Well, I saw a program a week or two ago that said it is inevitable that ebola will spread abroad, including the USA. They weren't kidding:

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but ebola was brought up and I commented on it spreading abroad. I guess there could already be a thread about this.

First US case of deadly Ebola virus confirmed in Dallas

    http://www.aol.com/article/2014/09/30/cdc-confirms-first-us-case-of-ebola-virus-dallas/20970117/?icid=maing-grid7%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D538429

    By RYAN GORMAN

Federal authorities have confirmed the first diagnosed case of the Ebola virus in the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control made the stunning announcement in a Tuesday afternoon press conference. Local station WFAA first reported the patient tested positive in Dallas.

The male patient recently traveled to Liberia, leaving the country on September 19 and arriving in the U.S. the following day, according to the CDC's Dr. Thomas Frieden. The person exhibited no symptoms until about five days later.

He sought care on the 26th, was admitted to a hospital on the 28th and tested positive on the 30th, Frieden explained, adding the man is "critically ill."

Officials declined to say if he was a volunteer working as part of the Ebola containment effort and also if he traveled on a commercial flight. They also repeatedly explained the virus is not airborne.

"Ebola can only be spread by sharing body fluids with an infected person," said Frieden. He later said the virus can be killed "by washing your hands [and] wearing gloves."

The patient has been placed into isolation in Texas and will be treated in the state.

"Virtually every hospital in this country that can do isolation can do isolation treatment for Ebola," said Frieden, adding that other non-Ebola instances of hemorrhagic fever were treated in the country in the past few years and "no person that treated the patients became ill."

A CDC team already on the ground in Texas will work to identify all individuals that have come into contact with the infected individual and monitor those people for the next 21 days, Frieden added.

It is not known exactly how many people could potentially have been exposed, but Frieden characterized the number of people as "a handful."

Frieden declined to say if the individual is an American citizen, but did disclose he is in the country to "visit family." He also would not provide the man's age.

Dallas County Health & Human Services director Zachary Thompson told WFAA that the city is more than able to contain and treat the isolated patient.

"This is not Africa," said Thompson. "We have a great infrastructure to deal with an outbreak."

More than 3,000 people have died during a recent outbreak of the deadly disease across West Africa, according to health officials.

Three Americans were transported to Atlanta for treatment after contracting Ebola, but this is the first known case outside of that region.

No previous cases are known to have been diagnosed outside of Africa.

"Ebola is a scary disease," said Frieden. "We're really hoping for the recovery of this individual."

"We're [also] stopping it in it's tracks in the United States."

The following are passages quoted directly from the most widely accepted English-translation Qaran, instructing Muslims to kill, oppress and annihilate anyone who does not believe as they do:

Bukhari:V4B52N260 -"The Prophet said, ‘If a Muslim discards his religion, kill him!’"

Sura ( 5:51) - "Believers, take not Jews and Christians for your friends."

Sura (8:12) - "I am with you; so support those who believed. I will strike terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved. You may strike them above the necks, and you may strike even every finger."

Sura (2:216) - Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.

Sura (3:151) - Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority.

Sura (9:5) Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the non-believers wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush.

Sura (2: 98) – "Allah is the enemy of the unbelievers."

Sura (2: 191-193) – "Kill them [unbelievers] wherever you find them….Fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah."

Sura (3: 19) – "Surely the true religion with Allah is Islam…and whoever disbelieves in the communications of Allah then surely Allah is quick in reckoning."

Sura (4: 104) – "Be not weak in pursuit of the enemy."

Sura (5: 51) – "O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whosoever among you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

Sura (8: 12) – "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them."

Sura (8: 15-17 ) – "O you who believe! When you meet those who disbelieve marching for war, turn not your backs to them. Whoever shall turn his back to them on that day – unless he turn aside for the sake of fighting or withdraws to a company – then he, indeed, becomes deserving of Allah’s wrath, and his abode is hell… So you did not slay them, but it was Allah who slew them…that He might confer upon the believers a good gift from Himself; surely Allah is Hearing, Knowing."

Sura (9: 29) – "Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth… until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection."

(Note: The "tax" referred to here is the "Dhimmi" tax which requires each non-Mohammedan to pay an exorbitant tax for the "privilege" of living relatively unmolested under Islam rule.)

Sura (9 :33 ) – "[Allah] it is who sent His Apostle with guidance and the religion of truth, that He might cause it to prevail over all religions, though polytheists may be averse."

Sura ( 8:60 ) - "Infidels (non-Muslims) should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them."

Bukhari [4:52:177]: Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him !"

Bukhari, V1B4N234: "The prophet advised them to drink the urine of the camels. Later on when they killed the prophet's shepherd, the prophet seized them, gouged out their eyes, cut their hands and legs, and left them thirsty in the desert to die."

