Most of the problems that exist in the middle east are because of American and British foreign p[olicy years ago. Had we applied the values of the DoI to other nations we would never be in a position where everyone wants to attack us.
Yes, major powers all did stupid and bad things in their history. Most recently the US led invasion of Iraq which, let's be honest, is the most immediate cause of the current problem but built upon previous 'stupid' in the region (mostly by the US and Britain).
The principles in the the DoI are no more valuable then those in the Quran if they are not applied fairly to everyone.
I disagree. I think the principles are of value even if they weren't applied to anyone - they are noble ideals and something to strive toward. I can think of other books that contain far less noble aims.

I can't agree. The so-called principles were nothing new. They were the same principles that many wanted or already had they just were not scribed into a pretty document in English. However, it is like a rapist writing a love note to a woman he just raped and then turning around and laughing at her.
Good ideas remain good ideas however many times they are repeated and because they are repeated.
I don't think your comparing it to a rapists love-letter to a victim makes much sense or is fair.
