    Listen DannyBear:

No one is silent here, at all. I commented on the "real" issue that TJ raised about Israel. I believe I commented before anyone that our leaders were superstitious. He responded with more detail and revealed additional information.

So, I do not understand your sudden "yeah, you go boyeeee" as if delay in posting is somehow silence or opinions cease when talking about Jews. Totally wrong!

NJDC (National Jewish Democratic Council) to Bush Administration: Nobody Knows Israel's Security Needs Better Than Israel -- 02/26/01

Washington, DC: Disagreeing with the security assessments of the government of Israel and the leadership of both of Israel's major parties, US Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday backed the Palestinian demand that Israel lift its security closure of the West Bank and Gaza Strip -- a closure originally imposed to stem the tide of terrorism and violence in the region. According to the Associated Press (2/25/01), Powell "backed the Palestinian position that Israel must lift the security closure of the West Bank and Gaza Strip that has been in effect since the fighting broke out in late September." Another Associated Press article today added, "The constraints, which include a ban on Palestinian workers going to their jobs in Israel and the withholding of tax revenues, do nothing to improve the security situation, Powell said after a two-hour meeting with Yasser Arafat at his headquarters."

"It is unclear if Secretary Powell's comments stem from his inexperience or the inexperience of the Bush Administration in dealing with this part of the Middle East, but the very hallmark of America's strong, bipartisan relationship with Israel is the understanding that only Israel can understand what her security needs are," said Ira N. Forman, Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, in response. "Telling Israel and the entire world that this measure or that measure does not enhance Israel's own security -- especially during a time of siege and spiraling violence -- sets a terrible precedent in US-Israel relations.

"Publicly telling the world that Israel doesn't know her own security needs is not a good first step by the Bush Administration towards enhancing US-Israel relations."

One wonders if Israel tired of trying to 'wise up' the inexperienced members of the Bush's unilateral Administration and sought to get their attention in another way. If so or if not, the Administration is paying attention now, along with the rest of the world.

The lists of Jews in high places should send signals to everyone.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds.

    Sts,

Quite an impressive list. All it represents to me, however, is a red herring away from the topic of the discussion at hand -- slave reparations -- and does nothing to answer the specific point that was made.

Isn't it strange when the common American becomes quiet as a church mouse when they are faced with their government's overwhelming and half-century long interest in and monetary support of the State of Israel that has done NOTHING to show their need for it; but scream to high heaven when a far less amount is asked by Americans who may (but probably not) deserve it way more than Israelis, a people whose ancestors actually DID SOMETHING.

    Restating:

One group wants money that was owed but never paid to their ancestors, and there's serious and outspoken disagreement.

Another group is regularly paid monies for having done nothing and not a whimper is heard.

    Why is that?

    peace,
    tj

I know i went off the topic.

As long as the israelis get theirs, they don't care where the rest goes. In fact if you check it out, i think you'll find that the US jews are for black reparations, the reason being, that they are able to do better in a pluralist society than in a monolithic one. The jews have sided with blacks for a long time now. The reason is because they would like to weaken the power of the dominant american culture. The israeli treatment of their own minority demonstrates that siding with the black sector isn't because of humanitarian feeling, but purely self interest. Jews believe that multiculturalism is for others, not themselves.

This subject could go on a separate thread, but i think it is too hot.

I know when I re-read those lists and think of the vast amounts of money pouring into Israel, I am outraged.

I would rather pour $2.00 a month into a fund providing scholarships for children in need, or to feed the homeless. Almost any other cause would nobly stand out against this type of government pork - no insult intended.

    StS,

I know i went off the topic... As long as the israelis get theirs, they don't care where the rest goes.

... yeah, you went off topic, but you still didn't answer my question about why folks get so loud on one hand and so pathetically silent on the other. You HAVE expressed some good thoughts here, though, although you had me worried with that first post.

I guess I'm still waiting for the Naeblis-drahcir-Six-funkyderek crowd to answer the question.

    peace,

Well.....ain't this cool - I'm coming in below TJ's butt.

Seriously, I have read the last 3 pages only because I was wondering where to post a trial experience that was decided upon today in Columbia, South Carolina. I also am terribly impressed that race & slavery can be discussed - I mean really discussed.

    The Trial:

My daughter works as a court assistant for an attorney locally. They are to be married next month, btw. They are white, the judge was white, approx. 10 of 12 jurors were white. Btw, South Carolina has a history of racism like a lot of other usa states. Their client was a black woman who's 22 year old son had died several years back after being operated on by a surgeon who was also a specialist (not sure but think he was a bone specialist) who was white.

Please bear with me as I don't know all the facts put forth in the week-long trial. The primary claim was put forth that several surgeons operated on the man after an accident. Bone damage, etc. Well, the surgeon being sued did his surgery, and walked away, assuming he was done. This was not a horrible accident, nor was the man near imminent death.

The young man somehow was bleeding in the lower buttocks and hip area into his muscle tissue, swelling from approx. waist to knees with blood. For some reason, the surgeon felt it wasn't his problem - so did nothing, and I mean zip. When doctors figured out what the hell was going on, the blood had saturated the muscles so long, it had destroyed the muscles along his whole backside and upper legs. Basically, they went back in and filleted him to his spine almost to his knees trying to save his life. Pictures were presented showing that the bones in his spine were visable after the last surgery, only skin covering bone.

After the subsequent surgery, he layed there for 9 days, maximum pain killers, and his mother testified all he could do was cry quietly until he died. He was survived by his mother and a 2 year old daughter.

The hospital & other surgeons settled out of court for a sum of $350,000 payable to the daughter in increments when she reaches legal age, and takes care of her during her younger years. The surgeon who refused to look at his own handiwork (because he knew there was nothing wrong with his handiwork) was brought to trial.

After a week long trial, the jury found him innocent. The judge indignantly set aside their decision - telling the mother's attorney that they could file for a new case if they choose. And told the surgeon that he'd be glad to meet him in the alley out back where he'd beat the hell out of him. (This is the South, remember).

The attorney for the mother is going to speak to as many jurors that he can to find out where he missed with them - the turning, or non-turning point on finding the surgeon innocent.

Imho, it was because the jury knew about the hospital & other surgeons settlement for the daughter. After all, she will be cared for.....and that seems a suitable amount for a young black man.

Sorry, but as soon as my son told me about the jury coming in today and the background - that's my gut reaction. Obviously, I could be wrong....but I don't think so - neither does the attorney.

So....I guess if they set a new trial, part of the plan will be to show that a young black man is worth more, especially when negligently left to die a horrible death in a hospital.

Didn't know where else to post this. Just kind of broke my heart.
