Hey I have nothing to hide...why not full cavity searches too?
Also I say let's search everyone who lives in public housing or in an apartment building or condo....they might be building a bomb inside their apartment / flat and could cause damage to the entire building.
I don't know what the problem with this is?
How many complained when searches like this were quite successfully used to combat Bolshevik sabotage/espionage in Das Dritte Reich?
Maybe the people opposed to this are Enemies of our Glorious Führer!
    Your papers, NOW dear comrade!

Wow a lot of easily pissed off people on this thread.

Unfortunatly we have entered a period in time that is very different, than what we have experienced before and we are now ill prepared.

These bombings are equally delivered to other Islamic countries and to other Islamic groups not agreeing with these fundamental terrorists.

We are going to have to live with and not be too disturbed by the changes required to have some level of protection.

Although a good level of argument against it is also a good thing. As it tends to keep the political leaders from going too far too fast.

Note the attacks on Egypt now and a few other Islamic populated countries where Muslims are dying.

It is beginning to look like Alqueda sp? is loosing its momentum in Iraq and more and more Islamic nations are turning against his use of terror. If so this would apply to any other group of terrorists also.

My point of view is that we need to accommodate some of the increased searching of bags and people and the use of more recording cameras.

By the way. We are far more likely to be killed in a car accident or by a doctors mistakes than in a terrorists attack. UNLESS they get their hands on neuclear weapons or wmd chemical & biotec weapons.

Then is when the crap will hit the fans.

Anyone have any solutions for this war then??

Hmmm....here's a radical idea instead of spending money on window dressing like bag searches let's spend money on FBI agents that can speak Arabic (which we are extremely short on). Let's spend the money we'd waste on bag searches on more intelligence operatives. Spend the money on response teams to mitigate the damages caused when/if an attack is brought.

In New York on Friday they started with random bag searches that a person can deny being searched but not allowed to enter the transit system. So if a terrorist is toting a bag with a bomb, gets stopped by a policeman he/she can politely decline being searched, walk 3 blocks to another entrance and get on a subway there. So the only bags that will be searched are those with no bombs. (Of course if the police find other contraband while searching your bag, they will arrest you for drug possession, illicit pornography, etc.) Feel good measures that provide no real results yet trample the Constitution.

    I'll pass thanks!

80 percent of people that have their belonging confiscated are never charged with crime.what police do is they take something of someones wether it be money or personal belongings and they charge it with a crime instead of the person and since its not a person it has no rights and its a bitch to get your things back you have to prove that what you had wasn't guilty of nothing and you only have a limited time to do so.

it should be like a search warrant. if they are looking for bombs and that is their reason to look then thats all they get to look for a bomb and not 10 dollars worth of weed you were bringing back for a friend.but thats just my opinion

Hell Yeah!! I agree, there are some simply amazing comments on this thread. f00king A, mini ... did youi really say if someone looks like a terrorist they should be searched?? another poster addressed my reaction ... the American terrorists who aren't arabic ... and were very successful in their goals .... guess they'd be overlooked for those searches you'd like since they didn't fit the profile, eh? EvilF- I had the same reaction! I mean Christ, have folks actually stopped and thought about what the real impact of widespread searching will mean on our society as a whole. I fly about every other week and it is the biggest pain in the ass. Expand that to entering mass transit locations, etc. Shall we just become one big police state? Interesting how folks rarely ever suggest we make a real effort at addressing why all of these people are easily swayed into becoming brainwashed terrorists ... instead let's just surrender our rights to our trustworthy officials who have done such a fine job getting us where we are today. What could it be that would make 3 young men, born and raised in the UK, commit the acts they did? What is it that turns hundreds of beautiful young Palestinian men into human bombs? Why is it that terrorism is spreading like a rapid-fire cancer throughout the world? I for one don't believe it is just religious fanaticism. What is it that makes these young people so vulnerable? hmmmm.....

This is an area that each of us need to approach with caution. A piece of paper will not protect us, it is up to us. We must not let fear be used to whip us, guide us, down a lethal path.

I don't know about you, but I don't see one pissed off person in this whole thread. I see some people that are very passionate about their stance of choice. Frankly, I find it refreshing that so many of us can speak our minds and still be friendly in the midst of the fire. Most of us are growing and learning on this board...learning how to share our "voice" without backing down. I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all.

Fabulous idea! Honestly, how difficult would that be? I know we've crossed our swords in the recent past EF, but this is one thing I have a feeling we agree on.

    The French hate everybody.

Minimus, I think the saying goes:

The Germans love the English but hate the French,
The English love the French but hate the Germans and
The French have a love/hate relationship with themselves.

    accuracy in quoting class, unclebruce
