I hate to play the overused Hitler card but.......Silence on the part of the Catholic church was denounced by many even though Hitler was probably only a nominal Catholic and in no way did his behavior represent MOST Catholic's.

Actually the Catholic church did object to Hitler and Nazism and many priest were executed. Hitler may have had some catholic roots but was at war with the religion.

Simon, I stand corrected. I think you know the point I was making though.

Good points poopsiecakes: we were all conditioned to say things and claim we adamantly believed them even if we did not. Muslims are no different - the latest pamphlet is all about that and reads just like a WTS publication. Instead of being how to combat radical islam as it claims it's all about making sure that islam can't be criticised by trying to deflect or explain away things with lies.

No one really wants to go around with a cloth bag on their head so all the claims that they do are really a good indication of the level and extent of the indoctrination and how controlled these people are by the ideology.

It is all based on the idea that women are simply sexual objects / property and dirty with the responsibility for any immorality lying with them alone.

    Barbaric backward nonsense.

Oh, and they are the 'moderate' ones (can we have a new word yet? That isn't what moderate used to mean)

3rdgen: yes - they had agreements early in Hitlers reign which some cite as Catholics supporting the nazis but of course other countries did too and that was before they committed the attrocities that they did.

The Catholic church took a surprisingly brave stance against nazism. Certainly more than IBM did that's for sure !

Hatred for Jews & homosexuals and barbaric treatment of those opposed to their ideology.

Am I taking about Nazism or Islam?

    Simon,

I am shocked by your belief about all Muslims. Frankly, I don't many Mulsims intimately but I've worked and been treated by them. They were slaughtered on 9/11 too. Not all Christians are David Koresh or the Kool-Aid Jim Jones. There is polarization and I feel sad about it. After September 11th, I refused to take any taxis in Manhattan because I was so afraid I would strangle a Moslem driver. I even put up with blisters on my feet. My rage was so scary to me. I have a right to purchase groceries and take clothes to the dry cleaners. Younger people helped remind me of my earlier beliefs in peace. I was never so angry in my life.

If Al Qaeda or Isis come for me, I will fight. After many months, I had to take a taxi with a driver who appeared Moslem. Band goes to prison for murder ran through my mind. The driver was a lovely Moslem Egyptian. I did not murder him in a rage. Now I take taxis when needed and it is back to the antiSemitic comments as usual. Turning us into hating monsters is an effective weapon of terror.

I am not certain but I believe governments have no legal duty to "rescue" its citizens, altho they often do. The State Dept used to make it clear that it represents the US government only, not travelling students. I feel for the press. My heart beats faster with fear. I choose to resist as much as possible by consciously trying to remember that an enemy I did not choose if trying to fry my brain. Only I am human so I don't always succeed. Christians have terrorized, too. Atheist Europeans have been terrorists.

I never thought I would be so afraid and angry in my life.

Band, I don't think there is any argument here that there is an abundance of lovely Muslums both in the US and elsewhere. If you carefully read the posts I referred to on this page the point becomes clear. This is not about hate. It's about what influence radical beliefs and a radical Holy Book full of hate has on behavior. What obligation, if any, do the nice believers in Islam have to publicly show their opposition to Terrorism. And how much "community responsibility" is there?
