"To rail against proponents of the ideas for not bringing about instant change in all aspects seems to be a little resentful."

Not talking about all aspects. To be a proponent of freedom how can your first move be to enslave and kill others. I do not have a beef with history. I Have beef with people who do not recognize the role certain people have played in history and then blame others for the mess that they created.

If this is about ISIS... I say stomp the bastards out. End of discussion on that point. We all can agree.

However to label every muslim on the planet a certain way and at the same time not acknowledge the same depraved actions that we have performed is pretty ridiculous.

You have no clue what would have played and what would have developed. If anything I could see you making the case for Britian, but not the United States. Even that would be an awful choice but atleast it would make more sense.

Now that is just silly. You clearly have not studied WWII.

However you could recognize that every nation that you mentioned that is so poor and so feeble that you had to help is because of what America and France and Britian did to them during colonialism. They raped these countries of there resources and killed people for no reason. THe put despotic rulers in place and then turn around and wonder why in time coutries that were once allies are now enemies.

I grow so tired of hearing this retreaded false point. It sounds as if you actually believe that America went into each and every one of the dozens and dozens of backwater countries and screwed things up. They didn't. What prevents these countries from providing food and water for their people now? Put the blame where it belongs, at some point these countries need to start taking some personal responsibility for their own affairs, start electing better leaders, and overthrowing bad ones, and stop blaming America, and Britian, for their problems.

Cofty, thanks for posting that youtube clip of the lovely ex-Muslim scholar, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and her extremely enlightening presentation. I just watched the whole thing and found it very insightful and fascinating at many levels.

    People are getting off-track here.

The only thing that matters is that death, violence and suffering caused in the name of religion must not be tolerated and must be forcefully stopped. This is the bottom line morally.

The religious reasons and premises contributing to suffering and atrocities is basically irrelevant, a side-show, in the same way that humankind does not give any consideration to the lunatic rationalisations/excuses of a serial killer or psychopath. All that matters is to prevent and stop such evil and suffering.

The immediate political and militaristic agenda behind the US and it's allies in fighting ISIS is not to condemn Islam or religion on general, but to prevent the wicked suffering of their own in it's worst forms. Doesn't matter whether its done by Muslim extremists or political extremists or whoever.

I won't deny that along with that immediate agenda, there is also an underlying, unspoken, long-term agenda, which is just as justified: to spread western liberal democracy and liberty to these superstitious, ignorant regions of the world.

Any faction, whether religious or political or whatever their ideological premises are, which, for example, beheads fathers of young children who are charity workers, must morally, ethically, and practically be crushed for the evil it is, period.

    yaddayadda2,

Thanks for putting things back into perspective.

    Mikado,

.." so disappointing to realize how many bigots are here."

    Unfortunately, only too true!

In the Reasoning book, there is a section on 'potential conversation stoppers'.

The copy on the JW website and recent editions of the Watchtower Library on CD contain the '2009 printing'.

Both of these contain sections on what to say when someone says they are a Buddhist, Hindu or Jew.

The entire section, present in the original printing, on what to say to Muslims was deleted.

Apparently, the current JW stance when someone says they're a Muslim is... run away.

    Simon:

In case it isn't clear by now, Islam is a disease and the people who follow it are clearly mentally unbalanced. It applies to many religions but Islam seems to be the worst by a long way just like all cancer is bad but some cancers are worse than others. Some religions will never produce terrorists, others it seems have won the word association game - really, who doesn't think "terrorist whacko" as soon as they hear the word "islamic".

I wonder if Anders Behring Breivik makes Christianity a disease. Not to mention KKK and neo-Nazis. But no, Islam is the only religion with crazies in it. This public service announcement brought to you by Fox.

The Muslim Brotherhood is insinuating itself via "civilization Jihad" into our Government here in the US. ISNA, CAIR and they are also insinuating themselves into US Homeland Security. Islamic Civilization Jihad is withing the Obama Adminsitration at his pleasure.
