Good points cofty and Finkelstein.

Please watch the following video in it's entirety. In many ways it is very beautiful. The title is "Beautiful Recitation, People Crying - Must See - will surely shed your tears"
It is a recitation of Quran 41:19-36. It has over 3 million views on YouTube.
Around 4 to 5 minutes into the video the preacher begins to cry with the intensity and ecstasy of his message. You can hear and see others in the mosque also becoming emotional.
Read the captions and observe that it is the promise of eternal fire for those that reject Islam that triggers the outbreak of ecstatic worship. "But surely, we shall cause those who disbelieve to taste a severe torment..."
The quran is one of the most hate filled books in all of human history.
Did Christianity go through a repressive and violent time? Absolutely, and today it is not a violent faith.
The problem is that Islam's image and standing is regressing, not progressing; have famous Muslims stood up and condemned ISIS, or honor killings?
Do American muslims campaign for free speech, the ability to ridicule Islam as much as we now ridicule Christianity, Judaism and other ridiculous faiths?
The right to question and ridicule religions is a sacred thing in the US, but who dares to depict the prophet, to ridicule Islam openly?
A former muslim woman needs a bodyguard to protect her from crazy muslims who would kill her; what famous muslim is decrying this?
Yes, Christianity was violent; one of the problems is that Islam's violence is happening NOW, in the age of cel phones and 24 hr news cycles.
The world will not tolerate videos of beheadings to continue without answer; while we may not agree with the virulent attitudes about Islam seen on these posts, my fear is a wave of violence against mainstream muslims if the beheadings continue, whether all muslims are violent or not, or if we see another big terrorist hit in one of the western democracies.

Indeed. Nobody worries about Jainist suicide bombers.
At its peak, which was just after the end of WWI, the British Empire covered one third of the earth's land surface, and one quarter of its population.
Yeah, but a lot of that was Canada and it's mostly just miles and miles of empty nothingness :)
Australia is lots of empty space in the middle too.
Damn British picked the worst countries to take over.
'Have famous muslims stood up and condemned ISIS?' - when Alan Henning was threatened with beheading, some of his muslim friends and imams had a 'not in my name' protest and sent messages to ISIS asking for his release. Maajid Nawaz is an ex-extremist who's trying to act in a mature manner and make changes but voices like his a very few and far between. Mehdi Hasan has called ISIS 'scum' but I get the feeling he's annoyed with ISIS for interrupting his stealth jihad.
Until ISIS protests match protests against Israel in terms of passion, freqency and numbers I'll remain sceptical I'm afraid.
Simon,
I guess that is why 33% of the land surface equated with only 25% of the population!
Bill.
LoveUniHateExams,
If Islam were to undergo a reformation, as did Christianity, it would be brought about only by the moderate element within. My concern is that by turning into extremists ourselves in the fight against terrorism (as could so easily happen) the moderate element within Islam would itself then tend to get driven towards their extreme end. As Jeffro so correctly observed yesterday, that is exactly what the extremists want to happen.
After another series of anti-terrorism arrests yesterday in Melbourne, Australia, a very senior-ranking police officer stressed the need for everyone to remain calm. In this, he is quite correct.

Eh? Oz ain't so bad but we have Liz on the $20
Nothingness is somewhat underrated methinks. It's only a few hours drive away...
Why has Ebola spread through the Islamic parts of Africa like wildfire? - BucketshopBill
Wrong - I checked. Liberia is mostly Christian.
The more it spreads through Africa, the more it will spread abroad.
