This rumor's been going round for years.
This is where the rubber meets the road. They will never surpress free speech. All one has to do is make it public on T.V.,radio talk shows and they will get mud in their faces.I must say their lawyers must be getting paid good because there must be law suits in the pipeline. Also it is good that all this info on the internet is giving the fds/gb hemorhoids.

Is there a smattering of cognitive dissonance present on this thread from the faders? ;-)
I'll say it again, the WTS don't need scriptural backing to do anything. They've been 'appointed as God's mouthpiece', so the R&F don't - for the most part - look for scriptural citations to back up what the GB decides to do. All they need is Jesus' rhetorical question in Matthew 24:45 to be waved in front of them and they'll shut their eyes and ears, turn off their brain and simply do what they're told. They will, after all, be acting in loyalty to the "faithful and discreet slave", AKA Jehovah.
Besty used the word anachronism, and while he's showing off his Edinburgh education, he's spot on. The WTS should have died out in the 1980s according to their own chronology and teachings. They've lived long past their 'best before' date. And it's only going to get more intense within the WTS the closer we get to 2014. They need to tighten up the control, they need to up the loyalty ante. And they need to do it now.
Time to get in the compound.

I wouldn't say so. It just seems unlikely they will start shunning inactive people that's all.
I did not read all the comments, but it seems if this is true we have a new regulation in WT world....They are trying to get rid all the innactives ones. In my days I recall an innactive was someone that did not filled the "field service card" for six months.
So with this new regulation the WT is putting more preasure to the innactive ones to start going to the filed service and attend meetings. Plus there are many "JW's" that I knew presonally, and from this board, that they are staying for family reasons in the Borg. So with this change there is more pressure to them to follow the line of the party.
I know personally from my own expierience that they no longer announce the word "disfellowshiped" when they cut off a member. The new word is "no longer a JW". With this new shift they avoide any legal actions against them by the person that is cut off from their congergation. So in very simple words: You wanna be part of our party? Then go and preach, come to the meetings and do like all the rest members do. Other wise you can no longer be a JW.
WT is turning more and more to cult
@ slimboyfat - how many JWs do you know who already shun inactive ones? Hasn't it already been stated on this thread and many others that JWs are already actively shunning those who don't attend the meetings? For the WTS to make this an official policy isn't really pushing the boat out. I'll say it again, the WTS know who the biggest threat to their kingdom are; faders. The whole lifestyle of one foot in/one foot* out sets a terrible example to the faithful JWs who never miss meetings...The WTS don't want you to have your cake and eat it as well.
*Those who don't go to the meetings and never do any 'service' but still like to socialise with family and friends.

LOL! I know plenty who "shun" others for all sorts of reasons. Within congregations there is probably more shunning going on between active Witnesses because of grudges or "being stumbled" or some other silly reason, than actual shunning of inactive people they rarely come in contact with anyway. It reminds me of a situation that I have found rather odd in my own congregation in fact. There is a group of about five sisters who are all very friendly and meet up with each other outside the meetings all the time. However one of those "sisters" is inactive and hasn't been to the meeting for years because she fell out with the elders - or something I don't know the story. But what I find ironic is that those of this group of sisters that do still go to the hall - and they are very active - are quite hostile to some of the other sisters they don't like. There are at least a few they simply don't speak to at all. So there's a contrarian example of Witnesses who associate with inactive Witnesses, but barely talk to certain active Witnesses in their congregation.
Sure there will be some Witnesses who will look down their nose at inactive people if they meet them on the street. It makes them feel all righteous. There will be other Witnesses who will try to be friendly and "encourage" them to go back to the meetings. That will make them feel good about themselves too.
I have no doubt that the Governing Body hate the idea of "faders". What I am saying is there is little they can do about it.
As someone else said above, this rumour about shunning inactive ones becoming official policy is nothing new. There have been countless threads predicting the change over the years. Nothing ever comes of it.
@slimboyfat - "I have no doubt that the Governing Body hate the idea of "faders". What I am saying is there is little they can do about it."
I sometimes find myself forgetting the power that the Governing Body has over the R&F. Let's not forget, however, that the Governing Body has millions of honest, decent people believing that it's acceptable to let a child die rather than take a blood transfusion and this is in the face of Jesus' own words regarding mercy, not sacrifice.
If the GB wants to act to snuff out any perceived threat from murmuring faders, then we can be assured that they will do what they need to do. Will all JWs follow any new direction from the GB re. inactive ones? Of course not. But the majority will.
If the GB wants a membership of committed, hard core, do-anything-for-the-cause JWs then they'll do what they need to do to winnow the chaff. And they don't need the Bible on their side to do it.
password: And they don't need the Bible on their side to do it.
sorry mate....but they do...they always need at least a tiny bit of it to at least twist, or spin, the way they want it.....and there is no piece to fit in with the idea of this original post.....they have to always want the poor lost sheep back.................oompa
@ oompah - ok, how about this. "These ones have shown by their lack of interest in the work of the Kingdom that they have left the teachings of Christ (2 John 9). By their own accord they have disassociated themselves from the Christian congregation of true believers."
Let's not forget that the WTS has a habit of pushing through policies that have little or not precedent in the Bible. A mild example of this was when they binned Bible study groups in private homes. A more extreme example is found in the 'Keep Yourself in God's Love' book where JWs are expected to be able to explain why the will accept some blood fractions. We know there's nothing in the Bible to support this 'Christian decision', but the GB rolled it out the JWs have to swallow it.
