Liftons "Milieu Control" relative to JWs
by refiners fire inliftons milieu control and the jehovahs witnesses
to read liftons milieu control criteria, as he describes it, is enough to make any former witness go yes!
" if we maintain worldly associations for business reasons, certainly these bad worldly associations will eventually spoil our useful habits in the christian ministry.

Merry Christmas/after 25 years!
by Shakita inour first christmas tree in 25 years!
ashitaka and his wife helped us celebrate last night and this morning with great presents, food and company!
what a year it has been for our family.

Today was my first Christmas with the family in 10 years. To tell you the truth, it was a little anticlimactic. Just exchanged gifts, ate a meal, NO FREAKING BIG DEAL!!!! Are you listening WT? Christmas really isn't that big of a deal!!! But, I know, the "no holiday" thing is a major part of your brand differentiation.
I always stayed close with my family during my JW years. I'm so glad that they never hassled me that much about being a JW. Things are totally back to normal now, I didn't feel even the slightest bit odd celebrating Christmas.
Merry Christmas everybody!

Can You Discern What The Society Is Really Saying?
by minimus inso much of the watchtower is written in "code".
so much of the circuit and district overseers comments are spoken in "code".
for example, you are not told directly that you shouldn't read any other publication but the society's, but you are asked, "how could anyone spiritual ever have the time to keep up with their bible-based reading of all the spiritual food that we must take in, and still have time to read "worldly" books?

A few years ago there was something in the KM about how much time elders should spend studying the WT study article (2 hours was the "suggestion").
To the uninitiated, this little "suggestion" would go right over their head, as a newbie JW is not at all aware of the hierarchy and "spirit" of the organization. But the elders know what the CO will be asking them on his next visit.
"Brothers, have we put the 2 hour suggestion from the F&DS into practice?"

How Much Longer Can The WBTS Survive?
by SpannerintheWorks ina 2000-year-old-plus religion cannot survive for much longer!
we are questioning the wbts every day!
the web is a great way of exposing the wbts, and we are doing it daily!.

As long as there are fearful and ignorant people to be exploited, cults like the WT have nothing to worry about.

Are there too many EX-JW Born agains?
by sleepy ini dont wish to offend anyone but this is what i think.a large number of people who leave the jehovahs witness movment become born again christians or join other religious groups.but is this a sign that many who have learnt that "gods chosen organisation" is wrong have not learnt anything at all?.
maybe the prospect of facing a future without a god , a divine purpose , and a faith just too much for some people to bear.but in joining another religious group are they not making the same or similar mistakes as before?they are still putting their trust in a ancient book written by people they have never met, interpretted by other people or by themselves, they have not maybe learnt to be analytical in their thinking and to withhold trust until reasonably solid evidence is provided on an issue.. although other religious may or may not be more harmful than jehovahs witnesses if lessons on thinking and reasoning have not been learnt then we could be open to many more errors of judgment in our lives.. so does the fact that many jehovahs witnesses join other religons show that they are just moving on rather than understanding why jehovahs witness are wrong and learning from it?.
maybe they dont fully grasp that the fudamental flaw to jehovahs witness , is belief in the bible as gods word only the second being following that through an organistation .if the bible is not gods word then all religions who follow it are flawed.. of course what other people choose to think or follow is none of my buisness and i fully respect other peoples right to believe what they want, but if this world is to progress and mankind to improve in thier dealings with one another then we can not all go round living in our own little fantasy worlds , we must be brutal with ourselves in checking why we believe the things we do and trying to align our minds with reality not fantasy.. this apllies to all aspects of our lives.but if we are not honest or open minded and reasonable enough to see there are some massive problems to the bibles authenticity and divine declerations how will we be able to make reasonable decisions in other areas of our lives?

Happy Man I have seen some ex-BA/ex-fundamentalist discussion boards too. And you are right, the tone is very similar to ex-JW sites such as this.
Most of the ex-JWs in my area are BA. Nice people, but really not too much different in their mindset from JW. When I was still JW they were the only "apostates" that I actually knew of, so I wrongly assumed that all ex-JWs were BA Christians.
The book The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuseaddresses a lot of the dysfunction in the evangelical churches. Reading the book you'd think the author was talking about JWs, the similarities are unmistakable.
I think that fundy religions like JWs and Born Agains offer a sense of absolute certainty, which once experienced is very difficult to live without, as I am experiencing.

Sorry to hear about your perdikerment LL.
I bought my own house last Spring. Just a little thing, but I like it. Right now I'm in the middle of tearing up the carpet in the living room and my bedroom in favor of the hardwood floor underneath. Owning is cool. Best wishes for your search for a new place.

The "Clean Organization" Myth
by metatron ini just had to laugh.
the old congregation i used to attend now has two young.
unmarried sisters who got knocked up by their 'worldly' boyfriends.
-
DanTheMan
Met, at a congregation I attended, there was a period in the late 90's when no less than 4 of the young raised-JW girls in the cong got pregnant by worldy guys, got df'd, and reinstated 6 months later after doing their ridiculous "sit in the back and don't talk to anyone" repentance dance. It was comical, and tragic.
