SIMON- You make some really good points. To me the bottom line is that MANY religions ( Muslims included ) use their religious believes as a convenient " whipping stick " to control, burden, and at times kill people in the population in order to promote their twisted agenda's. I think the Muslim's do it in a physically violent way and I think even , mainstream religions do it in an oppressive psychological way , even religions that aren't considered mainstream use religious views to dominate, control members to make sure the particular religion's agendas are accomplished and achieved. Religious fundamentalists especially.

It's one of the many things that has gone off the rails in our society not only in the U.S.A. but everywhere that " freedom of religion " comes to include overstepping boundaries that should be basic to each human being alive. And the huge problem with that is that with a big segment of the population-religion has become a " sacred cow " of sorts ( including Muslims ) in which people put us down or criticize anybody speaking out against any religions oppressive ways. Sadly , many people in society tend to give religions a " pass "on requiring them to be ethical, moral, or just. So mainstream society gets what they allow. Religious leaders who are corrupt, political leaders who are corrupt, and this acceptance of evil within these organizations leads to an apathy to do anything about it in a serious manner - causes people to accept as " normal " religions using violence, psychological abuse or any other method to promote their twisted agendas. Unfortunately much of western society is a society of too much complacency - in my opinion. Just a couple of thoughts, my two cents on a Saturday morning

Imagine 10% of white people believing black people should be killed?

Or 10% of democrats believing Republicans should be executed ...

Now tell me that the other 90% are really very moderate and I'll show you a deluded fool.

This is exactly the problem with calling all of Islam a disease.

if 10% of a population believes something, it tells you nothing at all about the other 90%. Simple as that.

Regardless of the estimated number of violent radical Muslims compared to "moderate Muslims" the hate and kill commands are still in the Koran. Very few "moderate Muslims" are speaking out to remove the hate and murder commands from their holy book, or speak positively about Western society and "infidels". If they do speak out against Islam, how can you really believe them when Islam has the theocratic warfare commands to lie to infidels in order to eventually defeat them? The Oklahoma Muslim was probably considered by some to be "moderate", until he decided to become a violent Muslim and behead the white grandmother.

'few moderate Muslims are speaking out to remove the hate and murder commands from their holy book'

This may not be possible. Clive James makes a good argument in the following link that muslims should concentrate on the peaceful, tolerant passages of the Quran and that Islamic reformation should start from there.

Doesn't the fact that precious little is being done in protest by their own people tell us something?

No, it tells you that if 10% openly admit to holding an extreme viewpoint that there must be many others who also beileve but are sensible enough not to say and that in general there has to be widespread tollerance if not support for the viewpoint within that community.

Let's not forget, we're supposedly talking about 10% of supposedly moderate muslims - those living in western countries like the UK and US. Not 10% of islamic militants or ISIS supporters - people who are supposedly already in the 'moderate' camp which doesn't seem to be so moderate when you sart to think about it dispassionately without the knee-jerk reactions that some people see the need for.

I agree flipper - Islam seems to be more politically intwined than any other religion.

All religions like to push for power and influence but Islam wants to take over utterly and completely and install itself as both religious and political authority over all. The regular church likes to influence politics somewhat and have peope on ethics panels etc... but that is nothing to how muslims try to take things over.

There are cases in the UK recently where muslims get into schools and secretly start policies where girls have to sit at the back of the class etc.. - small things initially but all part of an agenda to take control and impose their shameful standards on everyone else whether they support them or not.

It's why you can't give them an inch because it is always a one way street - everyone has to bend over backwards and change things to suit their sensitivities while they are the most intellerant of others and will abuse any system they can for the advancement is islam which the main aim of the religion.
