Atheists..... throwing the baby out with the bath water ?

Okay, I'm going to slow down and get both of your opinions on this scenario.

The Israelites followed the God of Abraham, and then later followed Moses, and other prophets. (or failed to follow) They didn't get everything right. They didn't understand everything. (maybe some didn't want to, some weren't capable, and some never had the chance becasue of the 'lying pen of the scribes' or the blind leading the blind) Some of them did the best they could with what they had. Some of them didn't care.

But they knew (as their prophets told them) that one day, someone was going to rise up from among them, and that One was going to shed light on everything. That ONE was going to be the Truth. That One is who they are supposed to listen to, when that one arrives.

So why in the world, when that One arrives, would anyone listen to what was imperfect over Him?

If for a thousand years you know a shadow of what is to come... and finally the Truth that you are waiting for actually comes... why would you keep looking at the shadow -which is not truth, but only a shadow of the truth - instead of looking at the Truth?

Can you guys answer me that question?

    Peace,

    tammy

How can I answer such a question? The only thing I have to draw on is what is written, and we have agreed that what is written is not dependable. SO basically, my guess is as good as yours. For that matter, the only way I would know to look for a shadow was because I had been read and told there was a shadow coming, and those that told me were unreliable.

    AK_Jeff's comment:

"I am often at a loss as to how these folks who swallow this thing called 'belief' without question, insulting atheists as if we had not done careful 'soul searching' before arriving at the conclusions we have. .....

    tec's reply:

"And yet, are you not doing the exact same thing here?
"folks who swallow this thing called belief without question"... tec - referring to atheism

AK_Jeff's comment presented the behavior pattern of "believers" who "insult atheists" as if they had not done careful "soul searching"....

Your comment implied the atheists as also being "believers" who accept the atheist "belief system" 'without question'...

So yes, you were referring to atheism as a "belief" accepted "without question"...

Can you get past the writing and the bible, and put yourself in that situation, NC?

You have partial knowledge for thousands of years (some mistakes/some truth), but you know that one day someone is going to come with full knowledge. When that person comes do you continue to listen to your sources partial knowledge, or the source with full knowledge?

I'm sorry I have read your post a few times but I don't understand the question.

You do know don't you that very very few paid any heed to Jesus according to the gospels and that the early church was a Jewish sect that lived by the OT Law and Prophets as per Jesus' instructions?

No Tec. First I need for you to answer the question. Where did this partial knowledge that I have come from? Where does your knowledge come from? I can only discuss this if I know where you are getting your info. I will pinpoint this discussion and break it down. First I need to know, where does your knowledge come from? We must discuss the source.

Tec, you have stated that I have made some wrong assumptions about you. Now I will assume nothing. I will ask. Where does your knowledge come from?

AK_Jeff's comment presented the behavior pattern of "believers" who "insult atheists" as if they had not done careful "soul searching"....

Yes, Ziddina, but in his comment he says 'folks who swallow this thing called belief without question"

""""Without question"""" implies that AK JEFF believes that they (believers) have not done careful soul searching.

THAT is what I commented on.

So no, I wasn't referring to atheism as a belief accepted without question.

You ought to stop telling me what I'm thinking and believing. You keep getting it wrong.

    Peace,

    Tammy

This is a simple question but one I hope someone will respond to without saying " delusion'.
I was a born in and prayed to Jehovah all my life. I felt at times I received answers to my prayers. I often felt a strong connection to God and even felt that silver cord that many talk about. I felt a powerful sense of peace and sense of direction many times. It helped me get through many hard times.

So what was happening if God does not exist ? Where did all that peace and sense of direction in my life come from?
