I seem to remember the Gov Body considered a new theory which would entail ditching the 1914 date. A committee came up with an alternative, supported by one Gov body member, but the motion never got passed. It shows however that the GB had serious doubts about the 1914 date which was becoming untenable. They've taken it so far now that they can never abandon that date.
I'll dig out the references (I think form CoC or ISOCF). Does this ring any bells?

There is absolutely no evidence of life after death, hard or any other type. There is however belief, intuition, etc.
When our atoms scatter in the universe, can there be experience or consciousness? If so it is beyond our comprehension. As a doubting Christian, I tend to believe the glass is half full.
in my opinion, the best way by far to beat the watchtower is to:.
live your life to the fullest.
follow your bliss.
But we are all different, as are JWs or potential JWs we encounter. Joel may influence some JWs that frankie could not reach, and vice versa. We're all on the same side here. If we were all the same we would influence fewer people IMO. As for me I keep changing tactics - I havent found one that works yet

Bluesbrother & Jimakazi make good points. Do you believe in God? If the answer is no, then I wonder why you would continue as a JW. If the answer is yes, then I wonder why you would seek to convert people to an anti-Christian organisation that would significantly diminish their chances of salvation.
I know of one JW who converted to Christianity. He went back to every person he took into the JW organisation, until each and every one came out of it again, he showed them proof of a false prophet and each converted to true Christianity.

An excellent question! The daft thing is, these things are not all even in the Bible. And the ones that are, are completely misunderstood by JWs and fundamentalists. I am amazed that people cannot celebrate birthdays, although there is no scriptural commandment about this, yet JWs regularly practice other things that do contravene clear scriptural commands (my favourite is drunkeness). Can any active JW poster or lurker explain this one for me please?
i'm somewhat currious why active witnesses appear to frequent the site, and if the information on this site causes any to "fade away" or "dis-associate"?.
personally if i have known 18 years ago what i know now i would have been a lot more active in trying to convince all i cared about to leave, instead of fading away [gone with a bang so to speak].

What's this talk about holy spirit? Rutherford changed the gospel in 1935 so the new testament and holy spirit no longer applies to JWs, except for those 8,500 or so. But that goes for Jesus Christ too. So much for everlasting good news.
afin - a humble suggestion, why not invest some time in some serious research into seeking truthful information - keep testing your faith. I have been on a rollercoaster ride for eight months now. Sometimes there are places I choose not to look, because just when I think I know what I believe, there is a scary opportunity to learn something that will move me out of my comfort zone.