Every practicing JW is a religious fanatic. A moderate JW would be a lapsed JW. Exactly the same applies to Muslims. Moderation is not an option.--cofty

Even if we convince ourselves that silent disagreement with a high control religion is possible, there is always the potential of being called out on he charge of apostasy. Whatever well-reasoned interpolations may have come to moderate writings that suggest expulsion and violence through the centuries, these are ignored when the politics of terror lean hard on religious leaders.

There is in both Christian writings and Islam's teachings the provision for the believer to be faithful to God rather than to Man. Yet, it is rare, very rare that anyone feels confident enough of their mind, motive and mission to stand against a religious leader gone wrong. Because why? because it is ever the case that the stone-throwing fanatics pay no mind to scriptures that require the man of God not to obey corrupt religious leaders.

See this debate on youtube from just a few years ago: Christopher Hitchens and Tariq Ramadan: Is Islam a Religion of Peace?

To be truly moderate is to be truly brave. This is a debate worth the watching.

To the contrary I would like to state that tootiredtocare quotes the declaration of independence with its freedom of religion etc... and how great it was. Yet he also says people should be deported for their religious beliefs.

Now you are just making things up. I never suggested deporting people for their religious beliefs.

@BungiBill - have you fully considered the nature of the islamist threat?

Suppose that reformation doesn't occur for another 2 or 3 centuries. Further suppose that, in the meantime, islamists get their hands on nuclear weapons or develop their own. Can you see how urgent the need for reform is?

There exist people who will quite happily slit your throat and you're concerned about me becoming an extremist? Get a grip!

I had a Muslim friend before 9/11 he suggested I go to the middle east to train people to fly aircraft. After 9/11 I was glad I didn't take his advice.

There are violent verses in the koran along with the more peacefull ones and this causes a contradiction in what should be applied by the faithfull. The koran has the answer to this problem and states to the effect that if there is a contradictory message the earlier verses are abrograted by the more recent. The problem here being the most violent verses are the latter verses in the koran.

What is sharia in time of war and how would it effect the rights of the non muslim population?

Under sharia the defeated side would be have to become muslim or be slaughted so buddists and other religions would have to convert to save their lives. The Jews and Christians have to pay the jizia tax which is a type of protection money or be killed. If Jews and Christians hold to their faith their churches are not allowed to be repaired and new structures are not to be built.

At the time of the islamic conquest all marrages are dissolved and women can be taken from the infidels as war booty. I remember seeing on the tv a group of middle eastern men demonstrating and saying they wanted war with denmark and wanted their women as war booty.

All non muslims should feel subdued in the new system according to koranic verses.

Does this sound something like Islamic state? Its all in the koran. .

Oh Reza does a smack down!

Interesting point: in the month we have been b*tching about ISIS, Saudi Arabia has beheaded 19 people, but we don't give a sh*t because they protect our national interests. The only thing I would have added is that Saudi Arabia is most certainly a "fanatical" Islamic country, ruled by the Wahabi sect. We turn a blind eye because we want the oil and bases. ; )

    http://www.salon.com/2014/09/30/reza_aslan_takes_down_bill_mahers_facile_arguments_on_islam_in_just_5_minutes/

Comedian Bill Maher recently made some comments about Islamic countries that characterized them as more prone to violence, misogyny and bigotry, and now religious scholar Reza Aslan has called Maher out on his own “bigotry.” Aslan, who became famous when he skewered Fox News, appeared on CNN to pick apart Maher’s “not very sophisticated” and “facile arguments” that characterize Muslim nations as all the same. As is evident from the CNN bit, these arguments are not unique to Maher, making Aslan’s nuanced argument an essential one to keep in mind as we increase military action in the Middle East.

Here’s Aslan’s point: “To say Muslim countries, as though Pakistan and Turkey are the same… it’s frankly, and I use this word seriously, stupid!”

“The problem is that you’re talking about a religion of one and a half billion people,” he explained, “and certainly it becomes very easy to just simply paint them all with a single brush by saying, ‘Well in Saudi Arabia [women] can’t drive,’ and saying that’s representative of Islam. That’s representative of Saudi Arabia.”

Saudi Arabia’s laws are “extremist,” he noted, not just to Westerners, but even within the “the rights and responsibilities of Muslim women around the world.”

He also pointed out the U.S.’s own hypocrisy in calling out ISIS for its brutality while partnering with Saudi Arabia: “Look, Saudi Arabia is one of the most, if not the most, extremist countries in the world. In the month that we’ve been talking about ISIS and their terrible actions in Iraq and Syria, Saudi Arabia, our closest ally, has beheaded 19 people.”

Despite his nuanced argument, CNN anchor Don Lemon persisted with his overly simplistic questioning: “Does Islam promote violence?” See also Simon at Jehovah's Witnesses.net. ; )
