Presiding Overseer Says They Will Ask If You Still Want To Be A Jehovah's W

I'd be surprised if there weren't some in the org who didn't believe that the Society was going through an antitypical "wicked Kings of Israel" phase.

I don't understand how anyone could successfully answer "no comment" to a yes or no question.

If for any reason you didn't want to be de facto disfellowshipped, better to answer "yes" and prepare a huge litany of spontaneous, "fits-the-occasion" excuses for continuing to miss meetings and field service. They haven't started disfellowshipping for poor meeting attendance or inadequate service hours, have they? Not yet.

If it doesn't matter to you whether you are effectively disfellowshipped, answer "no" and get it over with.

    as for Elsewhere's comment,

I also wonder if this will result in everyone having to sign or pronounce a Statement of Affirmation regarding their faith or be summarily viewed as disassociated and shunned.

Nooooooooooobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! Almost nobody!

I think it's Ivory Tower Thinking. They've been able to boot anyone and everyone they haven't wanted around in the past....so they figure this is just a small step in a more strict direction. Ted Jarkarse wants only "true" Dubs. What spirtiual food are they really offering? Puleeze!

I've pretty much already "disfellowshipped" them. I don't want to belong to their borg or be known as a Witless any more. They can sit in their own excrement, gabbling about how grand it is to be a part of Jehover's one and only, authentic, money-back guaranteed channel of the true light and pretend to have some sort of authority over me all they want. They can think the moon is the gateway to a parallel universe too; it doesn't make it so.

If I were to not give a yes or no answer, what can they get you on? Once again, just because THEY set up a question, I have to answer it?? If I told them, I would not answer ANY question that they might ask, including, "how are you doin'?"----that is not a disassociation.

"Do you still want to be a Jehovah's Witness?" ..then I would reply that it is a matter for Jehovah to judge, not me or them and that any consequences og them deciding the matter would be expensive to local elders as they would have to personally fron their defence to defamation and other actions I would readily institute against them personally

Let's get real. If the elders are looking for a 'yes' or 'no' answer, and they don't get 'yes,' that's a 'no' in their book.

I have to wonder if this is really happening, and I only question that because I've read the pertinent portion of the new Org book and don't see how it could be construed in the way your mother's PO conveyed it. If her account is accurate, there must have been some correspondence from the WTS to the bodies of elders. Does anyone know of such a letter? This is how the Society operates; they send out a confidential letter to elders that points to some phrase in a recent publication and tell the elders what it 'really' means and what they are expected to do. If that has occurred, then the WTS has indeed entered a new and even darker phase.

Bottom line: if they are determined to get rid of you (and me), they can and they will. This is not an enlightened organization based on the rights of individuals. It's a cult, ruled from the top down.

So by cutting them off as apostates the damage can be mitigated? Thoughts?

Pretty much! This is the ONLY successful tool that they have, to remain (somewhat) in control.

Let's get real. If the elders are looking for a 'yes' or 'no' answer, and they don't get 'yes,' that's a 'no' in their book.

    True!

I would reply that it is a matter for Jehovah to judge, not me or them

Jehovah reads hearts. The WTS reads numbers. You gotta be "is you is or is you ain't" because the way Jehovah does things isn't good enough for them.

If I were to not give a yes or no answer, what can they get you on? Once again, just because THEY set up a question, I have to answer it??

They can get you on anything they choose to! If you don't co-operate (picture an interrogation scene in an old movie) then you will be seen as being evasive. Therein lies the problem.

I formally DAed myself too. Said the same things---that *I* didn't want any part of them---and why! I just couldn't be bothered with their control tactics and silly games any more. To me it was the best way out. Cut the ties and RUN!!!

edited because I totally messed up my last comment----no I'm not drinking---just had someone fussing at me to get off the PC and I was hurrying up to be able to hit "submit"....

    EvilForce,

Why do you think they are taking such a hardline stance? Once faded do they think that person will access the internet to find out the real reasons JW's aren't Jahs people? So by cutting them off as apostates the damage can be mitigated? Thoughts?

The main problem from WT's point of view is that so long as 'faders' are neither d/f nor d/a, the 'loyal' r&f are free to talk to them, and the 'faders' are free to feed them insidious apostate propaganda.

By insisting that all such 'faders' are d/f or d/a, the GB is ensuring that the flock is 'protected,' i.e. insulated from any such disquieting thoughts.

I was wondering why my sister never called me back thursday evening. Perhaps they had a similar talk in her hall. I have ongoing issues with her and she is probably being squeezed by her hubby and the tower
