The NWT is nothing more that a biased bible version written for the purpose of supporting the strange WT teachings. Upon leaving the Org. I bought a New International Version of the Bible and found that in the New Testament alone, the WT had made changes to over 200 verses. They added words in, put in brackets, removed words and just plain changed the words to mean something else. I verified all the errors by using their own book called the Greek Interlinear Translation of the Bible. My hubby says usually only elders have this book. But since he was a MS, one of the elders gave him a copy he had. Great book - shows all the WT bible text manipulations!

Archaeological Study Bible
by mavie inhas anyone studied the bible with the archaeological study bible published by zondervan?
the niv translation is used with cross-references and footnotes along with a ton of archaeological, historical, and geographical essays/factoids relating to the text of the bible.
bought it at my local bookstore.

I get borders dicounts too. I think I will go and look at it, it looks interesting. I like the NIV bible anyway. I am going to go on Amazon and see if I can look at some pages. Sometimes they have the "look inside" this book feature. Thanks for the information on this. Lilly

Watchtower "Worship"

The whole point of the organization is that it is set up so everyone is unknowingly worshiping it and not God or Christ. The Watchtower is one big Idol. This started with Rutherford. I don't believe a lot of what Russell taught either but he did not stress the organization back then and at least you could have a personal relationship with God thru Christ. That all changed when Rutherford took over. For those who may not agree with me that they are worshipping the org.
and are still in the Org. Ask yourself these questions:
1. How many times a day do I wonder what the Society (instead of Jehovah, Jesus or the Bible) has to say about a certain issue?
2. Why is the faithful slave (the organization) thanked for spiritual food, instead of Jehovah or Jesus?
3. Do I believe everything written in the WT magazine, comes down from Jehovah himself?
4. Do I study the WT mags and society books more than I read and meditate on Gods word the bible?
5. Do I believe I need the Organization to interpret everything in the bible for me, and that I cannot get the right understanding by reading the bible alone?
After leaving the Org. I realized how stupid I was in the first place for automatically accepting the faithful slave as being inspired by Holy Spirit and appointed by Jehovah when I had never even met any of them in person nor had any proof at all they they even were anointed by God. I asked and elder about this once: how do you know they are really "anointed" and he said, they just are. Geez, why did I not run then?

This whole fear issue

I agree with looking glass. But lady Lee, it sounds like the church you went to is very balanced in their beliefs. You should go and worship God only out of love and the fact that you are not there under fear. Good point! I know others who rather worship God in their own home or outside in the woods, or where ever. And thats o.k. Too. Many believe you have to go to a certain building or believe a certain creed but it is just not true. There is truth in all religions and we should feel free to follow it where ever we shall find it. Those groups that use fear, whether it be hellfire or destruction at armegeddon are all on a power trip and are led by men, not by Holy Spirit.
My favorite worship these days is being outside, looking up at the sky and thanking the good Lord that I am alive and I am Free!
