Contributing not a damn thing to humanity for 1400 years.
In lashing out at extremism, please let's not become extremists ourselves (do we really have to lower ourselves to that level!)
The above quotation is incorrect. Arab scholars actually contributed much to the sciences of mathematics, astronomy and medicine. During the centuries of the Dark Ages, the three centres of learning in the entire world were Baghdad, Cordoba and Constantinople. Of these, the first two were under Muslim rule, and scholars were actually welcomed (NOT merely tolerated). That contrasted completely with those lands under the sway of the Roman Catholic church, where learning was suppressed, and could easily have got you under suspicion for heresy.
We can thank the Arabs that we use the 1,2, 3, 10, 50, 100, 1000 .... type numerical system - rather than the clumsy Roman I, II, II, III, X, L, C, M ...... system that was in use before that. Much of the algebra still in use was also developed by Arab scholars, and it was other Arab scholars who both preserved, and added to, the medical science developed by the Greeks.
In this, as in all other matters, it does pay to be certain of the facts before making accusations (leave the making of wild accusations to the Reverend Rednecks around the place!)
