That's why I consider anyone who can't put aside their religion for the greater part of the problem. It's all "me me me" with theists. Never enough thought to the implications of their actions or rights of others to live in peace. I say close them all - religion has no place with education.

Unless there are specific circumstances but generally "we're extreme religious people" shouldn't be an excuse to indoctrinate your children and hinder their development.

Separation of church and state is a founding principle of the United States for very good reason - theists cannot be trusted with responsibility so the citizenry needs protection from bias and discrimination which religious people tend to be the worse offenders.
4: Enacting protection laws banning arranged marriages for under 18s.Cultural practices all of which are controlled by the west would be foolish. The same thing happened here. You can still get married here if under 18. Please let the world know why the arbitrary age of 18 is ok but not 17?
One role of government is to protect the weak and those who cannot protect themselves. Again, special circumstances can be looked at on a case-by-case basis but generally having 12 year olds married or girls being 'honor killed' because they refuse to marry some fat abusive old husband is wrong and if religion can't police itself, other should do the job and not be afraid to act because of political correct sensitivities.
Overall, I think governments taking firm action is important - not just to protect us from religions but also to protect the religious from the extremists who inevitably gain more influence if inequalities are not addressed. I agree the more right-wing parties gain attention when people are seeing that things are wrong and the mainstream / centralist politicians are failing to address the issues.
The problem is not so much the religion itself. Yes Islam, just like all other religions is a bunch of bullsh!t, but the real issue is the people.
Do you remember the prime directive in the Star Trek? It said that the Starfleet personnel were prohibited from interfering in the internal evolution and development of alien civilizations.
The real issue is that although we live in the same planet at the same time, most of the middle eastern civilizations are a few centuries behind the western world. A lot of the things we consider normal and essential such as freedom of thought, speech, equality, etc etc are completely foreign concepts to these people.
Just like our society evolved thought lots of struggle to understand the best way to live as a group, so must these civilizations. The worse thing we can do is to even deal with them or try to change them. Let them sit in their own stew and evolve with time. Unfortunately we put ourselves in a bind, by going along with the very bright idea of allowing a jewish state to be formed in the middle of a region that hates them - what a colossal mistake. We are now in a situation where we can't turn our backs on the region anymore. As silly as it sounds, it would be best to give the Jews a piece of South Dakota, and let them abandon that stretch of garbage desert. Maybe this way those people will go back to killing themselves instead.
I do see a day in the future where , assuming we haven't been destroyed as a society, where adherence to vile, anti-women, anti-sex, anti-freedom mythical texts will be seen as so backward and harmful that our children will wonder what madness afflicted their parents. Much as we now look back in horror at the witch hunts, inquisition, crusades, slavery, live human sacrifices and brutal barbarity of former cultures and beliefs. When those days come I suspect they will have been socially encouraged by legislation and the media (just as wearing seatbelts, bicycle helmets and smoking attitudes have changed in recent times at leastuni the UK).
Islam is in crisis , it is facing its decision point just as medieval Christianity went through a series of convulsions as it faced the challenge of science, secular law, reformation and cultural change. Though I hate Christianity I give it partial credit for not trying to pull down all of society with it as it lost its dominance. Religion is like a disease that is tolerable when dormant and weak and tempered by democracy. All religions when in a position of power are susceptible to zealous extremism ( I cite a recent example as Mormon Utah when it ruled itself and rapidly descended into violence, coercion and abuse - all under a pious cloak. )
I would be scared stiff of an Evangelical or Sharia or Mormon or JW take over and for good reason. Once freed from the shackles of democracy, secular law and freedom of the press and personal expression they would begin the descent into tyranny and religious loonyness. Like all dangerous pathogens we have to adapt, inoculate, pacify and resist lest we loose the whole body to a deadly illness.

For all of you who have gone soft in the head and are defending Islamists with the erronious view that they are a peaceful religion, how can you be so stupid? Surely you don't believe that! If they are a peaceful religion then everything we see on our TVs and everything we know about their history must be an elaborate hoax.
Don't be controled by labels such as 'racist', 'extremist' or anything else. I believe that which I know to be true and I am not ashamed of my views. I hope the U.S. and allies eradicate them entirely, then I would like to see a much more honest approach to the whole issue of Islamism in our own countries.

Third, I've seen beheadings on youtube done by both Saudi authorities and islamist extremists.
Here's a description of one beheading I saw: a captured Syrian soldier is paraded in front of a jeering crowd. He lays on his front, his arms handcuffed behind his back with one jihadi sitting on the backs of his legs. Two other jihadis are standing by his face. One brandishes a 6-inch knife and holds it by the victim's face. The crowd take pictures with their mobile phones but the soldier, trying to maintain his dignity, turns his face away in disgust. The announcement is made that he is to die by beheading and the crowd cheers. The jihadi with the 6-inch blade starts to saw at the front of the neck and some people in the crowd shout 'Allahu ackbar'(God is greatest). In the first few seconds, not much happens. Then the major blood vessels are severed, and blood pours out. This excites the crowd and someone says 'Allahu ackbar', louder than before. The murderer continues to saw at the neck but has difficulty in removing the head of the victim. So he slices the skin around the neck and twists the victim's head 180 degress, at which point the victim's legs move wildly. I couldn't tell if the victim was trying to run away or if this movement was involuntary. Eventually, after c.1min 30 secs, the head is removed and placed on the victim's body.
The two Saudi beheadings I saw were quick and merciful, each consisting of one downward stroke at the back of the neck and lasting a fraction of a second. I saw these murders before James Foley was killed.
I probably shouldn't have seen these videos but I ask all you apologists one question: with these Shariah court pronouncements and cries of 'Allahu ackbar', are you absolutely sure this has nothing to do with religion?
