  The "Flood" caused by a comet impact ...

  this article, which mentions the recent probable discovery of a comet impact crater in iraq around the time for the biblical flood, might interest some on this board.. .

  i personally believe the myth of a global flood is nothing more than ancient legends but then we now know that the earth is routinely blasted by fairly large asteroids and comets that can release the energy of 10 million atomic bombs and dramatically effect life on earth.

  I agree that the idea of a world wide flood has been de-bunked by many reputable sources. What mindchild is referring to would have resulted in a significant local flood, which I happen to believe did happen and was the source of the various flood stories. The recent discoveries around the Black sea are pretty convincing also. There seems to have been a massive break in the thin land mass separating the Black sea basin and the mediterranan sea around 7000 years ago. Robert Ballard, (the guy who located the Titanic) recently found evidence of human habitation over 4000 feet on the sea floor.

  do you ever have that little voice pop in your head and say "what if - just what if they're right?".

  it happens to me on occasion and i've been totally out for years.

  It happens to me on occasion and I've been totally out for years. Intellectually, I know that they're dead wrong. Apparently it's psychological; years of brainwashing has done it's damage. Can any of you long timers honestly say that the damage is totally and completely reversed?

  if all matter in the universe came from a singularity where did this singularity come from?.

  can science ever hope to see one or find one?.

  if someone lived a trillion x longer than you, and had a billion x more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?.

  Breaking free of the OIL habit.

  dependancy: the usa, the western world, north and south america, and like many nations of europe and japan, are highly dependant on oil.

  i recall as a kid in the 1950s seeing gas prices at 5 cents a gallon.

  i remember my parents getting bent out of shape when gas finally reached 11 cents a gallon.. 1971: my wife and i traveled to southern california to visit friends and family.

  Hydrogen - the most plentyful fuel in the universe. Unlimited supply, efficient and clean. BMW has a fleet of hydrogen powered vehicles presently touring Europe. The engines are identical to existing gasoline powered ones other than the induction system, which is similar to LP. There are some engineering challanges in storage tank design, but nothing that couldn't be easily resolved. I would like to see the west investing big bucks in developing distribution networks and conversion kits for existing autos. This isn't ultra high tech stuff.
  The main obsticle is the huge investment that the oil copmpanies have in refineries, oil drilling equipment, leases and distribution systems. Seems I read that there is only a 60 - 70 year supply of oil reserves left on the planet based on current consumption. We need to start phasing out oil and converting to hydrogen. We have the ability, right now, to be free of middle eastern oil dependence within 10 years.
  If it takes fifty percent increase in gasoline prices to fund the development/implimintation I would be all for it.

  Media Sensationalizes Nukes vs Terrorists

  listening to cnn and other news outlets, i find that the media pundits are making a big deal out of nuke plants vs terrorists.

  in one case on cnn they are either illinformed or dishonest.. the claim was made this morning that nuke plant containments have never been tested for an airplane crashing into them.

  this is false.. i posted on this topic two or three weeks ago.

  The power in this country, and the world for that matter, isn't wielded by the president,congress or the military. We are under the control of the media; and to a lesser extent the Federal reserve system. Billions of dollars are made and lost, millions of lives are affected via a few words on the nightly news by a few arrogant and incompetant news reporters. I'm a firm believer in fredom of speech, but some of these reporters need to be gagged and horse-whipped.
  Amazing; perhaps you would like a career in journalism!

  when i read coc, i said, ok, just another man made religion, at least most the doctrines and the edicts were mostly right.

  when i first opened isocf, i glanced the chapter index, what?, i thought, how can door to door be an issue?

  Which of the two books would you recommend as a first read for an elder still wrapped heavily in the Org? I'm getting close to convincing my elder relative to read one of them. I've read them both several times but aren't sure which would be most appropriate.

  How does anyone know matter didn't always exist?

  a few days ago i was told matter didn't always exist.. i was told this by several persons who spoke with much certainty.. they said matter came from a singularity.. this as you know raises more questions than it answers.. have they any proof that singularities even exist?.

  how come people state things as a fact, that they have no solid proof for, and expect others to just beleive them.. and if you don't accept their beleif, you are said, not to be intelligent.. isn't that a case of attacking the straw man?.

  instead of the argument?.

  You're right about relativity (E=Mc2). However both matter and energy are tangable and something tangable from nothing is where the difficulty lies.

  Both scenarios seem impossible, yet one of them is indeed fact.
  Think about it; something tangable with no beginning. The mind can't comprehend it. Think about the other possibility; something tangable coming into existance from absolutely nothing. Can't comprehend that either.

  These are puzzles that the human mind is incapable of solving.
