BY modern standards Jesus was a moral cretin.
"Modern" is relative. It implies a recency to our own current instant in the span of time. The same may well be said about your own moral standards, in the light of some future "modernity." You engage in a great deal of anachronism Cofty.

So does god change HIS standards depending on the era?
Clearly our standards evolve....what is modern today, may be seen as archaic tomorrow. Are gods morals also evolving with us?

So does god change HIS standards depending on the era?
I think our own ideas and perceptions change with time.
And with them, our own conception of God itself.
How we view ourselves, how we view the divine, and how we view ourselves in relationship to the divine is the stuff that shapes history.

SOON: I think our own ideas and perceptions change with time.
mP:
You just admitted that the story of Jesus and God is a fabrication and reflects the morals and thoughts of the men of his age. The knowledge, morals, customs and so on in the text show they were written by men within the limits of their view of the world. No external super daddy, just rich men making stuff for their own advantage.

No, I did not. That the words were written by people with limits does not, in and of itself, make the Jesus story a fabrication.

mP:
The fabrication i was referring too was labelling him as a super natural being with superior morals and general goodness. TO say he was NOT an ordinary common Jew that shared their general cultural beliefs is dishonest. I apologise if i t sounded like i was inferring that Jesus was a myth. Either way most of his story is a myth. We have TEC here making up extraordinary texts at length with nex t to no quotes most of the time. People havebeen adding new attributions to Jesus for the past 2000 yrs.

Was that addressed to me ? I was referring exclusively to the BIble, particularly the OT.

Well, I'd say that Isreal has claimed a lion's share of history, even if it wasn't the most powerful or wealthy nation at the time. The way they tell it, they were major players in league with Babylon and Egypt. Their victory was in writing it down. And preserving it.
