Some thoughts on unions

Jeff, I think you answered your own question in that you agree good workers deserve to be treated well and paid well.

Sam Whiskey, apparently you're part of the problem. Why don't you take your sorry unpatriotic ass and move it out of the country too.

Seems like my use of the words "piece of the pie" struck some nerves. Forgive my faux pas. What I (me myself and I) mean when I use that term is exactly what Jeff said. A piece of the pie for workers would be for hard workers to be paid well and appreciated and for corporations to share their profits accordingly. But we have so many Sam Whiskeys in the USA who want 70% increase in profitability and don't want to recognize that they wouldn't have SHIT if everyone refused to work for them. Which brings me back to unions.

BlueSapphire said - "If they are making that much money then the workers should strike until they get their piece of the pie. The company can't function without the workers."

Really? You really think the company can't function without the workers? I've got a news bulletin for you - Apparently America is not the center of the universe like BlueSapphire thought it was. There are two billion Chinese workers ready to take your job for a fraction of your wages. Not only can companies function without the American workers, they don't even want want you, you're a liability because you're a whining ninny. If they really needed you, why are they sending jobs offshore faster than the U.S. can create new jobs? Believe me, there's plenty of business out there, it's just not staying in America. Because it doesn't have to....

Not only can American companies make a lot of money without you (they're sitting on more cash than ever before in the history of this nation), they can make even more money by intentionally NOT hiring YOU. Example: Average hourly wage in Columbia is $1.50 per hour.

"If they are making that much money then the workers should strike until they get their piece of the pie. The company can't function without the workers." - Ya, that seems to be working in Wiscaaaaansin. shortly, the Governor will be giving them their walking papers. Strike away Wiscaaaaansin Union members! Knock yourself out! Jack in the Box is waiting with open arms! They're in the process of trading their $25.00/Hr. jobs for $7.00/Hr. jobs - brilliant!

That's what pisses me off. That's our cash! We support these companies as consumers and they take it and offer less and less in return. It should be reciprocated, that's how a good economy works. If they take all these jobs over seas, who's going to have the money to support these companies?

Dana, do some reading about plutocracy and the new gilded age. Sam fancies himself one of them. What a joke.

Thanks for the suggestion, FHN. I will. I only know the definition of the word, but I can definitely see how it fits. There's a lot more to it, I'm sure. If Sam is any indication of how right-wingers are thinking right now, I seriously fear for my future and my daughters.

You will Dana, you have no other choices. You will be (are) supporting these companies because you have to buy the items on your grocery list every week, and guess where 99% of these items are made? Clue: Not in the U.S.

    • Car parts, not made in the U.S.
    • Washing machines and Clothes dryers, not made in the U.S.
    • Refridgerators, not made in the U.S.
    • 99% of the items purchased by Americans, not made in the U.S.

Start thinking about it and you will see....
