fixer' of Business and where is the great plan.

Mitt has plenty of real flaws but it's reaching to say he simply wants the election out of some need to feed his ego. When he lost to McCain he didn't pout and look huffy ( like many of the other Republican candidates this time around ) but he threw his organisational skill and financial resources behind McCain and several other republican local election candidates. He worked his backside off building his organisation from that point onward. Mitt has been preparing the ground for a reelection attempt for years. I get a much stronger impression that someone like Gingrich was more likely to be running on ego ( little real organisation, bluster without skill, clever and knows it and makes sure you know it etc.) than Romney.
I admit I take far too much interest in this election and that I do find Mitt a fascinating candidate. I don't see anywhere near the number of flaws that people are trotting out about him and I'm more disappointed in Obama than I want to be.
I do have an emotional trigger when I see Mormonism used as a cheap shot by people who know little to nothing about it while missing its real flaws. Looking back at how I was as a Mormon and how I am now I know that , in the public world, there are very few choices that I'd make differently , in other words Mormonism changes personal behaviour ( whether to drink tea and coffee and bless your food for example) more than it determines public behaviour ( I wrote code the same, I ate at the same restaurants, I tipped the same, I tried to treat everyone equally etc.) Just as it is for JWs, Protestants, baptists, atheists etc. most behaviour is largely 'good' and people generally strive to be their better selves. This isn't a heavens Gate cult trying to worm its way into power to cause some cataclysm, it's a fairly benign faith that , like all Xians, believes in magic and an invisible divinity. It isn't in any way as hard nosed as the JWs ( there is no equivalent to the no blood rule or the shunning rule) though it is strongly anti abortion, encourages women to be home makers and is opposed to gay relationships.
There are plenty of democrat LDS members though there is a large preponderance of republicans. The church did get its fingers badly burnt over proposition 8 interference and I'd be very surprised if it dabbled again. Officially the church is neutral on political matters and taxations laws will probably ensure this remains. Nothing makes the LDS church move faster than money.

The real issue for most people, if I'm reading the posts right, is deep down a dislike of Mormonism.
I have a deep down dislike for Mormonism----but don't think that is the driving force behind me not supporting Mitt. Understand, I could never support a cult leader as POTUS, but I don't even have to think too much about that. I HATE his politics. I HATE his character. You may think it's petty to take note that he held a gay boy down in school and cut his hair off, but I don't. While the other kids in his possee felt a deep regret many decades after the incident, MITT didn't even freaking remember it. THAT is a character issue, and I take note.
YOU may think it's silly to talk about him strapping a car to his roof---but for me it is a character issue. The man talks wanting elevators for his cars---but didn't care enough about his pet dog to use a vehicle that could accomodate the dog. I think Mitt is not only not qualified to be president, I think he is a horrible person, and his religion is partly responsible.
This is a man that tried to bully an unwed mother to give up her unborn child, under threat of church and god, why would I think he would have any different attitude handling the poor among us? YOU call it an out-of-context soundbite, but I heard what he said about the 47% and that was not out of context.
It's fine if you have different politics, but you don't need to be telling us, ADULTS, what the adult way is to form an opinion. That just pisses me off. Just because these issues of character do not matter to you, does not mean we are children because they matter to us. These are the things we look at when forming an opinion of our next leader---maybe it is different elsewhere---but this is how it is here. America is NOT a corporation---and MITT will run it like it is. Government is not in the business of making profit. That is Mitt's only strength, he can make a profit. Government has to think about a bit more than how much money it is going to make, it has to think about how it's citizens are fairing. This is not Mitt's concern. Mitt's concern is to make sure the rich can keep as much of their money as possible and to HELL with all the rest.

The concern, at least for Liberals, is that Mitt is so weak constitutionally on his positions that he would cave to the Far Right and Corporations that have put so much money into his election campaign.
