Oklahoma beheading - Islam is a disease

I hear what you are saying BillyBlobber but disagree with the logic from #5:

Christianity having a slightly easier time of hiding more of it's B.S. under Jesus retconning doesn't make it "better" than Judaism or Islam as a default; as the end result of how a particular sect or person practicies in the end is what matter. As such, the more liberal examples of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are pretty much the same. The same goes for the reverse.

I think if other holy books have 'worse' content (more directives to kill etc...) then surely by definition that makes the NT / Christian scriptures 'better' from that perspective?

Not better as in "more likely to be true" but definitely promoting a less harmful ideology that is more compatible with the modern world and democratic civilized society. What most people would consider 'better' for us today to for promoting peace and coexistence.

But yes, the other books are very much of their day which is why they are filled with xenephobic mysoginistic nonsense which surely has no place now. If other faiths have addressed this by officially changing their interpretation then they have declared those parts 'null and void' which is what I'm saying Islam has to do too. While they are promoted as current truth they are dangerous.

    @Simon - exactly.

@Billyblobber - do you agree with the following statement: 'Islam is of particular concern because modern-day islamic extremists pose a much greater threat than modern-day christian/jewish/hindu/sikh extremists'?

Islam has various degrees of fundamentalism and liberalism just like Christianity and Judaism. As I stated, many sects just put almost everything under allegory and state "Allah loves all." It depends on which one in particular we're talking about; no different than comparing Southern Baptists to Pentecostals, to JWs to Catholics, and the wide, varying difference in beliefs that takes place through those.

People in this thread aren't seeing Islam as a huge over a billion person base religion with a combination of sub-sects that are somewhere between Judaism and Christianity - they're seeing it as a monolothic sub-sect in itself, like Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons, and holding it to that standard.

I'd say that the New Testament is the best of the Abrahamic sub religious texts, or, rather, the lesser of those evils - although it's still saddled with the Talmud being attached), but again, that's talking about the base book in itself and not the APPLICATION of the book, in which you'd have to go to the particular sect or individual to make that judgment.

...Actually, Book of Mormon might be slightly better than the NT from what I've read of it, but I'm not as knowledgable. Goofier, but it just thinks dark people are worse as opposed to endorsing slavery itself, from what I recall, as an example. As I said, lesser of evils.

LUHE - a bunch of pretenders calling themselves Islamic State have set themselves up as having established a modern Caliphate and launching a holy war. The vast majority of the muslim world reject their claim that they represent Islam (they represent themselves as True Islam in a similar way to how the WBTS represents itself as True Christianity - and mainstream Islam has about the same influence on Radical Islam as mainstream Christianity has on the WBTS).

This is at the heart of our disagreement - you want to characterise these people as representing Islam so you can smear the whole religion and I keep telling you that you can't do that. I feel like I am constantly forced to make the same point. I also find the way you challenge people to answer your questions, as if you are some sort of investigative journalist uncovering a scam and we are avoiding answering your probing questions, to be unnecessarily provocative and immature. It is not the style one would employ in engaging in rational discourse.

I challenge you, Simon and every one else on this thread in support of the 'Islam is a disease' thesis to confront your cognitive dissonance and recognise your arguments for what they are - rationalisations for bigotry.

We keep hearing this as though a simple statement makes all of the religions equal but isn't the reality that the fundamentalism end of the Christianity spectrum has two guys and a banjo while the fundamentalist end of Islam has hundreds of thousands of guys in masks armed to the teeth saying they want to kill everyone else and, most importantly, committing genocide right now.

So I think the "just like" expression is a little disengenuous to say the least.

Sheesh, I don't know what to say.

What I do know for sure is that there is a 4-pack of Strongbow out there somewhere with my name on it.

Ain't nobody gonna convince me otherwise.

Can I get an amen to that?
