Can we clarify, is the notion that the Christian scriptures / New Testament contract did away with the Old Testament a 'general christian doctrine' or was that just a specific JW / WTS belief?

We keep running into this comparison with the bible but my understanding is that the OT is inherently out of date and no longer to be followed (for christians).

So the comparison should be Quran to Christian Scripture. I agree that the OT and Quran are pretty similar but no one is pushing for people to follow the OT now AFAICT (again, talking generalities / christianity)

I think that most Christians say they accept the whole Bible , especially the 10 Commandments. I think a lot of Christians accept parts of both books such as keeping the sabbath holy, even though, according to the Greek scriptures, they are no longer bound by.

C&A - You imply that calling male Islamic fundies "G*** F******" is a bad thing.

    Seems you have some hang-ups

Imo the OT vs. koran comparison falls apart in regards to this disscussion because the OT doesn't mandate CONTINUAL jihad in order to convert or bring unbelievers into submission, the koran does.

Qur’an 9:29—FIGHT those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, UNTIL they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

To be fair there are a lot of commands in the OT to kill people although they were specific incidents targetted at specific groups by the nation of israel back then.

I'm not aware of any generic ongoing command to 'kill non-believers whenever you find them' or promise of paradise and blessings for doing it.

JGod seems more of a hands-on god than some of the others - he liked to get his hands dirty. Then he got tired and needed a lie down and here we are. Apparently.

Billyblobber says ..... Where in the Bible does it say to hang, burn, or drown black people, suspected witches, or people who speak against the leadership?

In the OT of the bible it does say that apostates against the teachings of the high priests were to be stoned to death.

But thats another topic of discussion, this thread is about the Quran and its written contents and how it has the capability and potentiality to incite egregious acts

of violence on to people who are not inherently of the Muslim faith.

......and as far as the NT teachings of JC he said he was going to whack any and all non believers, he didn't instruct his followers to do that.

Unfortunately the devout Christian Crusaders of the middle ages in Europe didn't quite understand that point when they went about murdering and pillaging non-Christian

    communities..

    dear Simon...

some say that because God is always waiting for men to turn to Him for salvation that He is allowing the islamic onslaught as a means to that end. I suppose that way of thinking aligns with fellow poster designs' statement that the jewish belief is that satan and his minions are merely agents of God and not His evil opponents.

still others wonder if the islamic onslaught isn't the final judgement of God on men who wouldn't repent. They didn't want Him to be sovereign and so they got the next strongest alternative. *shrugs*

I apologize. Besides, when people supply their own vowels to replace asterisks it makes a stronger impression.
