Frankly I got more relief from fibromyalgia, a systemic condition, by using herbs, vitamins and alternative therapies than from going to my MD.

They offer drugs that work on the nerves like neurontin and Lyrica (Lyrica is the fancy updated version of neurontin and tramadol and has even worse side effects for some people, like migraines and constant vertigo...thanks doc, I don't have anymore pain now but I'm so dizzy I fall down every 5 minutes, great trade off!) and anti depressants because that class of drugs also is thought to rewire you neurologically, usually with improvement, but it can make some people even more depressed or anxious.

Anyway, I worked on improving my over all health with some diet changes, supplements, nothing scary, you know vitamins and minerals, and learned massage therapy, which is wonderful for fibro, and use acupuncture, some herbal therapy, homeopathy, and chiropractors.

I'm much improved and whether the condition just got sick of me or all the stuff I did actually worked, who knows? I feel better though, so whatever works.

Even if it was all placebo effect...whatever works. *G*

So, I quit taking it. Six months later Vioxx was pulled off the market for lethal side effects, including permanent heart valve problems. Yay for the fricking FDA.

Reminds me of my own experience. My former doctor put me on Atenolol, a beta blocker, for blood pressure. He prescribed it about 2 months after many Britons were taken off of it because of its potential serious side effects. Within 3 weeks of starting the pills I developed symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Granted, I was already at risk because of my weight and family history, but this could have been the thing that put me over the top. I'll never know for certain, but I no longer take any advice, even a doctor's, before doing my research first.

I might add, the Atenolol did nothing to control my blood pressure.

JWoods: "Oprah has given us Rachel Ray, Suze Orman, and Doctor Phil. Plus a number of books promoted that were not worth lighting your charcoal with...

Oh, Amen!! Amen to that, Brother!! Errrr, should that be, "Praise the Flying Spagetti Monster" to that, Brother???

Terry, I did follow Adelle Davis for a while... And I'm rather fond of Jethro Kloss and his book, "Back to Eden"... But I didn't buy into that whole "liquid protein" diet fad...

    But...

On the other side of the coin, Terry, you should check out "Dead Doctors Don't Lie"...

Turns out that the average American Medical Association doctor has a life span that is TEN YEARS SHORTER than that of the average American...

And the reason that Ralph Nader - and others - began to focus on the death rate from medical errors, which can be as high as 90,000 people PER YEAR??? [or possibly more...]

Because, back in the '70's, the doctors in LA County, in California, went on strike...

The officials were worried, and braced themselves for a drastic increase in the mortality rate...

Imagine their surprise when the death rate actually DROPPED during the strike...

That little situation led to a dramatic awakening amongst many watchdog groups... Modern medicine is frequently more dangerous than many of the conditions it attempts to treat...

Not to mention their frequent, inaccurate information... For example, medical doctors have been prescribing a bland diet for ulcer suffers, for decades. But veterinarians knew from working with farm animals that ulcers are primarily caused by bacterial infections, NOT 'stress'... So, for decades, people have suffered and even died from improper treatment of ulcers, when information from veterinarians - if LISTENED TO, BY THE EXTREMELY WELL-PAID DOCTORS - could have saved lives, instead.

Also for example... Farm animals get diabetes. Did you know that??? Well, how do you think the vets cure diabetes in animals?? They sure don't prescribe daily - twice-daily - expensive shots of insulin!!!

They prescribe a MINERAL SUPPLEMENT - which usually clears up the condition...

The over-arching problem with the AMA is that America has a medical INDUSTRY... In other words, there's more profit in healing 'sick' people - and very, veeerrry slowly, at that - than in keeping people healthy in the first place.

When I escaped the Tower in 83 before there was an internet that I knew of, Wayne Dyer wrote a book

    called "Your erroneous Zones"

I found that book very therapeutic. I still read it from time to time.

I wouldnt say I follow him.

He also had a program youll see it when you believe it, those principals worked for me to some extent.

So Terry, tell us about those times you've been wrong (aside from the obvious JW affiliation). Inquiring minds want to know.

Does personal experience count or do I need to check with my new authority whoever that may be and see if it is valid. For instance, I was taught a meditation by a Qigong teacher I am studying with. Shortly afterward I experienced a series of out-of-body experiences. It was impactful enough not only to freak me out but to realize that I am not my body but I have a body. This became very evident and clear, not to mention repetitive. I could do the meditation and then I would pop out of my body. I mentioned it to my teacher and in his broken chinese told me it's no big deal and told me how to ground myself so I wouldn't "go travelling" anymore. I realized his reality is much different than mine and there are things in this universe I don't understand.

What was strange to me was that I told nobody about it except my teacher and sort of had a shame around it like I didn't want anyone to find out. I realized it was because people are generally afraid of anything outside their box. I didn't want to be thought of as a weirdo. I think most people would rather be told what their reality is and not experience it directly. Just my opinion.

    This is Ruth's son Dirk...

    Terry,

My mom tells me you're an atheist.

Terry has said many times: I'M NOT AN ATHEIST.

I'm not an AGNOSTIC either. I simply cannot find any way for anybody to discover what "god" means outside of common agreement.

There is as much proof for Aliens and UFO's. Maybe more! The insurmountable problem is that even believers who use the very same

source authority (Bible + Prayer) are unable to agree! This indicates total disunity, error and improbability that those sources have fact content.

Bottom line for me is NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT whatever "god" is or might be. The subject is rife with speculation.

I'm god-neutral. Make of that what you will.
