A person may be able to make a case for the NW rendering of the Old Testament and their insertion of the name Jehovah. But there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE to support their inserting the name of Jehovah 237 times in the New Testament. Their justification for replacing the name LORD with the Divine Name (Jehovah) is because they feel that it was removed from the New Testament. Yet there are over 5000 copies of ancient Greek manuscripts of the New Testament that do not use the Divine Name or Tetragrammaton. In a few cases these ancient manuscripts were written just a few hundred years after the book of Revelation was originally written.

For anyone that believes that the NW is an accurate translation of the Bible, I would suggest that they investigate the history of the Tetragrammaton. Here is an excellent site:

Give Examples of How JWs Try To "Demonize" Everything

here's an example......years ago if a jw wanted a heart transplant or a transplant of any kind, it was considered "cannibalism".

to "prove" that this was oh so wrong, they provided an article about a person who did get a new heart donated to them and suddenly they got the old personality of the donor.

the transplant changed everything about this man and he was no longer the same normal person.......and why??

I remember that years ago the JWs published an issue of the Watchtower with a picture of Disney World on the cover. Seriously! I believe that the article was titled, "Are You Confusing Fantasy With Reality?"

I guess Mickey and Minnie Mouse were living in sin huh???

Evaluating Raymond Franz

what do you think of ray(mond) franz?

i have seen here some people critisise him as not being a really heartfelt opponent of the wts, but my view is that he was quite honest about his expressed motives against the cult.

with his revelations he gave a lot of momentum to the ex jw movement (the apostate organisation according to the jws) and offered valuable assistance to those seeking to shake off the ideological and social dependance on the oppressive cult.

Like many of the posters here, I will be forever grateful to Ray Franz. He helped free me from years of guilt. I had been born and raised as a JW and left when I was about 23. For years after leaving I suffered with depression and anxiety. I couldnt shake the guilt for leaving "God's Only True Organization". I was even suicidal at one point in my life, thanks primarily to the JW cult.

I finally read Ray Franz's C.O.C. in my late 30s. My eyes were opened after I read about the real "Truths" behind "The Organization" and that awful guilt is forever gone.

Why don't YOU believe anymore?

someone on another site was asking "what if they are right?

" which made me think about why i know that they are not and i wondered what was your epiphany or road to damascus moment or moments that just made you realise - hey i've been led up the garden path here!.

here was my response but i really think a list of reasons on one thread for easy reference for newbies would be good.

Yes, that definitely did it for me too. What started to drive me away was the lack of love that I saw. The elders started treating me like crap, just because I decided to go to college. I was blacklisted and scorned. Yet when I asked them to show me in the bible, “Where does it say that getting educated is a sin against God?” They couldn’t do it and at that point they pretty much showed me the door.

All anyone has to do is to read the older Watchtower publications. Read about their TRUE origins and all their failed prophecies and dates of “The End”. They claim that God chose them in 1919 as his only true organization on the earth. Yet in 1919, they were publishing books about things that are no longer accepted by the Watchtower Society.
For instance, Charles T. Russell, their founder, insisted that the “Great Pyramid” in Egypt was God’s stone witness on earth. Russell claimed that the “Great Pyramid” described God’s divine plan in detail. Russell also stated that the time of the end began in 1799 and that the world would end in 1914. Yet Judge Rutherford dismissed the “Great Pyramid” theory when he took over. And of course Rutherford had his own dates in mind when he predicated the end of the world, such as 1925.

Now think about it. Why would God have chosen them to be his spokesman on earth in 1919 when much of what they believed then is no longer accepted teaching today?

guilt feelings sometimes

i was raised as a jw from the age of 4, my father was an elder for 18 years, was a auxillary pioneer for years, been there done all that and decided to leave at age 30, i have chosen a pagan path and am very happy but sometimes i feel guilty for no reason, does anyone else ever have this problem?

if you do, how do you handle it?

