No sympathy please. Generally, I never get depressed and am fairly resilient when having to cope with change.
However, after being ?in? all my life, I suddenly stopped everything last December. As a good Witness, I never used to associate with ?worldly? people, and now find I have no friends. Starting over again at 50 is challenging to say the least.I have had a number of ?concerned? friends pop in to see me over the past few months but certainly no invites to socialize.
On the positive side though, I have a very supportive wife and family, even though they are still in. I think they understand where I am coming from. Also, I socialize more with my business partner nowadays and even my wife is happy to go out with him and his wife socially.

in 1954 the watch tower society released a new film,"the new world society in action,"which acquainted its "viewers with the magnitude of the society's organization, its institutions, its field activities, its large - scale conventions, its smooth, efficient functioning and the spirit by which it is moved.".
what its millions of viewers would never see was what went on behind the scenes.what has happened behind the watch tower facade, to real people, not just in the past, but in more recent years?is it a "spiritual paradise" as claimed?.
we all know of the way that the society has treated its own behind the scenes, such men as edward a.dunlap, respected registar of the society's gilead school.disfellowedshipped.raymond v.franz, governing body member, disfellowedshipped.william and joan cetnar, disfellowedshipped.william h. bowen ( silent lambs ) disfellowedshipped.. however, are you one of the "nameless others" who gave twenty, thirty, forty, fifty years and more of your life in devoted service, only to be demeaned in old age because you tired of a non - scriptural agender, or dared question the "anointed oracles" of the "theocractic organization".. behind the scenes, alcoholism is prevelant among staff members, there are the distraught wives of the headquarters staff, immoral behavior, suicides, this is kept hidden from the membership around the world.all of it is documented, yet, under threat of vilification and fear of man, many serve with mute obedience.. the new world society in action, is a facade!

Know exactly what you mean. The Society likes to paint a 'bed of roses' picture but what happens on the inside is a different picture.
I have tons of secular management experience but I can tell you by far the worst, most acrimonious meetings I have ever attended have been elder's meeting. Worldly business 'team' meetings would never be allowed to degenerate into such farces (I actually spelt farces, faeces to begin within but may be no such a bad mistake).
When 'I stepped down' as an elder, I actually said that if the same situation had happen in my job I would have quit and looked for another job. It took, a while but in the end I just left quitely.

Again, I can fully understand your anger. Many of us have given a life time and in some cases more in terms of peoples' lives and relationships. I guess we have to come to terms with ourselves and find our own inner happiness.

to: all bodies of elders, circuit and district overseers
dear brothers,
No way.
Some of the most over-weight men in the Society I have met are COs and DOs and exCOs and DOs. All those rich lunches and hospitality.

i think most jws are not virgins when they get married.
i'll bet the majority have "fooled around".
what's your opinion?
Mostly, No.
Despite the fact that the strangle hold is less today and the "end" has been put off in the minds of many, the Society still has a strong influence on the way people behave, including its young people.
What I do see is young people pairing off at a very young age, many 16 year old girls with boys in their late teens.

Pat,
Chopra's book is "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind". I like his idea that we can measure our age in three ways; chronologically (years old), physically (i.e. a fit 50 year old may be in better physical condition than a 20 year old) and mentally (i.e. we may be old chronologically but mentally sharp).
I am not sure about scientists finding a cure for old age. What I think we have to do as aging individuals is keep a positive attitude to life, our personal goals and our relationships.

one of the biggest reasons many can't get over the fact that my wife, daughter and i left the "truth" is because we were considered "spiritual models" in the hall as well as circuit.
we knew everybody from cos and bethel heavies to "prominent" elders and families within the organization.
we were on many circuit parts and i had the "privilege" (

You and I must have been out of the same mold. I gave my first full public talk at 19, and was at the same time assistant school overseer taking the second school, and a stand-in book study conductor. This was just prior to the elder / ministerial servant came in, so I was appointed a MS as soon as it did, when I was just 20.
Elder for many years, assembly parts, served as an elder in a third world country for a time. A model in field service, kingdom hall construction worker, parts on the elders training school, etc. You name it I have done it.
I have been going down hill for the past couple of years after I realised just how many back-stabbers, "I'm only in it for me" people there are in the organisation, especially at the top.
Still, I had (still have in the eyes of many) an excellent reputation in the congregation. Brothers and sisters are totally "gob smacked" I simply stopped everything at the beginning of this year.

i asked my jw girlfriend some questions a while back that she was unable to answer so i gave her cites from wts literature to backup my assertions.
i could see a glimmer of confusion that maybe i had a point.
now she wants me to just have a nice little chat with her good pioneer friend (black lady, very nice in her mid 50's) to ask the questions so that someone more knowlegeable can take a shot at my queries.. so my question is how should i go about this informal little chat?
Robert,
I am not sure a showdown - my advice would be think about your relationship first and see how your g/f really feels about wanting to continue as a Witness possibly married to a "non-believer". The old Witnesses advice when talking about making new converts is "build new bridges before you tear old ones down".
As to getting married in a Kingdom Hall I can tell you the exact position on that will be a firm NO. There are strict rules about using a Kingdom Hall for marriages which basically dictate only baptised witness in "good standing" can use the Kingdom Hall for a marriage. The only exception to that would be in "exceptional" circumstances where one or both were at the point of baptism, waiting for the next assembly to come round but needed to get married before then. Here I am not talking about the bride being pregnant! The sort of thing they would have in mind would be one of the parties was terminally ill and might not live. I must say, however, in all my years I have never come across an "exceptional" case.

i was told the jw's were predicting a new date based on moses timeline as opposed to daniel and ezekial.
i don't get the magazines anymore so i don't have the feb. 1st watchtower that i was told the article was in.
does anyone know the name of this article so i can read it on the watchtower.org?
Don't get too excited by talk of a 2034 prediction.
It is true that an end period of 120 years during Noah's was mentioned in a recent Watchtower but there wasn't any implication that this would hold true for the "end". All they continue to say is the "end" must be very close.
All my family are still "in" and so I get all the feedback. As far as I am aware, the R&F have certainly not interpreted this as a possible new "deadline" date.

with elections coming up this year in the usa, i got to thinking about the messianic kingdom set up in 1914. this government, so we are lead to believe, has been in place almost 90 years now.
divide that by 4 or 5 years for a typical "worldly" government's term of office and that works out at approximately 20 terms in office!
now what would you think of a government who won 20 straight terms of office but never did a thing?

Divide that by 4 or 5 years for a typical "worldly" government's term of office and that works out at approximately 20 terms in office! Now what would you think of a government who won 20 straight terms of office but never did a thing? True, they have a great manifesto, equality, health, living conditions, but never deliver. And, it is not through lack of membership of this government; why there's nearly 144,000 of them! Besides, this government is infinitely bigger than any other government I know of. The number of elected representatives is miniscule compared to the size of this heavenly government, but still nothing gets done.
One of my biggest frustrations with the WTB&TS (earthly division of the heavenly parent) of late has been its lack of willness to do anything other than preach. This has been partly due to my own personal experience of living in a third world country were I saw at first hand poverty and its effect on health and well being. But it has become abundantly apparent to me that there is just no way that the Society wishes to get involved with any charity or relief work, for example, AIDS relief for the brothers and sisters in . But I guess this is just a reflection its heavenly governmental parent which has done nothing.
