What is the Purpose of this Site - My personal opinion?

    Steve

I am new at this site. I was not aware that you represented the policy of this board, and thought that you were only expressing your personal views as to its purpose. I am glad that you posted this information. I was just going to Post a similar Topic asking for this info when I came across your post and I said to myself, "he beat me to it" .

What also concerns me isTheme of this Website. that although according to to is purpose free expressions are welcomed, it is not wt.og or a wt advocacy link, It is a link where controvesial topics about the WT are discussed. If someone wishes to preach, go out in service I feel that preching on this web is disruptive to its theme. The issues discussed here are contoversial ones not those supporting the WT and just because such issues that support the wt are not discussed does not mean that indivuals deny them any merit. The focus of this link is controversy as I see it.

However, I also feel that epressing ones views, feelings and concerns is one thing and there is nothing wrong with expressing ones views or feelings especially by those that have been hurt, but false accusasations is not the smame. and anyone presenting any false charges even in controversy against anyone including the WT cannot express ofense in all fairness in light of the facts neither does any facts or arguments in defense mean preaching or advocacy of the WTor support against the WT. individuals should be be allowed to see evidence and arguments and also epress themselves freely and come to their own conclusions and not forced to line up with WT hatred or WT advocacy. Is not what this web is about?

    Free minds?

Not all post express viewpoints. Some post exhibit evidence or aguments and point to a conclusion. In such posts, a memeber may wish to be free to challenge the evidence shown or refute the argument posted with counter evidence or counter auguments so that individuals reading may come to their free personal comclusion on that issue without distractions of hate.

While love of God means many things to many peple and many times causes people to murder other peple for the love of God, only one law is binding upon all people, not love of God as this means many things, but only one law to love your fellow man as yourself. This is my opinion.

minimus, run that past me again?!!

    Steve..... Don't upset Grandma!!

The purpose of this site I imagine remains to be to help others who might be looking for answers or help/support following their exit from JWs. It has a duty to perform in this regard, having set itself up as such. It exists for those hurt and even angry. I do look forward though to when this site adopts a similar regard for those who ask sincere questions as well. I don't think moderation is a bad thing at all so long as it is applied evenly and fairly. This site should be above just allowing opinions to be voiced that fit in with the mould.

I neither agree with the constant hate bashing of this site from others. That is counter-productive and just creates animosity, and is wholly un-necessary.

I will not mention this subject again as it clearly has got me burnt and marginalised, but thats not an altogether new experience for me here!!

Thankyou Simon for providing this site, and your hard work. Just because one questions, doesn't mean they are trying to undermine you.

The purpose of this board is to provide a safe place for Jehovah's Witnesses, former Jehovah's Witnesses and those interested in them to discuss topics related to JW's that can assist them in their discovery and recovery from facing the truth about 'the truth'.

I've only been on this board since July of 2002, so I 'm really only qualified to talk about myself and my experience, which I hope does not appear overly narcissistic.

I started posting on Tim Campbell's board in early 2002 but lurked here quite a bit. This site was much more interesting, but honestly quite a bit more dangerous. I was more than a little nervous over saying the wrong thing and getting my head handed to me. Frankly, this board at that time seemed to be more suited to one who has thick skin, highly intelligent, all the answers, terribly witty and a bit of a mean streak. I'm none of those things. But I did have questions.

Finally I plunged in, and thankfully I was ignored. I discovered, much to my delight, that all my questions were answered in the archives. I read every post made by Maximus (I wish he'd come back), and quite a lot of threads started by AlanF and Farkel. I used to print out entire threads and leave them for Nina to read in the morning (I worked at night back then). This site has helped me tremendously, and for that I'll always be grateful.

I would like this site to be one that one of Jehovah's Witnesses, who is disturbed by what they have seen their vision of the "truth" about Jehovah God become, to be able to come here and ask legitimate, honest questions, without fear (more than they already have) of being attacked as an "idiot" or "moron" or other more vulgar names. I remember how I felt, and I'm sure others have felt the same way when they first entertain the idea that the Society does not have a stranglehold on Biblical truth.

I don't think this site should be used as a substitute for psychological counseling, or providing people with free advice. But I do think we have a unique perspective on what life was like as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, what it was like to doubt, and what it was like to exit. It is that knowledge and experience which is invaluable to many of those doubting today. I would hope I treat others the way, I wanted to be treated. If I do that, then I take the first step in staying true to my ideal of a Higher Power who cares for all humanity.

    Just my thoughts.

Scoob, "Everyone", in context included moderators, too. I don't feel they should be excluded from threads but should be able to get in the mix like anyone else.....If this site is used as a means to help JW's, exJW's and/or lurkers, then it is most effective. If the purpose of a poster is to consistently (over a number of months), support the cause of Jehovah's Witnesses, their beliefs, their ideals and their views, then they are not posting here to "assist" a person "in facing the truth about the truth". This site clearly is not here for posters to encourage others to either remain or become Witnesses. We are here to help people understand that Jehovah's Witnesses really do not teach the truth and that if one is exiting from the "brotherhood", they can get the help they need here.

Minimus, thankyou well put and said. However I don't have an agenda here. If I post pro JW after a month a year or even a decade, that should not preclude me in the slightest. You should learn to rejoice in the diversity of thought that you speak so highly of since you quit the Witnesses. I think our run-ins have been the basis of this. You don't seem to like anyone whos views go against yours and the majority, when infact you should be happy that this forum can be big enough to support them both. I would not stand in the way purposefully of stopping anyone help a confused JW that might be thinking of exiting, but equally I will not stand by if I feel I can help by giving some advice of my own, it is after all just as valid as the poster before and after me. IF I am as inconsequentual (sp!) as you have pointed out before, then why get so prickly?

    Be Well Minimus...Keep asking.