I can totally relate to that “guilty” feeling. I was raised as a JW and was baptized as a teen. I left “The Organization” when I was in my early 20s. For years I suffered with guilt. It was an internal conflict that I couldn’t shake. Relatives kept pressuring me to go back. But I couldn’t . Deep down it just didn’t feel right to be a JW anymore. But I kept thinking that I had disappointed my family and that God was angry with me for leaving his organization.

Then a few years ago I started reading the so called “apostate” literature. I searched the web for any and everything that I could find on the Watchtower Society. Then I read “Crisis of Conscience”, and I was shocked. This was the organization that I was feeling so guilty about leaving?

At times now I get angry when I think about my past life as a JW. But I'm much happier now too. It took time for me, but that guilty feeling is forever gone.

The Day all Jehovah`s Witness`s are put into Concentration Camps!

when i was a kid,kingdom halls still had windows.thats a while ago..as a kid i was told in the last days,jehovah`s witness`s would be rounded up and be put into concentration camps..i was told,when the government came to take me away and seperate me from my parents,i should wear my warmest coat and boots.as i would have to fend for myself in the concentration camp..i was told never to give up my faith.even if they tied my parents to a stake and was foced to light the fire that would burn them alive.....jehovah`s witness`s are the "happiest people on earth!

Yes, I remember that for most of my childhood I was always terrified. I have very few happy memories as a child.

When I was 7 or 8, I remember being told that the government would wipe out all religions. Of course we JWs would suffer the most because we would refuse to submit. Us kids would have to be strong because we would be separted from our parents and then suffer abuse in camps and be tortured. And then if you were "faithful" enough to edure all this suffering, we would survive armagedon and live happily ever after. Oh what a blessed day that would be!

What a wonderful way to grow up, huh???

if you could rewind the clock, i became a witness when my mother and farther were still alive.. like many on this board while i was reasonably down to earth, looking back i was still overboard, this was because of the doctrine of the wts that i had accepted.. i look back with regret that perhaps i could have been a better son to my parents.. one instance when my farther was in hospital, the surgeon told my mother that dad had a growth on his heart.. my mother was extremely upset, not over just the news, but was worried stiff that if my farther asked me, my mum knew i would tell the truth.

(there are other ways of answering).

many will say get a life, and we should not reflect on what has gone on in the past.

that's the whole problem with the WTBTS in a nutshell, isn't it. It steals from its slaves. It steals their time, their families, the hopes and dreams, even their precious, magic memories of celebrations with families....all gone into Watchtower slavery.

I absolutely agree with that Gill! I just wish that I could have spent more time with my “worldly” dad, instead of wasting all those countless hours in field service. Now he is gone and I can’t.

she's a strong trinitian christian, and is really good with the bible.

she was holding her own .

You've got the right idea too. I've found that the best source of info on the real "truth" behind the Watchtower Society can be found in their OWN past publications! And since those books were published by the Watchtower Society, the JWs cant object. After all, it's not apostate literature!

IS/ WAS YOUR CONGREGATION LIKE MY CURRENT ONE?

in the congregation i currently attend with my die-hard witness wife and my two kids, the p.o.

is a lame duck elder whom no one really respects or goes to for any counsel, advice, etc.

another elder(lives at bethel) has taken to flirting with a local sister who is seperated but not divorced from her husband.

Oh yeah, I have to agree that all of these incidents are "normal" congregation behavior. I havent set foot inside a KH in over 20 years, but I see that it hasnt changed. Especially the gossiping! There was always talk of such and such sleeping around with such and such. Or talk of some elder's kid dating a "worldly" person.

I recall that we actually had an entire Sunday morning talk devoted around the theme: "The proper way for us (as JWs) to act when out among wordly people." The congregation elders had determined that this talk was extremely necessary because of an incident at a roller skating ring on a past Saturday evening.

Apparently several witness teenagers from the congregation, including a few elder's kids, started a fist fight with some other non-witness teens. The situation got out of control and the police had to be called. Apparently it all started because a non-witness teen started talking to the girlfriend of one of the JW teens!
